AAAaaaggghhh....! YYYYyyyaaawwn ! Thank you , pretty lady, I needed to hear those notes, just that way...! Peace, Prayers, and Grace your way...!
I don't have words to express my love and appeciation of this rendition of Never My Love. Thanks Marilyn. I've loved it most every week or more - for years.
You are selling African creativity & DIVERSITY way short!
Since there are more white people in America, if the 5th Dimension 'sounded too white', then they should have gotten their so-called 'just due' from the whites, yes?
Truth of the matter is; African Americans haven't been the power-that-be in America; and so they NEVER EVER get the kind of promotion that fits their talent level
There is nothing about 5th D musicality that is 'white'
@nirbija I c ouldn't have said it better. I'm tired of people selling this gorup and others short and painting them and music in general into some kind of box. Also, MAYBE if they'd LISTENED THE THEIR COMPLETE ALBUMS, they wouldn't say such things.
And also, we don't say these things about Whitney, Mariah, or even Minnie...who all made music that could NOT be put into ONE tyoe of category.
@nirbija Also, had ppl not been trippin back in the day and bought the music because it was just GOOD music...with MANY RELEVANT lyrics...INSTEAD OF JUST GOING BY A SOUND...then again...the 5th Dimension would have been even BIGGER than they were.
Funny how ppl talk about Marilyn's voice sounding TOO white...but Whitney and Mariah basically copied her style.
@MsTexas73 "Going by a sound" is natural & normal; and 'good music' is, to a great extent, related to era & culture. It is an 'acquired taste'
The problem with believing that African American music could be 'too white' stems from a lack of knowledge of the range, versatility & diversity of African cultures & musical traditions, & also from the impact of whites co-opting or outright stealing African culture
America's pop music is mainly driven by African American input, which is very diverse
Marilyn McCoo, what can you say about a gorgeous woman with a voice like an angel. Other than that she was one of GODS vocal and visual gifts to the world!!
No other black woman ever had tthe total package of Marilyn's beauty and vocal talent.
This is probably THE perfect song. The note Ms McCoo hits at the end is unbelieveable. I have it on tape, recorded from a .45 single, but it skips, much to my chagrin. This is a different version thatn the one on their album, darn it. Ms McCoo still looks great, and sounds wonderful.
She is still doing concerts with her husband
