  • This is actually a soft version of what actually happened to Sylvia. And that's the worst part...

  • Comment removed

  • every time i see this movie i cry, i can't imagine how the real sylvia must have suffered with that horrible and nasty woman

  • sutch a sad movie, but it's good.

  • @Sammie056 the girl next door is disgusting and perverted this is too, except it's sad...this one is more emotional, the girl next door is just a disgusting perverse film......in other words, the girl next door is 10 times worse

  • remake of Auror l'enfant martyr thank you very much a play made about a true story turned into a bad movie and there was a very good remake of it in 2001 ...that story is almost exactly the same :O

  • @CommanderSieger Spoiler man, I was just coming here for the trailer :(

  • Comment removed

  • I got really sick and mad watching the girl next door. Is this one even nearly as bad? Like, how graphic is it?

  • @Sammie056 its way worse

  • @Sammie056 if you got sick then dont watch these type of movies, simple as that.

  • The movie is rated R

  • @Sammie056 no, it's pg-13. The Girl Next Door is R

  • i want to pass a message about this type of abuse to my school but i really need to know if this movie is PG-13 or R rated. someone please message me back

  • @ccanime36 It's pg-13. I have it

  • Comment removed

  • Rest in peace sylvia

  • this movie made me cry! and i had nightmares after watching this

  • I like Ellen Page, but I have to ask : what is the deal with her and torture ? She has been in both Hard Candy and An American Crime, both movies with a lot of torture in them.

  • @Contakum Well you also have to think, say some movie producer saw her in one movie and though she was really good at being a weird torturer and offered for her to be in his or her new movie.

  • @Contakum I think they might have just been movies that caught her attention. In Juno there was no torture. So I think just projects that catch her attention she goes after.

  • songs of the trailer?

  • Im lost I haven't seen this movie or read the story but isn't The Girl Next Door the same as An American Crime? I just dont feel like goggle it now, haven't seen either movie so

  • @CantyFly yeahh they both based off the same crime

  • I read that The Girl Next Door added extra sexual stuff that never happened..

  • While this movie is good, it doesn't portray this tragic event nearly as well as "The Girl Next Door".

  • @Jackel8248 yes the girl next door makes me cry everytime and i only saw it twice i swear i cried throughout the whole movie. i wonder what happened to the boy? after i never hear about him when i look up sylvia likens death. rip:(

  • @GirlsReyna

Well, the boy didn't actually exist, that was Jack Ketchum's addition to make the story easier to make a movie about.

  • @Jackel8248 thats too bad i loved his part in the movie i swear he made me cry everytime he looked at her, no joke but i really wished she had someone like him while she was going through all that cause in reality she was really alone throughout that whole situation its rlly sad:(

  • I really hope those people -- the mother, her children, their neighbors and friends even those little kids who did sick, cruel, painful, disgusting things to Sylvia will suffer forever of their lives. I cannot even describe how angry I am at them. I want them all to suffer 10x worse than Sylvia suffered. It makes me sick to my stomach every time I think what they did to an innocent girl like Sylvia. I hope their conscience will haunt them forever even after their deaths.

  • Don't you hate it when Gertrude finds out that you're spreading lies and rumors about her family? :O

  • @nikkijaneallison Getrude is dead. So is Sylvia and Jenny and their mother. Paula, however, is still alive. I heard she lives on a farm in Iowa.

  • This Moviee Is So Sad.Its A Really Good Movie Tho.

  • I honestly don't like scary movies, but this movie couldve been scarier...but, overall, it was a VERY good one!!!

  • This movie is a must see.- In my opinion it is one of the best movies ever cause it discribes how sick is society. We feel shocked by this cruelty but at the same time we keep our eyes and mouths shut.- It a true story and i bet it is not the only one that exists...

  • How can anyone just stand there and let a child be abused like that, "best not to get involved." if i hear screaming like blood screams and i knew the person next door had kids, I would so be picking up the phone and calling the police.

  • @BloodDiamond32 you obviously do since you took the time to read it.

  • One word that can describe this movie: Sick. Horribly sick.

  • @tyrese3745 Why do you say "sick" I haven't seen it. Is it because it is bad or because the story itself is sic, sorry I'm just curious. It is such a sad story, it makes me so mad to know that not a single person spent life in prison for what was done to that girl.

  • @philliem0812 The true story, of course. Of what that god-awful sorry excuse for a woman did to Sylvia Likens. I saw the film. It was horribly sick of what that woman did to that girl.

