Contra 4 - 99 life glitch using Konami code

I've encountered the 99 life glitch but it happend purely by accident on 4th stage if i recall.

Didn't try to use the konami code even, i just died regularily and suddenly had 99 lifes.

Does this work for Normal Mode and Hard? Meaning I know it works in both, but how many shots from the pea shooter does it take in Hard Mode? The same 49, then use the code after you've fired?

@Rebirth5450 Nevermind it does work in hard mode, I just thought I accidentally hit the eye with a laser shot and counted that as one and it didn't even count as one, the pea shooter is stronger against the first level boss. I got it to work in hard mode.

Hello, I only have one question about this, why do we want to die and lose a continue in the middle of the level? Can't the code be done the same even if you didn't lose the continue? I'm gonna test it really quick and let you know.

haha this code works. But i must add few things. there is no need to do any extra step. Basically, enter the Konami code in the pause menu to either upgrade your weapons fully or kill your character. It can only be used in Normal or Hard mode (easy gives you full upgrades automatically) :) enjoy

This game is impossible to do on normal/hard mode till you keep memorizing the whole thingy perfectly from start to finish and I just want to have fun playing this game, not total frustation !

That's being said, that's easily the best 2D AND action game on any handheld BAR None !

The glitch is caused by gaining an extra life at the same time as losing your last life. The code is irrelevant.

Great video but I needed to also say there's a gamefaqs guide called: Hard Mode Faq where it describes how you can do it with a tenth fire shot which is much easier to count.

Sounds like 10 fire shots to kill the boss only applies with the upgraded fire. Someone else says it's 25 shots with the regular fire to kill the boss.

you can also find a place where enemies keep coming out and you cant be hit, then just tape down the y button and let it sit awhile, youll have 99 guys.

i tried it the first scene of the enemy and it didnt work than i tried second scene climbing the chopper ank killing the second weird red eye and then going down and killing the first eye the same way counting 49 and then pausing and entering the konami code wich is up,up,down,down,left,rigth,lef­t,rigth,a,b,start. Notice that you have to enter the konami code before geting with the boss because the first time it wont kill you and the second time it does, dont forget to be at 0 life. it works.

U can enter the code as soon as you start so that you don't forget. If you do it while still hanging from the helicopter it wont make a confirmation noise. It has to be entered while paused also. Message me back if you need more help. This glitch is really easy to mess up.

Yeah that's much easier....I only ever did the glitch once just to memorize Hard Mode the first time.

I used the old method of shooting the middle boss with the flame thrower 25 times and on the 25th shot I would do exactly what you did. It was a lot more tedious though.

Your way is way easier. I usually beat the game on Hard Mode using about 3 continues now. It's definitely the hardest Contra game in the series by far.

You don't have to pause or enter the Konami Code; all you have to do is die at the same time you get an extra life, and the glitch will give you 99 lives.

The boss showed is the easiest time to do it because you always get an extra life when you defeat it.

Um, when I try the Konami code, I press start. So the game pauses. Then I press Up up, down down, witch brings the selector to "Continue". Then I do Left right, left right. It works! Thanks. I'll be clear as I can to those who are having trouble. Reach to the mini-boss, die until losing a continue. Restart as you're in the middle of the stage. Pause the game & do the Konami code. Reach to the stage boss (switch to pea shooter) taking out the sniper on top first. Shoot the red sensor 49 times. Then press shoot and start simultaneously (standing in front of the red sensor) doing the Konami code. And there you have it, hoping I made it clear.

If you use the Konami code more than once per level (or per continue, if you're stuck on one level) it kills you.

The very last time he got hit (when he had 0 lives remaining), it's due to the konami code being used the second time, which kills the player.

It's because the code is supposed to upgrade your weapons, but in Easy, your weapons are already maxed out, so you can't do the code.

k, I'm on normal, I got through the whole stage w/out dying, used the konami code to upgrade weapons, and I killed the miniboss (and it gave me a 1-up in the process). I get to this base at the end, and do EXACTLY the same thing as in the video...everytime I do it, I get NO extra lives, not even a regular 1 UP...what gives?
