how do you drive using a map and still concenrate on the road ahead? What is the best way to drive using a map or atlas whichever? are you meant to plan you're way points before setting of on a piece of paper in large writing fonts. It's very difficult to read a map safely while driving due to the small scale

Thanks! The satellite is a 3D model of the Cassini probe from the NASA website, rendered in Mental Ray using the very nice mia_materials. Tons of presets for metals, plastics and such, makes life a lot easier

Might I ask (if you ever read this) what are your upload settings? The HQ thingy confuses me - I thought HQ was 640x360 but you have a 850 window.

I upload my films at 1024x576, which is square pixel PAL resolution at 25fps, in WMV format. Most importantly, I sharpen the video, as it seems to make a huge difference to the quality. I always put the sharpening at lowest quality on camera though, as it's just a post process and hinders effect work

Well spotted, yeah I used the Cassini probe from the NASA site. Best model up there I found. Glad no-one's pointed out it's not a communications satellite yet either

Also, nice motion blur and shadow on the building. The lighting environment reflected off the satellite matches the scene really well. The more I look at that shot the more I like it. The little details really sell it.

Thanks @BGenerous, always nice to get found models - will probably start using TurboSquid et al if I ever have the need for a complicated model

Credit where it's due though - the Mental Ray Production shaders really make a lot of that reflection, materials and lighting stuff pretty easy and automatic. Once you know how to use Maya that is ;)
