  • Oooh. That was so nice!! Thank you!

  • My reaction is wonder at the force and control from such a small child. Wonderful!

  • mezzo soprano and soprano are female voices. When a boy sings in that register he is a treble. I knowwhat I am talking about - I was a choirmaster.

  • Pure voice. Bravo!

  • a boy can not be a soprano . only a treble.

  • @yourenglishclasses Ofcourse, boy can be soprano. For example Richard Bonsall, Clint vad Der Linde, Alois Mühlbacher :) Girl can be mezzosoprano- for example Jackie Evancho.

  • Wow. Really nice ornamentation, and the C at the end is flawless! That Italian "I" is a really awkward vowel for high notes and he does it beautifully.

  • The child is lovely. The adult who coached him on the ending has no musical taste. Ending ruined the beginning!

  • Que interpretación mas bella! La voz de un niño es tan angelical. Me a echo sacar lagrimas.

What a beautiful interpretation! The voice of a child is so angelical. It has made my eyes teary.

  • simply talented young soprano.....very entertaining performance....thanks for sharing.

  • what an angel! :)

  • vãi cả lồn X_X

  • The problem is NOT the way he sings but the awful camera sound that increased the decibels thus making this video a bad recording. The boy is truly outstanding.

  • partecipa al concorso per voci online indetto dal blog Musicamore

  • Marvellous - and only 11! :O

  • He's not that good: you can see it when he has to get with the high notes. There are much better trebles in England or in Germany. It's horrible the way this kid sings, he almost screams. Horrible. Get to see Robin Schlotz or Panito Iconomou, then you'll see.

  • @evarae87. Iconomou and Schlotz don't have to sing against a modern orchestra. I only wish Asian kids would sing something else besides these saccharin pieces.

  • @evarae87 Are you sure it's not just the timbre of his voice? He has a richer tone in his voice than a lot of boy sopranos have... I don't think he sounds like he's screaming, I just think he doesn't sound as light as most trebles do. I also think that his ability to keep his body and face completely relaxed throughout the performance is an indicator of good technique as, if he was struggling, it would show on his face.

  • @evarae87 What a racist comment you just made. Good thing you are not in the majority.

  • @Tamtumergo I didn't mean to sound racist. My comment was nonetheless some kind of ascertainment about this kid's voice and technique. What I said is just an opinion. Am I being racist only because I express an opinion about better choirs in England or Germany? I regret you understood that. These countries are amongst the best in musical tuition to children, so it's a based opinion. I'm sorry, but minutes 3:40 and further are simply disastrous.

  • @evarae87 I saw that they singed some songs, and I agreed they are so wonderful and good singer and have a nice voices, but they don't reach at that korean boy. They are so good singer than normal boy, but don't compare korean boy. it feels in my bone, not compare. that make me asult. thank you guy.

  • OMZ (o my zeus) hes better than me

  • Little boy-BIG voice. Superb.

  • this boy has a big head...it s scared jkajajajajaj

  • Thank you for your beautiful interpretation of this beautiful work, I enjoyed it very much.

  • This is a God's gift to this child. Others use it for something else. Bravo young man. I am certain that he's capable of big master pieces. Well done & once more bravo!

  • Excellent singing but could definitely use his face more. Check out Alex Chorley - he's a bit younger but his face comes alive when he sings - very entertaining!

  • what is he going to do when his vios changes

  • woooow im speachlees

  • A lot of vocal power for an 11-year-old singer; most his age would have scarcely been audible with that big an orchestra. I wonder what his voice sounds like now--I would guess his career is over or nearly so, as he would be about 14.

  • Beautiful! I hope he kept singing.

  • oh man, i cant wait until i have kids. I am sooo going to make my boys be singers

  • let them chose.

  • no way. forcefulness is the key to good parenting.

  • Beautiful! I enjoyed this very much!

  • Extraordinary. It's regrettable this young voice was pitted against too much orchestra. A handful of players would have set this remarkable child's gifts in greater relief. It reminded me of David and Goliath. It's been two years since this lad recorded this. Where is he now?

  • ..a volte è un pò calante, ma comunque rimane molto gradevole

  • ahh, the last part, he finished with 2 stops...

  • Wow, he's better than the altered voice in the movie "Farinelli", also his italian pronunciation is fine. Oh, I can say that because I'm italian and I understant all the lyrics.

  • Beautiful!!! Love his pronunciation - superb. Also, his poise and aplomb on stage are remarkable for someone his age. The tonal qualities are wonderful also... one could ask for a bit more "real emotion", but overall this is a lovely, pure performance of a great classic work.

  • you idiot...he's 11!!! this is why children break and crumble under the pressure of idiotic adults who are never satisfied. were you performing like this at 11?

