The shooting of Rep Giffords is more evidence of the importance of Mental Health in America. And that we need to take it more seriously, fund it adequately and make sure the people that need it get the help.
I have suffered abuse in hospitals. Abuse that has left me with some PTSD. i've been sick since i was 7 and records since the age of 10. They never looked them up. when i went to get stiches my mother was told "lucky you, some kids are piano geniuses the only thing your daughter can do is cut herself" i have an honors bachelor of science from the top school in the country and was admitted early to a masters and potentialy medical school and received 2 scholarships while working full time.
@Elewyn A&E staff didn't believe I'd taken a meds overdose as I showed no physical symptoms. I was sent home without the duty psychiatrist consultation I'd asked for and took a second overdose. This time the ambulance took me straight to a psych ward where staff bullied me. I've had PTSD since coming home. Before my previous hospital stay a Crisis Team nurse blamed my problems solely on alcohol without either reading my notes or talking to my regular psych support.
wow, i thought i was the only one bullied by hospital staff and left with minor PTSD. i can't believe this many nurses/doctors are getting away with what they are doing.
@Ppiggy12 It happens a LOT. Even my psychiatrist has acknowledged that a lot of things go on that aren't reported and that this is a common occurence. I couldn't believe A&E staff's nasty treatment of me. The paramedic who spoke to me didn't take my used medication packs with him, which he should have. I wasn't given an ECG, which is common practice with an overdose of quetiapine (Seroquel). I was just sent home. More people should report this kind of ill treatment.
That doctor should be fired for stitching her up without numbing her. Their first oath is do no harm.

The abuse by hospital doctors and nurses against the severely depressed is criminal and should be observed, addressed and changed IMMEDIATELY.
