@1:18 George plays a little too fast the last extended arpeggio...god damn it he almost did it perfectly! Now, from experience I would urge myself during a replicative effort to dismiss this emphasis on sheer speed to keep consistent the feel and tone of the technique applied to render that phrase of expression...
This must be one of my favorite videos on youtube. no matter how fast he goes there's still a ton of feeling in every single note. i just wish i could play like this
nice CHOPS but this is a slow blues? am I missing something? I hear a slow backing track with mainly fast playing over it, thats it. Certainly not a SHRED (ethem) of the essence of a slow blues.I recommend going back and studying some of the blues greats who invented that style of music. Or retitle this vid to something more appropriate.

@davtones mmm he got classical influence, but sounds nothing like malsmteen, actually i think he got his own unique sound, he doesn't sound like anybody i have ever heard.
this is not the blues. I suppose it is giving me the blues though since it is shaming the name of a genre formulated from despair and expression not showing off., which is all he seems to be doing. Shitty phrasing to boot.
I do admit he is very clean tone wise for a shredder.
His distortion is not high. I know for a fact that George sets his gain at 4. Just e-mail him and he'll reply. I've got to know George a bit through e-mail. Super nice guy and always takes time to reply to fans. I asked him what settings he uses and his reply said 4 for gain. It's definitely a lot cleaner than all other shredders. Anyway, he's definitely a great player and a great guy.
I don't understand how people can play with high amounts of distortion(I can't because I can't mute unwanted noise, and i can't play up to my full potential),I think the reason george uses low distortion because of his right hand technique(so it would be easier to mute strings you aren't playing at the moment) because he's anchoring his picking hand with three fingers
Yeah...this song has speed, but I still can hear that is played with feelings, maybe it is not like Becker but he has one of the most clean sweep picking. You should look for "Mind Over Matters" Album, 03.Reflections and 11.Collage.... these are very nice Played with Heart songs.

man why do people alway talk shit about every guitar player even from yngwie to steve vai. man these guy are all bad ass guitar player. of course some time they come out with a song u don't like but that does not mean they are a bad guitar player! this guy george ROCK!
Blues is what you make of it. I don't think GB intended it to be called "blues," but whatever.
Some of you guys are full of shit because you seem to discredit things that don't fall into what YOU think can be categorized under blues.
People always crap on guys like Vinnie Moore, George Bellas, Yngwie, etc.. because they know they can never play like them. They're limited to their little cliche blues licks.
Grow a pair and put time in the woodshed you bunch of damned snobs!
grow a pair? wtf is your problem you got too much time on ur hands...this is not blues to me sorry it made you have a hissy fit..take the backing track off this song and it sounds nothing like blues. i never said it was bad its just NOT blues. With as many videos as you got posted up on here (0) i wouldnt be talkin all that big game mr shit talker unless you can back it up with your "un-cliche" licks, if you can even play guitar that is.
Idiot re-read my comment. I wasn't even talking to you beyong one point.
By the way, it's funny how you little punks are always saying "I don't see your vids... etc..." Videos don't determine a good player. Most of those guys making videos edit and retake them a hundred times before they ever get published.
I play live and for real with no retakes and touch-ups. I don't need edited little videos recorded through a camcorder to prove anything.
I agree with you, blues is what you make of it. You don't need to only use 1 box with 5 notes to make it strictly Blues. It's all about the emotion and expression, which George oozes it.
Fair enough if it's not you're type of Blues, but it is still a form of Blues. Is your definition of Blues strictly Crossroads style or BB King? What about Gary Moore, he Still had the Blues and that is a similar backing to what George has here, yet that song Gary uses strictly Aeolian and harmonic minor, yet it's still a blues song. Blues can come in many different forms, and here George is definitely playing the blues. I'm not having a go at you either, just expressing my opinion.
Great player, but guys like this just can't seem to play enough notes - if he spaced it out a bit, it would be less boring and build better tension...
I agree, he's repeating the same scale patterns over and over. I prefer the jazz blues. He does have a good feel and tons of chops tho. Rather hear Jeff Beck
I agree with you. Unlike the people who gave you thumbs down, I recognize that you aren't talking shit. He has everything he needs to execute perfect leads, he's just playing way too many notes and it's kind of overkill. Unbelievable player, though. Yngwie doesn't have shit on this guy.
Rollotony, cheers, but it's only my opinion - and that may not account for much! Don't get me wrong, it's quite exiting to hear fast playing by someone who can really pull it off, but personally, not through the entire tune - there's no light and shade for me...
Well-it ain't blues &it ain't slow, but its fucking GREAT. He's unbelievable ! One of the greats ,certainly. Y'all should check out 3 equally great Japanese guitarists called KATSU OHTA,TAKAYOSHI OHMURA,& GENTARO.
This guy is awesome, but this is completely not "slow blues". There is basically nothing bluesy about it. Still he is obviously an amazing shredder. 5*
It's neo-classical, OF COURSE YJM is an influence! However, I hear a lot of Vinnie Moore's tone, articulation, & fluidity.
(Think of the Intro improv-shred on Vinnie's first instructional video.)
Bellas may not be "re-writing" the book on neo-classical shred vocabulary, but he sure has a lot of passion, articulation, and a VERY-HIGHLY developed technique!
Stevie Ray Vaughan didn't re-write Blues-vocabulary, but he mixed his influences and played with great tone, fire & passion. Peace!
He played something like this at Uli Jon Roth and Friens last year. He is obviously an amazing player and was a real nice, and very down to earth guy when I had a chance to speak with him at the show. I brought one of his CD's to get signed and I could tell that he really appreciated his fans.
Parabens ..... I see your video every day ... one of the best in the yotube ..... I am trying to learn to play the 1 year and hopefully playing guitar one day look to you.
Amazing guitarist. Sounds like he went to the Yngvie school of Guitar. 1,000 notes per second. =) Good stuff tho'. I'd give my left ball to play HALF that well.
Well, it's closer to Fusion than actual Blues, but I see what you mean... And his improvisation skills are great! I don't understand why you said it was terrible.
Ok!Bellas is an amazing shredder!and I think that what is worth to be mentioned about him is that he alt.picks and sweeps so smoothly and so cleanly(even though he picks every note, his notes flow and sound connected[legato type of thing])!and his tone is amazing too!I ain't a shredder myself but I appreciate the talent and the effort of these players.
This guy is not just a shredder, this guy is a true virtuoso musician.