  • @philliem0812 Because the Woman did horrible things to the girl. Look up Sylvia Likens, and find out more. Very sad.

  • @tswiftshipper Oh yes, I know. It's hard to even begin to imagine isn't it? I was just inquiring if the acting, directing and film itself was bad or if it's the story that's bad.

  • 2:00 he i saw that girl from Lie to Mr!

  • I haven't seen this film and I'm guessing that even the best of depictions of the events would fall short of the experiences because the actual events were simply too severe to depict on film and any attempt would be washed and leads to some questions like "who would be sick enough to make a film about this and who would partake in it?"

But if there is any actress who could tackle a role like this I guess I'd have to say Ellen Page before anyone else.

  • God, I remember I saw this film last year... Ii was a coincidence, actually. I cried for weeks about it. I can't imagine how can a person do that to another... As everyone said, while I was watching the movie I was so frustrated I couldn't do anything... I really wished I could have done something to help her.

  • @andreatm16 Me too & then when I looked it up on the internet & read what really happened I couldnt do anything but cry all over again, what they showed in the movie was nothing compared to what really happened. Im not a bad person but I am glad that Gertrude died.

  • @favorities2 Yeah! I did too D: I think I didn't cry for a movie so much. And what I read just shocked me even more... Can't imagina how people like Gertrude can exist... and yeah, I'm glad she died too. And the horrible thing is that she actually got to get out of jail ¬¬

  • I agree with (danna and susi comment) i could not even finish the video in my class after the branding part like i had no control of wha was happening to silvia and i wanted to help her and i couldnt! and it just makes me think about all the children this is happening to and no one knows.

  • while watching this movie, i was so mad and wished i could just go into the tv and help her, its just sad to know that people like Gertrude exist. things like this could be happening right now & we might not even know it. i honestly dont know how people can be so fucked up.

  • This movie made me cry so much. And for days afterward, just thinking about it made me cry all over.

  • @colafroggy Same! Oh gosh, I was a mess, took me hours to finish, I rang my sister in such a mess crying and my Dad (who's a child psychiatrist and deals with different issues including abuse) I had a massive chat to the next day after Mum...about why people would do this...specially cause it's not just one deranged sick woman but the neighbourhood kids, it is so evil. That poor little girl. That poor, poor little girl. Hopefully she's in Heaven now.

  • @MissSugarbeex Yeah. Mostly I would cry, and then I would so mad. How could somebody do that?! And then I'd cry again. Sheesh.

  • Its such a sad movie

  • i fucking hate the world for that shit =( after this i'm shure, that god doesn't exist!

  • This is terrible thisbitch should get the hell beat out of her

  • Possibly the most disturbing movie I've ever seen.

  • That movie was fucked up..Gertrude was a fucking pussy bitch!

  • Gertrude is a fucking bitch

  • Just watched this movie, it was insanely sad yet very good. The acting was great, although they sugar coated it a lot.

  • I just found the story on a website and I saw that the story was made a movie. Fuck. We people are afraid of things, but we are the worst thing ever. Come on, Lion doesn't torture a lion, shark doesn't torture a shark. Only humans hate each other for no reason. And don't even think about it to tell me I'm wrong. More or less everybody has evil inside.

  • @BluesManAris

i guess you could call it torture when there are cannibalistic lions who eat the cubs of another lion to demonstrate dominance. that said, you're right about humans being hostile, but i don't believe people are inherently evil; i just think that there are people who make bad decisions. as for the movie, i may just give this one a try. hopefully its raw enough to have the same impact on me as it did for many others.

  • @BluesManAris well, u are wrong, chimps and monkeys rape and/or torture each other all the time, but they are the closest thing to humans in terms of intelligence so its not surprising

  • why dosn sylvia say somethin she just goes um um this sick prick are fuking lucky i haven't lived i their time i don't care who the fuck she or he is this movie and the girl next door are very similar if someone dear to do that to girl in front of my eyes even if i don't know that girl they would be kissing the wall they hit her il double the hit sick cunts ppl these days understand the fist more than language fucking mental sick ppl how can they even do that + that paola is a bitch fking wisel

  • @alex252525100 were you drunk when you wrote this? just saying; to me it didnt make sense 0.o

  • @babiilaurenn97 yeah man i was a bit wacked haha

  • @alex252525100 ahh lmfao!

