  • IEcho™ Express PCIe 2.0 Expansion Chassis with Thunderbolt™ Ports

  • The future is here... YES Thank you Intel and Apple!

  • the computer producers want your money, so they are not making any ex video card for you

  • i want external power but i aint payin 300 dollars on a vidoc station

  • WOW...THIS VID IS OLD AS SHIT!!! ViDock is external gpu

  • @wrathallll I know right, Chris talks in to the future.

  • dude u are nerd xD

  • On google I keep finding adapters instead of actual video cards... how did the person you mentioned in this video do it? Is it compatible with any computer as long as that computer has the memory/processor to handle it?

On HP's website specs for my comp it says:

"Must select one of the following options: GeForce 9300 GE (256 MB) GeForce 9500 GS GeForce 9600 GS GeForce 9800 GT (1 GB) "

Does that literally mean I can only use one of those on the list or would any PCI work?

  • @toReasonWhy

Oh, you know what, I just realized what they mean by "must select," they mean when purchasing the computer originally you have those choices. Der. So any PCI or PCI-express should work.

  • for an external graphics card do you need a monitor

  • if i got 100 thumbs up, i will do the most compact usb external graphic cards ever

  • NVdia Ion is an external Graphic Card for NetBooks (i'm still doing research on this),

I seriously need some kind of external GPU for my Acer Aspire One.

  • @LegionIscariot me too

If you find anything good don't suppose you could notify me :D

  • viDock ftw!!

  • I have a samsung r530 and it struggles to play minecraft is there any thing i can do to improve it.

  • i use an external sound card coming from a sound producer background, i just assumed these things were in high use in the graphic side of things, but apparently not

  • god that guy is boring :0

  • I know that this is an old video but at 1:12 what was the name of the product that he used?

  • i want an external for my laptop but all of them seem cheap so i think they arent to good. i want one with good FPS while play First Person Shooters. Any suggestions? (no price limits)

  • 2:06, chat-box: "I want a GPU for my cellphone" LOL

  • I need to now what "over current USB detected" means thanks and I want to now if a USB to dvi gpu if good

  • there are vidock, then there are diy vidock. google both and there are the ideas. currently the diy vidock community is researching sandy bridge cpu laptops because they're pushing for usb 3.0 or pci-e expresscard slot 2.0 which would break the bottle neck that most successful vidock users are experiencing. in other words, can't wait to tap the 4x 8x or 16x from video card using those setups.

  • iv got an hp g56 laptop 4gb ddr2 ram so its pretty good but its got a crap video card (intel chipset) and im thinkin of getting a gaming pc or this. which would be better?

  • So is there an external drive released yet AND does it work with macs??

  • @MrComputeranswers yes the vidock

  • @narushigo where would i be able to find that?i hav a 256mb graphics card right now and i want to get an external one with 1gb. is this possible?

  • @ComedyAllianz vidock

  • It wont fry the motherboard. If its using an external power, PCs or Laptops could use lower PSUs. Air from outside is cooler. Good air flow. Could be transferred to other PCs and Laptop easily.

  • By the way, this does not stand for GPUs only. This may be use for sound cards. Its a PCIxx!

  • u know less then me...

  • Always thought - outdoor cooling - through the wall - was the best option

For noise reduction (zero noise) + efficiency (outside is often already cooler - so no energy is needed + relatively unlimited area to work with)

Plumbers should get together and invent one - copper tubes, radiators, etc. - would create a lot of work for plumbers

  • hey everyone i would really appriciate a responce to this i need help im new to computers as you would probably guess, im not looking to play pc games i just want my computer to run faster, my downloads to run faster and i use sony vegas 10 and blender alot and the rendering time is riddiculous on my standard laptop, if i want a faster laptop should i buy a external video card? or is my solution elsewhere? all responses would be greatly appreciated

  • @superflycos123 System specs? PM me and I could be of some assistance.

  • for all those who have white macbooks and think they can't use external graphics cards for them... here's some really good news that'll make you happy, you can now buy an external express slot card that you can hook up to on your macbook with a USB. Thus, you can connect the Vidock to your external express card.

