Idiot. Maybe as deadly as a lady bug when it's not biting, but given the chance it feels provoked, that spider is gonna bite down on your hand so hard and inject all it's venom into you. It can't do that when you stick your hand in it's web because you move away, but think about it. Biting a moving car vs biting the floor. Hmmm, which is easier?
Ha ha she is trying to get away...that's what they do, they try and get away, they don't bite you. They don't leap out and attack you. If they can't get away though, they will bite - that's why I wouldn't do this, because of the tiny risk that if she should somehow become trapped against your body she will bite. They are very sweet natured spiders, very timid...gorgeous creatures with such power, but they don't use it. Humans could learn a lot from them! You are very brave and noble to do this.
if you're interested in seeing some Brazilian wandering spider vids, look at my channel. I've favorited some of the ones I've come across. The key is to search in Spanish for them to find user uploaded vids.

(That and huntmens...only cause they like to drop from the ceiling and turn up when you're on the loo.) :P
@30bazz What's to say that its fangs might (or might not) be able to pierce the gloves? If it bites and punctures the material, you're still fucked! If that's the case, your best bet would be to wear along-sleeved shirt & pair of rawhide heavy work gloves, and put some Velcro strips on the wrists (good and tight, mind) to make absolutely sure the spider doesn't get inside the glove, or the shirtsleeve.
yup agree, go to brazil, and find the brazilian wandering spider and try to handle that.