  • RIP Sylvia Likens

  • this is literally the saddest movie/crime i have ever seen. this movie gives me chills, and not the good kind, it is so intense. and so sad. and a true story. i actually just saw the real story on the investigation channel not to long ago. breaks my heart.

  • this is really crazy.. I cant believe its a true story. the whole fucking town is insane cause no one gives a shit about that innocent child. this movie is really uncomfortable to watch... but u gotta watch it. RIP Sylvia Likens

  • @suppvee Why compare stories? Ridiculous...I would never say something like this person's story was "way worse"....who cares....it is terrible when anyone has to suffer like that...

  • Sad movie :(

  • I can't believe that woman didn't get the death penalty for this.

  • and how can a 20 year old look so young?

  • what i dont get is the other kids. how horrible can even young human beings be?

  • even though this story is terrible, i must say the actors did an amazing job, especially Ellen and Catherine!

  • i saw the movie, bravo to the director Tommy O'Haver, that was a dynamic movie

  • I cnt imagine the pain she went thru bless her soul r.i.p sylvia likens

  • @suppvee i know.... its hard to believe that someone could be so cruel to such innocent teenagers whos lives hadn't even begun yet

  • CHINESE

  • noe who junko furuta was?? that crime is more worse and terrifying! i know its hard to believe there is something worse then this but there is

  • This bitch Gertrude Baniszewski just walked out of prison in 1985 after her "parole". It revolts me so much.

  • Humans are the worst creatures on this world. I cant believe that this is a real story. Horrible.

  • I cried SO much during this movie. :'(

  • @yowutzup90 me too

  • i m tuffest of the tuff...i have faced everything tht a man can bear n face. This made me cry..........................still crying while i m writing.Injustice occurs when people dont speak.. worse remain silent.I swear i will never remain silent over injustice done to others! i Swear i have loved n will love ..........LUV to Everyone from me.

  • is this movie any good?

  • @zherous2 perfect!

  • This movie is SO sad.. I watched it yesterday... heartbreaking movie.

  • @MsEagle51 I Knoe I Cryed :(

  • Sick Family

  • Such a well done and underrated movie.

  • This the sadest movie i have ever seen! Sylvia did not deserve any of this! Gertrude is a Bitch from Hell!

  • @NeverShoutKeeley She Was A Good Person Screw Gertrude Ugly Butt not u her

  • I have just told the story of Sylvia Likens below. If you want to know what really happened you will have to start reading from the bottom. I have never seen this movie. But from reading the comments I saw a lot of false info. She was never raped, but she was forced to eat her vomit and feces. I damn all of the people that was part of her torture to hell. And all of the people that thought it was fit to let it happen. Just thought I would get the real story out there.

  • @lindsey0870 i cried when i saw the movie :(

  • @lindsey0870 when they get the bottle nd she says i cant... what does she mean i dont get the part

  • @MissFakker to put it up her private part.

    it's so sad.

  • @1timedealgirl omg!!! :(

  • @MissFakker Yeah it's horrible :(

To read the whole story you just go to wikipedia and look up the poor girl's name.

  • @lindsey0870 most of the stuff that you said wasnt true. i watched the movie a little while ago and a lot of these things didnt happen. Gertrude didnt tell them she was kicked out. she sed that she was in juvenile detention. she wasnt forced to get undressed and she didnt die in a bathtub. her parents werent divorced. they were just away building a new fair. you have to watch the movie and get your facts right.

  • @TheSaxxyGurl No, she got it right. What Lindsey was saying is that the movie didn't portray exactly what happened, therefore the facts you're disputing happened in the movie, not real life. If you go to trutv.com and search for Sylvie Likens you can read about the actual torture murder. The movie was very good and got across the basic story and point, but it wasn't exactly what happened.

  • "No man will ever want to be with you ever again, with that on you forever" It is reported that Sylvia told her sister Jenny that she could tell that she was going to be dead soon and that she could feel it. One day Gertrude brought Sylvia upstairs to bathe her and she died sitting in the bathtub. She was never raped. She was only beaten senseless everyday, and was treated like a wild animal. Many people would ask where Sylvia was and Gertrude told them that she had been kicked out

  • This severe "punishment" went on for 3 months. In Sylvia's last days Gertrude went down to the basement with Paulas boyfriend (I can't remember his name) and burned the tip of a needle. She used the needle to burn the words "I'M A PROSTITUE AND PRUD OF IT!" into her stomach. The kids thought that it would be fun to do the same. They burned a 3 into her chest. (The reason for this is unknown) Gertrude returned to the basement when the children were finished and told Sylvia

  • she had found for spare change. Gertrude thought that she was lieing. So for her next punishment she was sent to the basement and was forced to get undressed. Gertrude had her children round up the kids in the neighborhood to come to the basement to weatch what was about to happen. Sylvia was forced to preform a strip tease for the children in the basement. Gertrude handed her an empty bottle when she was finished and she was forced to insented the bottle into her vagina.