  • @Freedomfoe07 um no....theres a reason you use express cards for this. usb 2.0 is slower, and if you happen to have 3.0 then youre an asshole and dont need external graphics anyways. the standard usb 2.0 interface is too slow so the frame rates would drop down to 8~9 fps.

  • @emosp0ngebob so you're saying that if I plug in the express card into the external express slot/USB it wont work???

  • @Freedomfoe07 ill put it this way. PCI-E (graphics card) is 2Gb/S. USB 2.0 is 480Mb/s. thats a quater of the potential. and when you consider that you will almost NEVER get the full potential of USB, youre down to a useless 8 frames per second. so if you can play on 8 frames per second, go for it. otherwise, no. not possible. especially when your average game needs about 20-60 frames per second.

  • @emosp0ngebob so if it was a 3.0 it would be good

  • @Freedomfoe07 if you had USB 3.0, you wouldnt need an external graphics card. and thats only theoretical speeds. you would be hard pressed to get a USB 3.0 with full potential. so no, USB everything doesnt work. you can try, but dont go wasting your money.

  • @emosp0ngebob What about the new Thunderbolt technology when it becomes more integrated?

  • So is there any external gpu?

  • @OHMzTV yes. vidock, or get a pe4h adapter

  • That's my question as well, it appears that your laptop would run it judging by your specs. It seems that the main problem is having the video card that would do it. If the ViDock4 can run a video card that uses Shader 3.0 technology, then I believe it will.

  • Will my laptop be able to run arma

    Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHZ

    Memory (RAM): 3.00GB

    System type: 32-bit Operating System

    Windows 7 Home Premium Sp2

    GPU: ViDock4

  • Consider if your a gamer and a mobile DJ, if you drag a desktop to venues your an idiot, and if you drag a 3000 doller gaming lappy to a venue-your still an idiot, but yet, you want to do both right? so buy a cheap p.o.s. laptop with all your software on it for the music and save all the hardware at home where the gaming happens, on an external gpu and 40in hdtv lol.

unless your a fan of lan parties you dont need that kind of hardware on the town, unless you want yo shi stollen.

  • i want an external graphics card that doesnt need a fin external monitor cuz that just grounds my laptop and no point in having it if thats the case. so screw these multi monitor solutions.

  • they have them on amazon now for adding extra monitors

  • I rather go for the external graphics than buy one of those thick laptops dell is selling for $2000.00 bucks calling them alienware.

  • YES YES YES FUCKING EXTERNEL

  • forum notebookreview com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/418851-diy-vidock-experiences.html

  • that would be great ! Hmm..since USB 3 is coming around it can become a possibility since USB is too slow. How does USB 3 compare with PCI ports ?

  • 10000 stream procesor!!!!! on my quad core!with 800 fps on crisis man, think about it,huge gpu's,on the outside of your pc!!!!

  • I've seen a vidock 2 at work and I think it's incredible btw. The only thing that really matters is which graphics card you're using inside it.

  • My laptop is capable of displaying 720p but it is barely able to. If I had a ext. graph. card I could play a lot of todays games for much cheaper... Genius.

  • @alaskanhybrid new external cards are out there. I bought this computer and im gonna upgrade later with a better grahpic card. just perfect. :D

  • @alaskanhybrid very easy to do now. pm me for part names =]

  • i have stupid shizzy intel hd with a core i3 proccessor

    can i connect nvdia gef9800

  • @ismaol1 Most likey u can but i need to no ur GHz but like i said it probally gunna work

  • LOL I just want to play CoD4 at maximum fps and the reason I love that game is you dont need to have a super processor to play that game so all I need is an external graphics card so that i can get a good frame rate. Does ayone know a website that has good gaming external cards? thaanks.

  • This would be the best solution. You can use the External video card on any computer.

