  • Throughout the rest of Beethoven's life the knocking haunted him. Everywhere he went he heard the same four knocks. On his death bed, Beethoven smiled and said, "The knocking has stopped." He passed away a few moments later, enjoying the silence in his last few seconds of life

The four beats in this piece r what Beethoven though was death itself, knocking on his cabin door. The joyful soundin area was when Beethoven had thought he escaped death although you can still hear it in the background

  • he should have made more than 9

  • no it is joyful joyful we adore

  • I have to say it sounds like a better version of my kids fighting. A much better version. Think I will hear this instead of the screaming from here on out.

  • hes climbing in your windows

  • 0:03 zomg!! An umpa loompa!!

  • May 7th 1824 Beethoven's 9th (Chorale) Symphony, premieres in Vienna Happy birthday to the 9th!

  • It is music like this that makes me glad to be a human being.

  • It´s sad that no one comments in this part movment 1. It´s so magical and beautifull. All is work is SUPER.

  • @nettanangel8

I agree it is super but seems Beethoven himself spat the dummy on this also with his words "oh no my friends, not these tunes", and although he had just identified movements 1 to 3 of the 9th, he was surely including the other 8 symphonies.

I marvel at Leonard Coen in Hallelujah

    "The fourth, the fifth

The minor fall, the major lift

    The baffled king

    Composing Hallelujah"

  • @wongadonga

I have all the symphonies on my mp3 player, they are not identified in titles.

1 TO 9th and some sonatas.

Love his work, and for sure i listen the other symphonies not only the 9th. He said that? He was refering to the whole 9th symphony?

  • @wongadonga

The line 'oh friends, not these tones' was designed specifically to introduce the poem itself that the whole symphony was based on. It is not a reference to earlier works, and certainly not an expression of dissatisfaction with them. It simply facilitates the move into the choral part of this particular symphony.

  • @wongadonga

    Bravo! The observations of genius.