As I said in a post on a similar video, I think animals can sense when you mean them harm and a calm attitude is essential when attempting something like this. Don't be lulled into a false sense of security though, these spiders are highly dangerous and in extreme cases can be fatal. This man knows what he is doing and things like this shouldn't be attempted by amateurs. The specimen I keep personally is treated with the utmost respect and I do NOT handle her.
@spiderpug I live in East Tennessee and my spider friend is a beautiful Southern Black Widow. I keep her in a modified plastic container with a screw on lid. I have air holes drilled into the top and in 3 horizontal rows along the sides. The substrate is a soil/sand combo with pieces of bark and moss. There are sticks for climbing and web-building. I water her every other day and feed her wild-caught insects once a week. She is very healthy and has molted once in the month that I've had her.
@spiderpug We do indeed have a good variety of snakes. The largest is the Black Rat Snake which can get 7 ft long although 5 to 6 ft is much more common. We have water snakes, garter snakes, many small woodland species such as the Worm Snake and Ringneck Snake. The Eastern Hognose Snake can be found but isn't common as well as 3 species of King Snakes plus a few others. The venomous species include Copperheads and Timber Rattlesnakes. Most can be found with a little searching and patience.
These are species found in my immediate area which is in East Tennessee. The terrain is mountainous with generally fast moving streams. Other areas of the state have a more diverse selection of species such as Cottonmouths and Coachwhip Snakes in the southern and western areas. Pygmy Rattlesnakes can be found in some areas as well. Other statewide species include Racers, Green Snakes and Pine Snakes in localized populations where conditions are favorable. Generally speaking, a good variety.
@RaffeTheExplorer I live in East Tennessee also, and I had one of those in my building last year. Saw one a few weeks ago in the building again and killed it. It had an egg sack which I burnt with a torch. I don't want them multiplying in my vicinity and risk me or my family getting bitten and possibly killed. Normally if I see one in another location far from humanity I will leave them be. As for snakes the only poisonous/venomous ones here are the rattlesnake and the copperhead.
@sqhschief Yeah, I felt I had a choice since I know something about spiders to keep her rather than kill her. Well, I take that back, I could have re-located her too but I found her to be a fascinating animal to observe. The other venomous species I mentioned were from other parts of the state. The post you read was the second half of a larger post I'd made. You are right about rattlesnakes and copperhead being the only ones in our immediate area. Have a great day.
For all you idiots out there that think a Black Widow bite will kill you,.. your retarded. I have a pet Widow and its nothing. I got bit, its like the flu except you sweat more. Not one person in the US has died of a Widow bite in over 10 years
@DaLiSpY10 Spiders don't just bite you for no reason, and no I cant 'predict', but i can notice the behaviour in spiders. I have done this 4 times already
@spiderpug they have potential to kill even know they havent got a got a bad temper u still lucky wen u get bitten because of your foolishness ima laugh and get whole of u tube to see why i am laughin good video but hahahaha
@DaLiSpY10 This is not foolishness, if I didn't think I was capable of holding it without being bitten I would not have done it. I have been interested, and held spiders since I was 2 so I know what they are like
everyones a bloody expert. this guy was in no danger same as if a funnelweb was on him however funnelwebs have a hair trigger response compared to a red bak.
A true Aussie...... its good to see someone has respect for these little guys,,, funnel web's on the other hand, still need respect but to be left alone.
If I saw a funnel web I'd kill it because I heard that they attack even if they're not provoked. If a spider is going to bite you or you feel that it might, you'd understand my situation with spiders. I don't have a friendly history with spiders.
:)
Spiders creep me out, and I have a really swift reaction to kill any spiders that cross my path. Their movements are extremely unpredictable. Also in certain situations I steer clear of Black Widows, wolf spiders, etc.
RB Spiders are not as bad as people think they are. Chances are, unless your a child or an elderly person and you're bitten by one, You normally get nausea within the first hour, and your fine after that. With only 14 cases on Aus of a RB bite causing death, and only 20% requiring any treatment at all. RB bites are really not that bad.
@cbbbtc Males are not dangerous to humans. And yes this is a female... I'm not lucky, I just know what I'm doing. I've done it 4 times already, twice with a heavily pregnant female. Don't worry, I know what I am doing :D
@spiderpug also its doesent matter if u get bitten u no that it can take hours or days for the venom to take effect at all so if u get bitten whille recording just leave the camera on or off then go to a medical centre k and make sure the spider dosent get out its so creepy haveing one of those things crwal on u once a FUNNEL WEB crwaled on my foot i was so scared until it walkd off and i got a toliet plunger put it under it then started to push up and down im so lucky :)
@mosher22 yea they dont but i have seen and heard bout 1% can be males if they hav a little tiny red spot but yea u never no like red marker (very very very very red) on an amimal that cant bite u it changes its look yea but most of the males dont hav the red mark :)
I had a colony of black widows in my backyard. They were all over the place, both male and female. Let's just say they're gone for good...but if people enjoy fondling them then more power to you.
@MrAirgunlover but it all depends on alot of things... how old you are, how big or small you are, how fit you are, how much venom got into you, if your more allergic than other people. Not very nice if you do get bit though
@spiderpug, people might think that just by putting your hand out so they can crawl out to you, they will bite you!, i mean, they are not THAT aggressive, lets say you put let a normal moth, crawl onto your hands, flying away is its speciality, of protecting its self, its the same with dangerous spiders, don't freak out just stay still, dude, i totally understand!
This is kinda like a confidence booster because I have a ton of Black Widows in my back and front yard. I have arachnophobia, so I'll never handle any kind of spider anytime soon. =D
if it does bite, which it could..ur going to no about it,i can see u hav handled spiders b4 and you no what your doing..but if that spiders having a shit day,in go the fangs!.take the next step a get the old funnel web out!
Dude spiders just freak me out haha. How would you handle the funnel web because every video i see of the funnel web its showing off its fangs at the camera :S and running around looking pissed.
Haha, see the thing is. I have noticed alot of people think that animals and insects are "out to get them" sort of thing... not true. Alot of people believe ridiculous stories of funnelwebs chasing them, snakes chasing them to kill them, it is just not true and often a common response people have to animals like these with the horrible reputation they have.
BUT-BUT-BUT! lol Only when harrassed, like a stick being poked at them or disturbing them by shaking them in a container. Thats why I dont just pick spiders up by grabing them, I give them a choice to walk onto my hand by placing my hand infront of them. Most spiders are basically blind, so they don't have the ability to see the predator clearly and chase people.
ur my hero! haha... I use to have a tarantula i found at the park and a pet black widow and i would always hold the tarantula cause it never snapped at me (even at one point took at nap with it on my chest) but id never touch the black widow... just the thought of maybe one day being like "im bite this fool" scared me haha...
Ah, maybe. centipedes are so unpredictable and they pretty much bite anything they see. I grabbed a big one in australia and its back claw type legs grabbed my finger and i screamed... shit!FUCk! and threw it cause it was just about to bite me lol
has any1 seen a brown redback spider? it has the red stripe but instead of it having black around it, it has brown. anyway they are fucking huge. with its legs spread out, it can be slightly bigger then a 50 cent coin!
Its easy if you have been doing it so long, i just know their behaviour. If you let a spider walk onto you, it won't feel threatened. Most spiders don't bite unless you squash them accidentally when in contact with your skin.
You know the funny thing is, is I would rather hold a Redback thean a White Tail or a Slater Spider or even a Large Brown Vagrant Spider. Gee is there a Spider You wouldn't hold?.
Haha, nice. The slater spider is ok and the white tail I pick them up and take them out of the house when my sister finds them, vagrant spider is non aggressive too but when I first caught one it managed to keep getting away lol. Spiders I wouldn't hold would probably be the brazilian wandering spider, and maybe the funnelweb I have read they are aggressive but haven't found out myself yet.
Haha, I have never seen the funnel web but I have a relative of the funnel web at the moment and its not that aggressive. I would have to see how it behaves first lol
Hi, haha yeah. The red back isnt that bad. I have another video to upload of another one soon from when I was in Australia.
Funnelweb... from looking at videos on youtube the funnelweb does look quite aggressive, but since I haven't seen one I still believe there is a little bit of an over reaction about these spiders. To me, they seem just a little bit more agressive than the NZ tunnelweb, this is just my opinion at the moment but will probably change when I find a funnelweb. I would hold a...
funnelweb spider if I had it for a little while and knew what its temperment was like. I would be much more afraid of a funnelweb though, they are much more agressive by the look of youtube videos
My advice to you. DON'T try and hold a Funnel Web (especially a Sydney Funnel Web which i believe that was the one you were talking about) cos they are the most aggressive spiders and will strike at anything that they feel threatened to! Also they have one of the most toxic venom found in the animal kingdom and they are capable enough to kill you in 15 minutes. Sorry to bring that up
Yeah haha, funnel web is much worse... red back is a very nice spider and is really not a threat unless its squashed in your clothes, more deadly to elderly and infants.
I had enough trouble with a spider I have now which is a black tunnelweb which is related to the funnelweb spider, it ws fast and I had trouble trying to catch it in my room lol. I now have it back in its enclosure :D
Yes that's true. Red Backs don't attack unless threatened/hurt. Tunnelweb, i've never heard of them. Well at lease it's back in it's cage which is a good thing.
Just to let you know. Red Backs aren't as venomous as you think (like the video said). They only really make you (very) sick for a couple of days. I work with someone who has been bitten by one. He said that he was in pain (kinda sick) for a few days. And he said that the spider bite him twice (both times on the hand).
I put a mouse in a red back's web one time. The spider spent the entire day wrapping it up. By the time it was finished, it was much smaller, and you couldn't tell it was a mouse. I wonder if they can do toads as well?
Lol, a small toad... possible but not fully grown one though. The red back would have sucked the mouse dry... hence the dissfiguration lol. Lucky the mouse didn't get a chance to eat the redback :D
Where did You find it, there aren't any in NZ anymore are there? I have held many Spiders but I would never hold that, although I would probably rather hold that than a Banded Tunnelweb Haha, one of the only ones I avoid holding.
Not sure if they have been eradicated from NZ or not... But this was in Melbourne Australia. The equivalent of this in New Zealand is the Katipo, usually found on beaches in driftwood up somewhere... I have never seen one though.
If you like snakes and lizards ive got those videos too if you didnt see them

