I think this song is for her husband. She took 5 years off to be with him. When she says "swimming home" I think she's saying she's going back home to Evanescence and she adores her husband still, but she hears them calling (she hears the fans calling). "I cannot betray my kind"(the fans, or the band) "It's my time"(it's her time to shine) ...Not sure, but that's how I interpreted the song..what ya think?!

I always thought it was about someone dying. Amy confirmed that it was about death, the person who is dying is the one singing. 'I can hear them calling' refers to the dead calling the person.

I love this song very much.

Wow! Thank you so much for posting this. It's one of my favourite songs off the new album only second to My Heart is Broken.

And guys and gals, she doesn't have to sing everything perfectly. She's a human being and sometimes she messes up the notes, it's all part of singing live. Show me one artist who sings live and never messed up a note and I guarantee you they lip-synch. Amy sang this song very well, though there were a few problems. In my book that's not a problem at all.

@ty0kroitoru1 even if since the 1st time I heard the song I thought it was 'bout Bonnie for lot of reasons, this thing constrasts with the fact that she never sings live songs 'bout her little sister... so I think that Swimming Home is about the death in general...

For example "Even In Death" is a song which talks about a random death, not a real event- you could see that she is not get emotional while singing it. but this song.... ive never heard Amy like that. she has a special feeling for this song. That's what i feel, that's what I hear. it's amazing to see that even in 2012 there are real artists :)

@kwtf564 The theory is that perhaps Amy has gotten past her sister's death to the point where she is comfortable performing these songs live. She is, afterall, married to a therapist who perhaps helped her to overcome the trauma of that loss. She's never spoken about whether any of the songs on this album are about her sister or not. She did, however, state that it is about the acceptance of death, which perhaps reflects a new perspective regarding the loss of her sister.
