  • Paul is German, so he's not singing it as a native English speaker would. But, musically, his piano work is among the best and he's backed by a first class rhythm section and fantastic tenor player.

  • it doesnt matter that his singing is best. His jazz piano is marvelous and does this song great tribute. nice jazz version.

  • I don't like this version at all... this singer can't sing at all.. I prefer nat king cole's version.

  • @gromitmcgorcdnbmzsty put your version on youtube and let us compare

  • den habi ch^^ <3 und das bild als facebook profielbild^^

  • nelson riddle's version takes the prize

  • @Baileygeep7 - Nelson Riddle didn't do a version of Bobby Troup's "Route 66"...

  • @johnbresnik Right it was riddles own original melody thats why they put his plaque on the wall in the songwriters hall of fame

  • @spacepatrolman - I was a professional musician for nine years - played jazz in a lot of bands in LA and Germany. I've never heard a band cover Riddle's version -- but, every band under the sun has Troup's original version on their playlist. I can see that you're a Riddle fan, but Troup's version has been the most popular, by far. Just curious -- is the "spacepatrolman" a reference to the Space Patrol TV series in the 50s? That was my absolute favorite program as a kid.

  • @johnbresnik yes i like those 50s shows like space patrol and rocky jones captain video made an appearance at a shopping mall when i was there nelson riddle went to high school in the next town i have the sheet music to the untouchables and the album i talked to a musician was it in here or myspace who worked with riddle and went out to dinner with him

  • @spacepatrolman there was an article in the paper nelson riddles daughter put out a cd by him cross country suite they werent sure if they were going to sell enough copys to break even but they did it just for the love of doing it

  • Danke für die Info. Suche verzweifelt eine CD...

  • great band -- tenor guy is cool; piano man must be some big name based on what I'm hearing and the length of his solo; first class drummer and bass player is fantastic. The vocalist does not sound familiar at all -- no idea who he is. I'll check out the Paul Kuhn sound...

  • It's Paul Kuhn, for sure!!!

  • @KeithCMajor - yes -- it's Paul Kuhn. Now... how to find that recording? I found a trio version of Route 66 here on youtube, but it's not as impressive as this big band version

  • @KeithCMajor - thanks Keith - don't know how you figured that out, but I appreciate it. Have been trying to find out the name of this band for a long time...

  • @johnbresnik - so - I am the bassman and my brother is the drummer! ;)

  • @KeithCMajor - fantastic... thank goodness for youtube. How can I get a copy of that album? That's one of the best I've heard and I've heard many. I played piano in a big band in Augsburg for two years (Army band). We used to do Glenn Miller charts at the beer tents -- they loved our music and we loved being there. I hope to get back to Germany one of these days.

  • @johnbresnik I don't really know where you can get a coppy of the album, but:

Search at amazon for "The best of Paul Kuhn" or "The Paul Kuhn Trio"... This version is "live" and it's the Paul Kuhn Trio...normally german Amazon should send you CDs to whereever you are! :) And Paul is one of the best german pianist even though he sings english as most Germans do...thay hate the "th"! ;)

  • @johnbresnik You can find the album at Ebay too!!! Paul Kuhn Trio - My world of music

  • @KeithCMajor - thank you Keith -- I'll get a hold of it somehow. What are you and your brother doing these days? You guys are amazingly good -- would like to follow your artistic path. By the way, who is that on tenor? Also, are you playing an acoustic bass on that recording ... sounds like it to me, but some of those electrics produce a sound very close to acoustic. Wiedersehen...

  • @KeithCMajor - just realized that it's not a "big band" version -- it's a quartet : piano, bass, drums and tenor sax. I listened to some of the samples of "The Paul Kuhn Trio" on Amazon, but didn't hear the sax -- this sax guy makes this recording "work" (vs. the trio on its own). I'm looking on eBay, but they don't list all the songs -- just the album. I'll find it eventually.

  • Too cool.

  • Yes that is the best Route 66

  • Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass es Paul Kuhn ist. Deutscher Bandleader und Jazzpianist.

I think, it´s the german Bandleader and jazz piano player Paul Kuhn.

  • @chicagoblues61

    ...no, that isn`t Paul Kuhn...

  • @chicagoblues61 - you are right... that is the great Paul Kuhn and his big band. Ich danke Ihnen...

  • Nat King Cole... of course!!!

  • Mel Torme's signature song

  • 2 people use the Interstate

  • This a great version, instrumentation and vocal. I would like to know who it is.

  • nat king cole had a talented youger brother it could be his rendition, not sure but anyone any ideas on this?

  • not nat or tony.

    sweet though..

  • tony bennet???

  • Who is this? Somebody must know!

Yes, it's good: all of 'em.

    Studio sound, but live.

    JS

  • For the Nat King Cole version see the video ''NAT KING COLE ROUTE 66" here on YouTube.

  • Vocals by Nat "King" Cole I do believe.

  • @deacontad No, that's not Nat King Cole.

  • chuck berry has a good version

  • @jakelvis100 ->the best

  • real good

  • sounds like Ben Webster on tenor (at least it's his style).

  • this is a great band - excellent piano player; nice tenor work. Excellent acoustic (or maybe upright electric) bass solo and backup and great drum work. Singer is not a native English speaker (sounds Filipino to me), but does a nice job. First class stuff.

  • No not Bobby T.

  • @someoneme9

Bobby Troupe was married to Julie London but I don't think this is her version either.

All fun aside, some good stuff here.

Especially the sax...those first two notes punch in like the horn on a big fat Buick...what a great sound!

  • Peter: I think this artist may be Bobby Troupe, the guy who wrote the song in 1946! John Mayer sings it for the Disney Cars movie, that is pretty good also.