I agree, he's repeating the same scale patterns over and over. I prefer the jazz blues. He does have a good feel and tons of chops tho. Rather hear Jeff Beck
durtmagert 2 years ago
I agree with you. Unlike the people who gave you thumbs down, I recognize that you aren't talking shit. He has everything he needs to execute perfect leads, he's just playing way too many notes and it's kind of overkill. Unbelievable player, though. Yngwie doesn't have shit on this guy.
Rollotony 2 years ago
Rollotony, cheers, but it's only my opinion - and that may not account for much! Don't get me wrong, it's quite exiting to hear fast playing by someone who can really pull it off, but personally, not through the entire tune - there's no light and shade for me...

You don't know shit about Yngwie then.

que tiene eso de blues?
larryfloro 3 years ago

well its not really blues at all. the backing is sort of a blue chord progression, but hes not using blues scales.

This guy is awesome, but this is completely not "slow blues". There is basically nothing bluesy about it. Still he is obviously an amazing shredder. 5*

malmsteen influence!
AndreaSg61 3 years ago
It's neo-classical, OF COURSE YJM is an influence! However, I hear a lot of Vinnie Moore's tone, articulation, & fluidity.
(Think of the Intro improv-shred on Vinnie's first instructional video.)
Bellas may not be "re-writing" the book on neo-classical shred vocabulary, but he sure has a lot of passion, articulation, and a VERY-HIGHLY developed technique!
Stevie Ray Vaughan didn't re-write Blues-vocabulary, but he mixed his influences and played with great tone, fire & passion. Peace!
billmeedog 3 years ago 2
agree. i hear slightly more vinnie moore-ish than yjm.

He played something like this at Uli Jon Roth and Friens last year. He is obviously an amazing player and was a real nice, and very down to earth guy when I had a chance to speak with him at the show. I brought one of his CD's to get signed and I could tell that he really appreciated his fans.

Amazing guitarist. Sounds like he went to the Yngvie school of Guitar. 1,000 notes per second. =) Good stuff tho'. I'd give my left ball to play HALF that well.

LOL, isnt blues, he improvise terrible.
But has a great technique.
GunterBrenner 3 years ago
Well, it's closer to Fusion than actual Blues, but I see what you mean... And his improvisation skills are great! I don't understand why you said it was terrible.
Gianfrancoco 3 years ago
it's because he plays to many notes without sense, like doing only picking exercises but with a backing track
espMF 3 years ago
What might not make sense to you might make alot of sense to him, and isn't that what's most important...
Gianfrancoco 3 years ago
I agree, what might not make sense to you makes a lot of musical sense to me... I listen to a lot of music though.