@spiderpug I live in East Tennessee and my spider friend is a beautiful Southern Black Widow. I keep her in a modified plastic container with a screw on lid. I have air holes drilled into the top and in 3 horizontal rows along the sides. The substrate is a soil/sand combo with pieces of bark and moss. There are sticks for climbing and web-building. I water her every other day and feed her wild-caught insects once a week. She is very healthy and has molted once in the month that I've had her.
RaffeTheExplorer 1 year ago
@RaffeTheExplorer Very nice. Do you get nice snakes in Tennessee? Good job with the spider! Looks like you know exactly what your doing.
spiderpug 1 year ago
@spiderpug We do indeed have a good variety of snakes. The largest is the Black Rat Snake which can get 7 ft long although 5 to 6 ft is much more common. We have water snakes, garter snakes, many small woodland species such as the Worm Snake and Ringneck Snake. The Eastern Hognose Snake can be found but isn't common as well as 3 species of King Snakes plus a few others. The venomous species include Copperheads and Timber Rattlesnakes. Most can be found with a little searching and patience.
RaffeTheExplorer 1 year ago
These are species found in my immediate area which is in East Tennessee. The terrain is mountainous with generally fast moving streams. Other areas of the state have a more diverse selection of species such as Cottonmouths and Coachwhip Snakes in the southern and western areas. Pygmy Rattlesnakes can be found in some areas as well. Other statewide species include Racers, Green Snakes and Pine Snakes in localized populations where conditions are favorable. Generally speaking, a good variety.
RaffeTheExplorer 1 year ago
@RaffeTheExplorer I live in East Tennessee also, and I had one of those in my building last year. Saw one a few weeks ago in the building again and killed it. It had an egg sack which I burnt with a torch. I don't want them multiplying in my vicinity and risk me or my family getting bitten and possibly killed. Normally if I see one in another location far from humanity I will leave them be. As for snakes the only poisonous/venomous ones here are the rattlesnake and the copperhead.
sqhschief 1 year ago
@sqhschief Yeah, I felt I had a choice since I know something about spiders to keep her rather than kill her. Well, I take that back, I could have re-located her too but I found her to be a fascinating animal to observe. The other venomous species I mentioned were from other parts of the state. The post you read was the second half of a larger post I'd made. You are right about rattlesnakes and copperhead being the only ones in our immediate area. Have a great day.
RaffeTheExplorer 1 year ago
@RaffeTheExplorer Yes they are fascinating. I tried to keep one for awhile, but she died one day, and I have no idea why.