  • Mr. Sixfour: This is a public forum: your harsh words are visible to the entire word and may come back to bite you some day. That said, i fail to see how complimenting his performance at least 4 different ways while offering one suggestion for improvement, is being "never satisfied" and in any way likely to cause the lad any stress at all. People at all ages and stages of their development need both encouragement and honest feedback: these go together and should not be separated.

  • tell that to the next 11 year old who is crying their eyes out because someone told then they weren't good enough. i am in the performance industry and i see children criticized way too much. God bless him....

  • There is a BIG difference between offering ideas for improvement, and "criticizing". By the time a child is old enough to understand and use language, they are old enough to be introduced to the concept that nothing and nobody is perfect: everything can always be better. If this is conveyed in a supportive, encouraging manner (as i believe i did.....), the result is an attitude of "i'm good now, but i can be even better in the future!!" A diet of "you're the best!!" comments, is unhealthy.

  • this is true of, but asking for a bit more "real emotion" from an eleven year old seemed too harsh. he's mastering the language and handling executing the song and you can see that he is giving his all...all of things considered, i think the "constructive criticism" unnecessary!!! real emotion? how much has he lived? who knows if he really wants to be singing? many of my friends growing up did it out of obedience and not for the love of art. children should be handled carefully...shouldn't they?

  • Incredible voice and very powerful. I wish the orchestra would have backed off a bit as I feel they drowned bits of his voice.

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • not bad!

  • Very expressive singing for such a young soloist. He is to be complimented for his legato and tonal qualities. TY!

  • A gifted young musician ! sigh !

    Thanks for sharing James! :)

  • he has a very elegant presence, and a voice to match, but i think the piece is actually called "Lascia la spina"

  • Lascia la Spina is from Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno this lascia ch'io pianga is I believe (could be wrong) from Rinaldo? any who, Ch'io pianga is much more common to hear, even though both pieces are similar.

  • It is from Rinaldo.

  • Beautiful Song. And the kid is a great singer. Could someone tell me the name of the piece if they know it? pm it or what not, it rly is a beautiful piece.

  • Could not believe this is an Asian treble. He should have European training. Hes fantastic. Tenoruser you are so right about the cadenza. Not many Western boys could manage that. Romydomagas is so right. I had a Cathedral School and Choir upbringing, and could reach top 'e' which is very high. This boy is so so good. Lets hope somebody reconizes that before his voice breaks. I'm blown away. Great vid, Lots more please haeun72. Thanks.

  • Nagyon tehetséges.Csodálatosan énekel.

  • Beautifull, listen till the end to hear the Cadenza!!!

  • EXCELLENT!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • Very sweet tone and sensitive singing

  • What amazing clarity. He reminds me of a young Connor Burrowes 15 years ago. Romydomaras, I agree, this young man compares very well even to the best English Cathedral Choir boys - which is particularly exciting, because 20 years ago such training for boys voices did not exist outside of Europe.

  • excellent singer :)

  • I cannot refrain from commenting again as I listen to this wonderful asian boy soprano. He is the best singer so far as far as comparing to European or American boy singers I heard. This is my opinion and I hope I will not be misunderstood. Thank you for posting this. I can' stop listening over and over again. Please post some more. Bravo !

  • just got goose bumps... He is so good. Well done!!!

  • sheer beautiful singing ...

  • Beautiful, if not for You Tube , talents like these cannot be enjoyed worldwide. It is a treasure in Music that all around the world regardless of color can express and give joy to all.

  • Very beautiful touching voice. Thanks for sharing.

  • in the best Farinelli style:D well done!

  • Beautiful Voice

  • Accidenti è bravo questo ragazzino!

  • Simply beateful <3

  • Sorry: "Farinelli"...:)- "private" posted by me.

    Kind regards from Germany

    wskfan= fan of Vienna Boys´Choir ...:)

  • OMG if it was not for youtube, we'd all be missing out what the other countries/culture have to offer, thanks for uploading! This child has an angelic voice

  • @randolphpastoriza yes marvelous.

  • @randolphpastoriza LIsten to the same aria sung by Belgian boy soprano Thibaut Knoop, that' soooo excellent.

  • Boy, it's NOT a counter-tenor since he's an 11 y-o child. As you sure know, (in a simple way) our voice has its MAIN changes through puberty and "pre-adult" state (say to the almost deffinitive 20 y-o male voice). Now, if that already happened and you STILL can sing high feminine tones, then you can call yourself a counter-tenor.

And by the way at the end of your sentence, you don't say "then", it's spelled "than" =)

  • I was contra-tenore myself until age 17. I can still do it a little bit with some reinforcement. The contra maschilini adds nurturing sensitivity to virility. Here's to the Yang dominant straight male!

  • C'est vraiment MAGNIFIQUE !!