  • My Toshiba could use this......... flight simulator x is more like grainy-kinda simulation x

  • where can i but 1 what is a gd one but dont cost much

  • @LegoBoy300 get a vi dock 2 blank the blank has no video card

  • couldnt you just take your video card use a fiberglass siding with hole in the side with the cable going through and have it somewhere

  • @Ri1seAgainst Yes.

  • I hate when people think they're experts and talk out their ass

  • it's out for ages... and it's name is ASUS XG Station

  • these suck they are not worth it why> you will limited slow bandwitdths and will cost more than an actual video card.....

    you want a 5850 (305) plus a XG box (300) ........

  • i agree external video card , is best solution for PC and Laptops

  • @Edinb1979 for pc not really,but for a laptop...amazing breakthrough!

  • @Edinb1979 But what are good ones for laptops? I have a game that I just bought yesterday, critically acclaimed, but doesn't work on low settings (Nvidia Geforce GT 425M, 6gb RAM, 1.7GHz). The game only needs an Nvidia 8800, 2gb RAM, and 2GHz (0.3 off ONLY). It moves at 15fps, but my main issue is really the laggy controls with a 0.5-0.8 delay (educated guess). I move my mouse left and right twice before the mouse on screen moves in the game. Works fine in the title screen.

  • where can i buy external video cards???

  • look for ViDock2 ... also on YouTube

  • this an excellent idea especially for laptops.

  • I'm guessing no one knows where we can buy these?

  • where do i buy a external graphic card???

  • can anyone link me to a site where i can buy an external video card? thx

  • Whats super cooling? you mean another cooling solution...

  • can anyone pls give me any examples of external graphics card ,, cuz i wanna buy one.. thanks

  • i think that the XG Station might be one it is by nvidia

  • Wow thanks, but the one iam looking at has a geforce 8600gt installed on it, Is it possible to change the graphics card in the docking system to something more powerful ?

  • Wait wait wait, are they real, or just a rumor? Cause I've been googling and ebaying these things, and have only found capture cards. :S

  • they are real

  • I like the two monitors in this video

(Two next to each other)? Are they 30" Inches? what brand ? Glossy?

  • dell mate that is all that they sell i believe

  • They are two Dell 30" LCDs. They are not glossy.

  • I WANT ONE. THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME

  • Hello I have a Huge Question,I will Subscribe if you answer-Here is the Question-(by the way im computer illeterate compared to you)K-Can you Improve Gaming Capability with an External Hardrive.Because i do not have enough room on the computer and i would like 2 know if it will help.plz and thanks.

  • will it play GTA 4???????? i cant play it cuz my laptop has a video card that has NO and i mean -NO- power on it so i wanted to play gta 4 but if i get one of these things can i play it???

  • I WANT ONE OF THESE :[.

The only thing that's stopping me from playing, is my GFX :[, everything else is good.

    ;-;.

  • My laptop is downright slow. I think my graphics card has overheated several times so it would be good to have one of those.

  • ati should make external gpu at a size of express34 card. It will become very popular !

  • have these been released yet?

  • hey can u plz tell me what external gpu ur friend has. i heard about alot of them, but i don't know that any of them are being sold... anywhere. or maybe asus xg rog is sold somewhere but i can't find where. plz tell me where he bought it and which did he buy. thx in advance :D

  • I'm going to get a Fujitsu Sa 3650 soon with a "Graphics Booster" with ATI 3870 on it!! :D cant wait!! :D

  • but from my experience of course i would never buy again any hp product and also i would never buy an nv8600 based video card as this (together with hp bad costumer support) caused my 2000$ go to the trash in just one year. The only interesting solution seems to be the magma one cause you can change the video card but the price is wayy to high

  • I dont know if it is true but i found a site that has the asus xg (with the nv 8600) for 369 australian dollars.I also found that a company named magma already has a product named "expressbox" which can be used to connect a pci-e card (video or other) to a notebook but the price is way to high (749$). I m in need of such a device cause i own a crappy hp pavillion 9000 (payed about 2000$ a year back) with the internal nv8600 no longer working as it was faulty but hp doesnt care for its customers

  • I wonder can one some how use a USB flash drive memory for use as their dedicated Video Memory????