DaLiSpY10 1 year ago
@DaLiSpY10 Spiders don't just bite you for no reason, and no I cant 'predict', but i can notice the behaviour in spiders. I have done this 4 times already
spiderpug 1 year ago
@spiderpug
How about being handled?
Isnt that a "reason"
The spider has the brain of a spider, but you............Seriously you are VERY silly!

@DrHydroman Well I am a New Zealander, but I like both countries as much as each other! :D
spiderpug 1 year ago
@DrHydroman

RB bites are really not that bad.

is it a male because they cant bite you there too weak to penetrate human skin if its female your so lucky :)
cbbbtc 1 year ago
@cbbbtc Males are not dangerous to humans. And yes this is a female... I'm not lucky, I just know what I'm doing. I've done it 4 times already, twice with a heavily pregnant female. Don't worry, I know what I am doing :D
spiderpug 1 year ago
@spiderpug also its doesent matter if u get bitten u no that it can take hours or days for the venom to take effect at all so if u get bitten whille recording just leave the camera on or off then go to a medical centre k and make sure the spider dosent get out its so creepy haveing one of those things crwal on u once a FUNNEL WEB crwaled on my foot i was so scared until it walkd off and i got a toliet plunger put it under it then started to push up and down im so lucky :)

@MrAirgunlover but it all depends on alot of things... how old you are, how big or small you are, how fit you are, how much venom got into you, if your more allergic than other people. Not very nice if you do get bit though
spiderpug 1 year ago
@spiderpug, people might think that just by putting your hand out so they can crawl out to you, they will bite you!, i mean, they are not THAT aggressive, lets say you put let a normal moth, crawl onto your hands, flying away is its speciality, of protecting its self, its the same with dangerous spiders, don't freak out just stay still, dude, i totally understand!

Dude spiders just freak me out haha. How would you handle the funnel web because every video i see of the funnel web its showing off its fangs at the camera :S and running around looking pissed.
sweet150 1 year ago
Haha, see the thing is. I have noticed alot of people think that animals and insects are "out to get them" sort of thing... not true. Alot of people believe ridiculous stories of funnelwebs chasing them, snakes chasing them to kill them, it is just not true and often a common response people have to animals like these with the horrible reputation they have.
Funnelwebs are quite snappy, BUT...
spiderpug 1 year ago
BUT-BUT-BUT! lol Only when harrassed, like a stick being poked at them or disturbing them by shaking them in a container. Thats why I dont just pick spiders up by grabing them, I give them a choice to walk onto my hand by placing my hand infront of them. Most spiders are basically blind, so they don't have the ability to see the predator clearly and chase people.
I hope this is helps :D
spiderpug 1 year ago
would u handle a brown recluse?
ITRIEDEL 1 year ago
Yes, they are not aggresive. Even the funnelweb is not that bad... I'd still be nervous, but people exagerrate

@spiderpug
ur my hero! haha... I use to have a tarantula i found at the park and a pet black widow and i would always hold the tarantula cause it never snapped at me (even at one point took at nap with it on my chest) but id never touch the black widow... just the thought of maybe one day being like "im bite this fool" scared me haha...
ITRIEDEL 1 year ago
haha, nice!
You will find most spiders don't bite for no reason. either its being mishandled or being squashed against the skin.
spiderpug 1 year ago
Would you handle a 20cm Giant New Zealand centipede?
UltimateGuitarist17 2 years ago
Ah, maybe. centipedes are so unpredictable and they pretty much bite anything they see. I grabbed a big one in australia and its back claw type legs grabbed my finger and i screamed... shit!FUCk! and threw it cause it was just about to bite me lol