  • and other neighboor hood kids who thought she was a whore. The kids thought that a proper punishment for her was to banish her to the basement with the dog, because they thought if you were a bed wetter you were not fit to be a human. She was only fed water and crackers, and Gertrude would bathe her in scalding water. When Sylvia came home with a lot of candy Gertrude asked her where she had found it. Sylvia told her that she got the money to buy the candy by recycling empty bottles

  • she was over weight. Sylvia went to school and told some people about what she had heard and Paula got the reputation of a whore and went home to tell her mother about it. Gertrude did not like this news at all and began to beat Sylvia senseless and started to tell the children in the neighborhood rumors about her that were untrue. The kids began to come to Gertrudes house to beat Syvia and attack her. One night Sylvia wet the bed because she had been repeatedly kicked in the crotch by Gertrude

  • you guys are getting the story all wrong. she was never raped.

she was dropped off by her father (her parents were divorced and her mother was in jail) the father failed to look around the house that reportedly only had one spoon and no stove. he had no where else to turn. i guess when his checks started to come late Gertrude (who boarded them) became angry and would beat Sylvia and Jenny with paddles and belts. One of Gertrudes daughters named Paula was pregnant but no one could tell because

  • How can anyone be so cruel to another human being. It is appalling what people do. So sad. RIP <3

  • It didn't made me cry this movie.... but it made me fill with rage and if it were real... i'd rip that mothers head off and fuck her asshole... THAT BE JUSTICE SHE DESERVES

  • I watched this today.... My hearts broken, i feel wounded. What a sad story. R.I.P Sylvia Likens...

  • R.I.P Sylvia Likens :'(

  • Gertrude was my Great Aunt...no joke. :(

  • she is a fucking bitch !!

  • @thedarkriver1 ARE YOU SERIOUS???!! She is the most evil fucking bitch in history!!!

  • @thedarkriver1 Gertrude was your great aunt ? Seriously ? No wonder you are the *dark* river.

  • @thedarkriver1 Wow... I don't know what to say... if anyone insults you for that, tell them that you're not the same as her. :)

  • This movie made me cry lol fuckin people these days disgust me! Why can't we all just be nice to each other?! why the fuck do we need violence?

  • @TormentTimmy it's anout a real story that happened in 1965, not these days; and it's watered down, the real story was more frightening.

  • btw The girl next door wich is the same movie as this one is wayyy more sadder because of the otehr parts they missed in this movie :(

  • apparently they made her eat her own feces. torture beyond imagination.

  • @9189erbear1195 yea they did not show all the things that happened to her she was raped they made her eat her own feces and alot of other shit and the lady really had all boys not girls The girl next door is the same movie but got more parts than this one it shows her eating her feces and get raped and other shit

  • @blazzworstofficial believable? this one was closer to the truth than the girl next door.

  • @mikky107 well an america crime was made first they missed alot of parts in an america crime in the girl next door they show all the parts they missed in this movie it was really all boys who was rapeing her alot sticking bottles up her ass

  • @blazzworstofficial it doesn't need to be believable, its a true story

  • Their whole family should be sentenced to 1000 years of the worst imaginable torturing.

I've been watching many horror movs, but not a single one disturbed me as much as this movie .. im a bit out of words, this was to much for me ..

  • Just finished watching "An American Crime" , which is a little better than "The Girl Next Door" . T.G.N.D. showed the abuse that happened to Sylvia Likens in very graphic detail to produce its "shock value" and to disturb you. Fact is the story of Sylvia doesn't require the camera to be centered on the violence to shock you. Simply explaining what happened to her will disturb you, and make you sick to your stomach. ((NOT TO MENTION ITS GOT MY GIRL ELLEN PAGE <3 )) ...