  • You can not use a Flash drive as video memory. Videomemory is typically DDR3 VRAM, and a flash drive is just flash memory.

  • I know it can be done for system ram like Virtual Ram ... Haven't have not done that myself, but know others who have. Video Memory not so sure.

  • Has the ATi XGP been released? I heard about it sometime last year? I thought it was cool at the time.

  • almost all laptop nowadays have multi monitor built in just buy a monitor plug it in to ur laptop no need for usb to dvi unless u want 3 or more!

  • I would love to have one for my laptop.

  • Me too, there was one released by NVidia but for some reason they only released it in Australia :(

  • I'm actually surprised no one manufactured external video cards to date... I cant understand WHY this hasn't happened yet. This probably has something to do with money and bureaucracy. Someone is probably making huge profits BECAUSE there is no such thing as external video cards, and he/they don't want this to change.

  • I thought the exact same thing.

  • @ibex333 ViDock i need to raise money o;

  • @ibex333 there is such thing look up the ViDock

  • does anyone have any info on WHEN a system like this will be on sale. me wanna have. :(

  • don't hold your breath... thats all i'm gonna say

  • i cant find an external i need one for my laptop

  • sooooo, i could get a nvidia or even ati graphics card for my laptop? instead of using the crappy built in chips?

  • Well your laptop needs to support the external video card. I only know one PC, the F-Siemens Amilo 3650 notebook that supports external video cards.

  • ahh that sucks real bad, i have a toshiba satallite l300

  • I heard that they dont really allow u to run higher graphics, but they only let run extra monitors. Is this true? cuz i would like to use it on my laptop to get decent graphics rather than crappy integrated

  • Same here. I knew I should have gotten a laptop with something that wasn't integrated -.-.

  • me too damn that guy at office max got me to buy this :(

  • no, u can use extra monitors... or use only one and get better performance.

  • whats da price of an external graphics card

  • wow, sitting that close to those monitors can't be that good on your eyes lol

  • and thats why he wears glasses :)

  • so if my laptop doesnt have a pci-e port i cant use this?

  • get a usb video adapter

  • i think its a great idea as long as its under $250 lol

  • I always wondered why they didn't think of that. External GPUs make a whole lot more of sense. You wouldn't have to buy a new power supply everytime you upgrade to a more powerful card, you could carry it with you wherever you go, etc.

  • id love to have one for my laptop instead of the shitty intel one i have seen an asus external one for their notebooks that uses pc mcia card slot connection with an 8600gt gpu

  • the xg station still ain't been released yet :(

  • check out the xg station

  • yeah sorry bud, get a reality check, the xg station still hasnt been released even after 2years of hype. That is unless u have a source, in which i apologize!

  • not out yet dude! unless u can send a link!

  • easy bra..i m just hoping something like this comes out..although i could really car e less cuz im gunna get a lenovo y 650 when they come out in march...1 inch thin 16 inch screen and nvidia gfx graphics(optional) 1200$ check it out

right now im on a hp mini 1000

have to say it's preety sweet

    head turner

  • do u have a link dude, i couldnt find any!

  • its still gonna be an intergrated graphics card so its no better than the intel X3100 where you would have to share your system RAM with the GPU

  • nvm..im gunna get nvidea ion netbook when they come out....currently have hp mini 1000 n its sweet as hell!!

  • u can't afford those fatty screens????

  • if i could hook up a nvidea video card to my 13" white macbook, i think id be the happiest man on earth

  • @mindphlux pretty sure you can

if you have a model with an expresscard 34 port (i know the macbook pro's have them, idk if macbooks have them)

  • I'm wondering what room do you think he's sitting in? It looks like he's made some kind of mini command center.

  • hahaha this guy is such a loser! but he knows his shit!

  • Chris, this is over a year old, what do you know about external video cards now? - I sent you a comment on your website, but I have an iMac intel core 2 duo with xp and osx, xp is used for my gaming, but i only have a 128 graphics card. Do you have an solutions for me?