Yes I have, The female Red back usually gets large after eating a lot, stretching and appearing to look brown.

skitzo6530 2 years ago
Fascinating...How do you handle spiders without getting bitten?
bookoffairies 2 years ago
Its easy if you have been doing it so long, i just know their behaviour. If you let a spider walk onto you, it won't feel threatened. Most spiders don't bite unless you squash them accidentally when in contact with your skin.
spiderpug 2 years ago
thats a huge red back

You know the funny thing is, is I would rather hold a Redback thean a White Tail or a Slater Spider or even a Large Brown Vagrant Spider. Gee is there a Spider You wouldn't hold?.
BumbleBrook 2 years ago
Haha, nice. The slater spider is ok and the white tail I pick them up and take them out of the house when my sister finds them, vagrant spider is non aggressive too but when I first caught one it managed to keep getting away lol. Spiders I wouldn't hold would probably be the brazilian wandering spider, and maybe the funnelweb I have read they are aggressive but haven't found out myself yet.
spiderpug 2 years ago
well too bad, cuz i've got one and i handle it all the time, it bit one time but i have the antvenom, nothing happened, just pain

would you do this with a funnell webb?
ausmuller 2 years ago
Hi, haha yeah. The red back isnt that bad. I have another video to upload of another one soon from when I was in Australia.
Funnelweb... from looking at videos on youtube the funnelweb does look quite aggressive, but since I haven't seen one I still believe there is a little bit of an over reaction about these spiders. To me, they seem just a little bit more agressive than the NZ tunnelweb, this is just my opinion at the moment but will probably change when I find a funnelweb. I would hold a...
spiderpug 2 years ago
funnelweb spider if I had it for a little while and knew what its temperment was like. I would be much more afraid of a funnelweb though, they are much more agressive by the look of youtube videos
spiderpug 2 years ago
My advice to you. DON'T try and hold a Funnel Web (especially a Sydney Funnel Web which i believe that was the one you were talking about) cos they are the most aggressive spiders and will strike at anything that they feel threatened to! Also they have one of the most toxic venom found in the animal kingdom and they are capable enough to kill you in 15 minutes. Sorry to bring that up
johnmilo117 2 years ago
Yeah haha, funnel web is much worse... red back is a very nice spider and is really not a threat unless its squashed in your clothes, more deadly to elderly and infants.
I had enough trouble with a spider I have now which is a black tunnelweb which is related to the funnelweb spider, it ws fast and I had trouble trying to catch it in my room lol. I now have it back in its enclosure :D
spiderpug 2 years ago
Yes that's true. Red Backs don't attack unless threatened/hurt. Tunnelweb, i've never heard of them. Well at lease it's back in it's cage which is a good thing.
johnmilo117 2 years ago
Haha, yea.. very common spider
spiderpug 2 years ago
Just to let you know. Red Backs aren't as venomous as you think (like the video said). They only really make you (very) sick for a couple of days. I work with someone who has been bitten by one. He said that he was in pain (kinda sick) for a few days. And he said that the spider bite him twice (both times on the hand).
johnmilo117 2 years ago
Once i was taking the mail out of the mail box, i turned it over and there were 3 of them on there. OMFG!
22Spartans 2 years ago
I put a mouse in a red back's web one time. The spider spent the entire day wrapping it up. By the time it was finished, it was much smaller, and you couldn't tell it was a mouse. I wonder if they can do toads as well?
mictian101 2 years ago
Lol, a small toad... possible but not fully grown one though. The red back would have sucked the mouse dry... hence the dissfiguration lol. Lucky the mouse didn't get a chance to eat the redback :D
spiderpug 2 years ago
Where did You find it, there aren't any in NZ anymore are there? I have held many Spiders but I would never hold that, although I would probably rather hold that than a Banded Tunnelweb Haha, one of the only ones I avoid holding.
BumbleBrook 2 years ago
Not sure if they have been eradicated from NZ or not... But this was in Melbourne Australia. The equivalent of this in New Zealand is the Katipo, usually found on beaches in driftwood up somewhere... I have never seen one though.
If you like snakes and lizards ive got those videos too if you didnt see them