  • 00:23

  • whoever said there is no ellen page, yes there is. she plays syvlia. definately

  • i know this sounds weird, but paula, baniszewski's eldest daughter, sort of started the whole thing, because if she hadnt put ideas into gertrude's head that sylvia was a bad person, and needed to be punished, baniszewski might not have used abuse to punish syvlia everytime thereafter. that does not excuse baniszewski's treatment of syvlia obviously

  • oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh! i can't believe this really happened! gertrude baniszewski was found guilty of first degree murder in 1965 and sentenced to life imprisonment, but appealed against her life sentence in 1985, and was released. she died aged 60 in 1990 after going abroad and catching a fatal disease. Sylvia's sister, jenny likens, and baniszewski's children are still alive though, and you can watch interviews with them & baniszewski's trial, appeal & release.

  • this is why ppl dont leave their kids with a stranger! Like seriously!

Poor Sylvia, i hope Gertrude burns in hell for all eternity

  • @14ILOVECHRISTIAN agreed, it makes me sick to think that this story is real, it blows my mind that people can be that fucked in the head!!

  • is that james franco?

  • @69Cortesz

    Yes.

  • @cacahut there is no ellen page!!!!

  • @zeuslives11 sure there is. she plays sylvia

  • this movie made me so mad!!! for one the neighbours kept saying "we better stay outa it" for two her sister was to chicken shit to call the cops. and for three that one part were the stupid fagit 8year old kid keeps sticking cigerets into her arm and saying to his friends "its Ok Ma moma told me im aloud to"

  • what song is playing in the beginning? can you give the name and the artist?

  • more grotesque than girl next door?

  • cold story watched it as the girl next door cold movie she didnt have to welled her vagina together omfg!

  • Comment removed

  • Both are great and fucking shocking. I presonally prefer "american crime". It's fucking shocking, i could'nt believe that insane bitch got out of prison. She, and everyone who even heard about that case and didn't report should fucking DIE.

  • If u people want to know if this movie is worth seeing then yes! But I recommend u to watch the girl next door instead. Its the same story but with different actors. Girl next door is much better than this.

  • yes cookie did love the beatles!!!!

  • "Best to just stay out of it" DAMN IT MAN WHATS WRONG WITH YOU

  • @crashedbclowns People like that irritate the hell out of me. You hear someone screaming and you do nothing.

  • @YankeeGirl226 Dude, 99.9 percent of the people do nothing because the people who do something are fucked... they are always punished for doin good. Believe me i know what im talking about. Its fear that holds us down. And when it come to it (you might not know it yet) you wont do shit either. It might even be possible you get infected by the hate and youll help ssatan with his job. There is only 1 cure against evil like this.... Torture the people whoi do this t death while the world watches..

  • this is one horrible movie but it was a gd 1

  • It really does seem to have the same story as "the girl next door"

  • @gumble23 It is the same story. Jack Ketchum wrote "The girl next door" which was based on sylvia's story. This film is also based on her story.

  • @Amandah86 oh, okey :)

  • By far the most disturbing movie I have ever seen in my WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE

  • Nobody in the world could act Sylvia like Ellen Page.... definitely

  • @daviddedu who is ellen page????

  • @zeuslives11 It's Sylvia from this movie...

  • lol im stupid so i dont get it can some one explain to me please :)

  • @orochimaruluver10 this movie tells the story of sylvia likens's murder. her parents were carnaval workers and let sylvia and her sister jenny in charge of a woman called gertrude banizewsi but she, her kids and the neighbors tortured sylvia in many ways until she died, it's a sad movie

  • To me this story proves that doing nothing to help a child who you know is suffering makes you as guilty as the culprit committing the crime! The part where the neighbours here her screaming and do nothing to help makes me physically sick.

  • omq ihave been lookinq for this movie EVERYWHERE!! glad ifound it. ihave seen this movie three times nd still cant believe someone would do this...smh!

  • show to the world what real american fuckers are like!!!! exellent film!

  • @athenaptr

That's Not the fucking point you godamn wanker. It could of happen anywhere.

  • Pretty good movie!very dramatic ,you just want to get into the movie and help the girl

  • OMG! I've just seen this movie. Seeing Ellen Page like this made cry a lot.

There's only one good part: Ellen Page looked so beatiful in this movie, like in every movie she ever acted.

  • @daviddedu but, was the movie good....after watching the trailer, i wanna see it, but dont wanna waste my time just because ellen page is good. Is the movie worth seeing?
