I like your review and I totally agreed with you about how the ending should have left out the epilogue when I first read it. But after re-reading it that I changed my mind and better understood what the author wanted out of the ending and I know that she does not like to kill her favorite characters as shown in her ending in her other series.
the book was incredible.......the only thing is that I never realized that the book was intended for adults because I found it in the young adult section of the bookstore. To me, I could see it being a novel for all ages!
@booksyn I agree. There isn't anything going on that is too complicated to pull the book out of YA, but it has enough in it to keep adults entertained. Thanks for checking out the vid.
@JohnToe16 - If you like The Host, you might want to check out Brave New World by Aldous Huxley or the short story, Harrison Bergeron, by Kurt Vonnegut. Although the styles are very different, they all deal with a dystopian society.
Hey, Uncle Lewie!!! You know what a HUGE Twilight Saga fan I am!!! I have to agree. Stephanie Meyer's writing seems to take everybody into her world of fantasy, with books impossible to put down. Her writing is so poetic, beautiful, and she is just an amazing author. So are you!!! Love you,
I thought the first couple of chapters are hard but it get's so good after that and I JUST LOVE IT. I'm not a fan of SciFi but after this it makes me want to read and watch others. I can't wait for the next book !
I watch book reviews all the time...I know you wrote down your review on what to say (we can tell by your eyes) which was smart...but i must say that this was a well intellegent review that I have seen on youtube...not that im interested in reading the book...aliens dont fancy me that much (who knows i may read it later)...but thought that your review was well put together
I don't like sci-fi books. But the Host was my one exception. It's not focused on the 'alien invasion'. More on the relationships and internal struggles. i really enjoyed it. Stephanie Meyer is hecka good at pulling you into her stories!
Very nice review. I love Stephenie Meyer's work, but even I was a tad surprised at how immersed I became in the world she created in "The Host". I usually can't stand science fiction, but I couldn't put this book down. Even my older brother, who is usually rather negative about everything, enjoyed it. Although we both agree with you in the fact that it would have been a more impacting story had the epilogue not existed, or been different. Nice review, and I'm glad you liked the book!
I love The Host, i just coundn't keep it down, i had to finish it. What I like more is that everything I wanted to happen happened. Very intriguing, and full of emotions.
I think The Host is Stephenie Meyer's best novel yet, and can't wait for the next ones, if there are.
did you really read the book, or did someone read it and tell you about it? Because you are obviously reading cue cards or something (i can see your eyes moving) and dont seem very interested in what you are talking about.
Yes, I am reading off cue cards. I don't have the time to memorize two minutes and forty-five seconds of a review and then complete enough takes for it to go smoothly. But, good or bad, I assure you that I did read every page of the book and every word of the review is my own.
I don't think you understand what I was saying. All that statement implies is that the story is not exactly sci-fi and it's not exactly literary. It has some elements of both genres. Hardcore sci-fi fans may be disappointed, because there's not enough sci-fi in it, as would literary fans due to it not being entirely literary.
Sci-fi can easily be great literature (and often is); the statement was not an insult to any genre. It simply mentioned elements found in The Host.
I agree with you, the ending would have been much stronger if it ended without the epilogue. But then again, it was a clever set up for the sequel. Great review for a great novel. Kudos.
am still in tears after i just finished The Host! its so amazing! I am a humoginormous Twilight Saga nerd, but that book is Way up there with Twilight! I mean i Cried so much when Wanderer was giving up her soul for Melanie, and then i cried again when she came back, and melanie did to. I did so much CRYING! it was insane lol. But that book is PHENOMINAL! all you twilighters who hevent READ it go read it now!!! its so amazing. I might just read it again. its so good! aahh!
Nice review. I read The Host and loved it. I began reading with the expectation that it would not be as good as the Twilight books, but I was happy and surprised to find that my first instinct was wrong. I should have realized that it would be an enjoyable read the minute I saw Orson Scott Card's (one of my fav authors) praise for the book on the back cover. I hope there is a sequel!
If it is anything like the Twilight saga... then it's a steaming pile of manure.

"With a story that borders between sci fi and literary"
Its statements like the above that indicate that the "critic" has no clue as to what h/sh/it is taking about.