    Merci pour ce grand moment

  • He's 11 and at 11 you don't have vibrato, and if its not naturally there then to add it for effect is not proper. And male soprano's repetior is not written or intended to be filled with arpeggio's and grace notes, or even a whole lot of dynamic for that matter. I will agree his italian could be better, but this kid has wonderful timbre, tone and a richness to his voice that is often not found in boy soprano's. And NedRorem, don't comment on subjects beyond your understanding.

  • it is not for you to tell someone not to comment on something just because they don't understand. That was his own opinion wether his was right or wrong.

  • What gives you the gaul to call me a little maggot and for your info i'm 22yrs old and far from little. Regardless if that person knew their subject or not you still didn't have a right to tell that person what he should or should not do. I don't know who the hell you think your are and yes there is such thing as an opinion and your gave one in the message you so had the nerve to do and insult me like the stupid ass holeing bitch you are.

  • He's good! And only 11!

  • The boy is very good (although he cannot pronounce an Italian U, as many Koreans). The variations are also reasonable, except for the horrible cadenza at the end.

    But the conductor is stupid.

  • yea

  • He is good.

  • dam~!!!!!!!!!!!! hes good but im sry im not into opera..wait is it opera??

  • Yep, I think it's Handel from Rinaldo I think. The singer is singing about crying or something. Amazing how simple music can sound so emotional..

  • OH MY GOD! O.O

    So Perfect.

  • So extremely beautiful!!!!

  • That's adorable. But I'm seriously curious what they'll do when he hits puberty.

  • All boys are sopranos until their voice changes during puberty. The best of them ride out the tough period where their voice cracks and cackles, and re-emerge on the other side as good singers of all sorts, from bass to tenor. For a precious few, their voice never really changes much and they become "counter-tenors" or male altos. In times past, the boys with the most angelic voices were prevented from ever reaching puberty - you've heard of the term "castrato"? That's them!!

  • Generally Countertenors have a "normal" singing voice and what they do when they sing as a counter tenor is a type of falsetto. Not all boys are sopranos before their voices break. There are a few very good examples on Utube of those

  • Points well taken - my bad!! Most boys *are*, however, sopranos before puberty - however, only a VERY few ever get as good as the young lad in this video!!!

  • Never bad!!! and you are so right - there are very few good ones, but utube has some good 'uns. Happy listening

  • No, they are not. There are boy altos as well.

  • Not all boys are Sopranos before they hit puberty i don't where you got that from.

  • The vast majority of boys are "trebles" - have a high voice and can sing in the soprano range - before their voice starts to go through the changes associated with puberty. Some older, pre-pubescent boys do sound better when singing alto, and not all young boys can reach the highest notes (like Queen of the Night F...), but virtually all boys start out with high voices and end up with lower ones as their bodies mature.

  • OMG....how angelic not only for the ears but also to the eyes. Brilliant!!!!

  • so beautiful

  • Omg this is so cute T_T

I want a little son that could sing like that boy

    aaaw ñ__ñ

  • I wish I could still sing like that. I was 9 when I played amahl in Amahl and the Night Visitors, now I'm fourteen, and I lost the ability, but hopefully I turn out to be a good tenor.

  • as an ex-music teacher, I admire your appreciativeness and goodwill. Hopefully, you will turn out to be a good tenor.

  • i never had the ability to sing high. I have been destined at a young age to be a Bass II. When i was 9 i was hitting notes that any normal boy would find scary lol.

  • OMG sososososo wonderful!!!!!

  • Lovely voice, just as I had when I was his age, I wished I was able to have a recording like the boy, that was for me 58 years ago. jet1939 5-6-08 UK.

  • I am not sure as to what LaKritika is talking about. She probably heard something different, and placed her comment here, by accident.

The boy is perfect in every sense.

One has to account for the extremely poor quality of the recording, the accoustics of the place (Very poor in my opinion), and the fact that he had no microphone. Well... None that I could see!

I would flawless, but he did make one single mistake at the end, and quickly corrected himself.

  • Amazing high notes!

  • so so trained, so obviously taught. agree, out of the cultural context. Now the littel boy sings a Handel's aria about the drama and sadness about getting to old age...

His voice is somewhat shaky and unstable in the upper register. Gifted child, no doubt. BUT! Why the child needs to attempt vibrato? The boys voice naturally needs to be straight.

What he does with vowels? I guess we should put the blame on the teacher.. no kids fault, he is a student. THE END IS HORRIBLE>>>>

  • when were you last 11?

  • Sing, baby!!!

  • Wonderful voice, but the last cadence spoiled it. Unfortunately there seems to be just one way to preserve it...

  • it = the voice

  • one of my favorite tunes...especially by the Vienna boys choir..

  • I've never heard such a good boy soprano in my life!!