    E-Town

  • so if that guy managed to get his pci-e external connected to his laptop, does this assume that he has it connected to a separate monitor and not laptops built in? I remember reading that every laptops controller for the built in screen is different and more or less, propietary.

  • I have a macbook pro with parallel OS I have successfully installed vista on there but cant play my ms flight simulator because the game cant read the video card or driver or some bs like that can i use an external video card?

  • Great feature. I'm looking forward to being able to buy an extenal video card. Are they out yet?

  • Great feature. I'm looking forward to being able to buy an extenal video card. Are they out yet?

  • cool now i can plug the external graphic card into my laptop and play games with hardcore graphics i have to see if it work for my laptop i have a feeling it will ,but i have feeling i wont like the price :(

  • sorry for double comment i pressed "Post Comment" twice

  • can i use an external vid card on my dell inspiron 1420???or can i change the one in it?? plz reply i wana play halo 2!!! oh and another thing if i can use an external or replaze the one in my laptop plz also give a link to buy or name or watever....thanks

  • can i use an external vid card on my dell inspiron 1420???or can i change the one in it?? plz reply i wana play halo 2!!! oh and another thing if i can use an external or replaze the one in my laptop plz also give a link to buy or name or watever....thanks

  • no wonder they dont sent you hardware, you would just fuck it up!

  • I think it's brilliant. Hard disk, CD ROM, Power, Memory, inside the main case, as well as minor video/audio hardware for minor tasks (NOT TOO MINOR!!). Power-user video cards on the outside. That's great, but I think they'll overprice these things too much, just because they can.

  • =D now I can get a laptop at easy. Because the laptop models I target have like only integrated graphics. Imma get an external video cards =D

  • For the record, the retailer I work with just released an External Video Card that uses a DisplayLink chipset and runs off of an available USB port. From our in-house tests, it won't support some forms of DirectX (so it rules out gaming with them). But it does let you add up to 5 additional displays through USB ports and it does run most of your average applications/display uses (MS Office, Windows Media Player, Flash Video (YouTube), etc.) very very well.

  • I recently bought the low-end 20" aluminum Intel iMac. I don't play games too often, but I ordered The Sims 2 the other night and being a former Sims Livin' Large addict, I would like to get back into the game. However, my Radeon HD 2400 card isn't good enough for this game (or any other game by Aspyr). Also, I read that it is impossible to upgrade this card, as it is part of the motherboard configuration. Do you know of a solution to my problem? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  • Heh, I couldn't take my eyes off the chat box.

  • chris i fully agree with you. an external graphics card is great especially on laptops because you cant really upgrade them that easily on laptops plus it reduces heat. i 100% agree

  • can ati or nvdivia grafics card run on xp?

  • yes those are the 2 most common graphics card makers

  • No offence Chris but external graphics cards seem a bit science fiction to me at this stage? But I think it would be very cool for laptop users...

  • There is nothing fictional about it. This month PC magazine talks about it and they have a big article about new PC Video Cards. They have also the ''how to upgrade a Video Card'' article.

  • Can you use an external video card with a macbook?

  • I was thinking of the exact same setup as your friend. I think an external setup would be a very appealing solution for those of us who want to enhance our notebook video processing abilities.

  • Let's stop the flaming. A related question is more interesting than that: Is there anything going on as far as speedier ports is concerned? Did FireWire loose out or is it still being developed? Not only gui, but also other peripherals would benefit from faster ports... Chris, what do you know?

  • G92. Requires less power so ill stick with internal gpus until ati and nvidia move to external.

  • OH, so the Mac is the problem then

    Apple sucks

  • External GPUs are great for us with laptops. If you have a laptop with integrated graphics you can just plug in at home to your external gpu for serious gaming. It's a great solution if you don't want to have a bulky desktop. But we have yet to see any benchmarks to see if they truly are just as powerful as an internal card.

  • Chris if you can afford to buy those dual 30" monitors, at least purchase a desent video camera that doesnt lag

  • Its not the camera thats the problem, he uses a mac for streaming the video.