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

  • this is soo cool i culd never do that

  • That kid's got talent. That song is part of Farinelli's soundtrack... not far from the way this kid's singing

  • Dear lesavyfav:

I am not sure which part of the world you come from, but I believe there is no culture that is "detached from [any] type of music". South Korea is abundant with great musicians and so is everywhere else.

  • Then, your argument is that any group of people who are remote from the source of music [e.g. Italy, Western Europe] are viable as performers even if they lack social and culture understanding. Art is not merely mimicry of something beautiful. Art is art only in its context.

  • That is a bit of a sweeping statement. I think he has quite a talent for an eleven year old, and there is nothing whatsoever wrong with the orchestra.

  • i think if one could say that about some country then about yours.

  • I don't see the relevancy of this response.

  • I agree. Sounds cheesy. Lacks cultural context.

  • "Art chooses to name its fatherland of its own free will."

    ---Franz Liszt

  • O.O

    q akm xD lindo

    beautifulllll

  • Wow. That's some serious talent.

  • Lovely, but should have relied on original ornamentation instead of borrowing from a certain movie.

  • Lui e troppo giovene per questa canzone. Un ragazzo di 11 anni non dove sappere niente di cruda sorte. Lua sua vita dove essere piena di felicita. Lo ascolto e voglio piangere. Bella voce.

  • Actually they count life begining with inception. Therefore you are 9 months old when born provided they went to term. It is the proper way when you think about it. You were alive and growing before delivery when we start counting.

  • No No No people in Korea are actually one year younger because you become one year old at birth.

  • Actually, if I remember correctly, you are considered one year old at three months, because the gestation period counts as 9 months; plus that in many countries, when you are "going on" whatever age. you ARE considered THAT AGE. So, come to think of it, I think I've just made your argument, sort of, for both you, AND hksj012. Now how does that sound?

  • He'd be counted as age 9 in the West.

  • Is age different in Korea then?

  • Is age diferent in Korea then ?

  • his name is Jung???

    if not what is it???

    thanx

  • He is...briliant! But yes, the last cadenza is to be practised

  • Most soprano boys becames baritone after change his voice. This kid is amazing but, the final cadenza...Horrible!

  • bellissima voce

ma è come il profumo non si può più fermare

    che Dio stronchi la modernità

  • Amazing little fellow!!!

  • wow! i love his voice!

  • really? wow, then he must be really something.... hehehe. Normally we lose our high pitched voice during our puberty. May be he made it his career, hehehe. EXELENTE!

(do you have any video of him performing at his present age?)

  • What a gifted throat! hehehe

continue develop your voice, you'll lose that when you reach your puberty stage.

  • Exellent!!!

  • castratelo

  • maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan

than voice is just so perfect at such a young age

makes my falsetto sound amateurish by lots

  • well done

  • such full sound for a voice that age. impressive!!

  • just angelic. beautiful clarity. A promising future here. would love to see more

  • i would like to let this boy in peace with the hight notes he done the high c very well but it will be dangerous for his voice you have just to wait that he will became 15 or 17 for start the opera lesson and so tuch the high A for example.i studied it.

  • Is that so? Coz I was soprano when I was 11-13 y.o. and actually hit the high C with ease. I am actually interested now to be a countertenor.

  • countertenor! thats...well, wow.

  • it's funny when the song is titled let me cry...coz i did as i watched this little angel sing.

  • it's so wonderful...

  • This is not unusual for a Boy Soprano to sing in this manner. When the voice changes,

    he should pursue singing.

  • What is the title of this piece?

  • hi Sayuri3, this piece is called "Lascia che io pianga" (let me cry) an aria of Handel of his opera Rinaldo.

  • Lascia ch'io pianga mia cruda sorte,

    E che sospiri la libertà.

    Il duolo infranga queste ritorte

De' miei martiri sol per pietà.

  • The band is too loud!

The conductor does not support properly!

    Poor lad looks terrified.

Shame just as he will be getting the hang of his voice it's going to break.

Thinking of Farinelli, where did I leave my seccaturs :-)

  • Fantastic performance for such a young boy. He has a bright future in music if his parents and handlers let him be a boy first and a soloist second.

  • this is my mums cousin her name is mary reid

  • oke, that is a boooooooooy singing....halo?

  • It was absolute stunning until the end. Whoever coached him to sing that long note that long and that shrill, should have his head examined. No fault of the child's. The singing and tone quality other than that was gorgeous and unpretentious. Just what it should be.

  • That kid is going to be so screwed when he starts going through puberty.

  • Ah, stop saying things like that; enjoy the moment.

  • no sometimes they cut off "parts" so they cant

  • I agree with you

  • bravo!!

  • a este hijo de puta hay que cortarle las pelotas, si no se las cortaron todavia
