electric engians over heat. but diesel and breathing diesel smoke can kill. try standing over bridge and breath locomotive exaust every day see how you live. but they can make more powerfull electric locomotive
The E60 electric locomotive would look like a diesel, only without the pantograph and its power boxes on top of its roof. Tell me something is the F40PH diesel larger than the AEM-7 Electric? I'm just asking.
One pollutes the air (diesel), one uses the expensive gas (diesel), one is louder (diesel), one usually moves a LOT slower than some others (diesel), one might not be able to pull as much (electric).
in a since they are. The E60 is nothin more than a GE C36-7, regeared for 125mph running with 6000hp. Instead of having overhead cat wires and pantographs for power, diesel locomotives use a diesel engine and generator for power. Both electric locomotives and diesel locomotives have traction motors.
Well by the sounds of his comment it certainly doesnt sound like he loves the USA much either. Please dont respond back. It would end up sounding useless like your comment you just left.THANK YOU
..only the French, Spanish, British, Italian, German and Portuguese trains are better, faster and more efficient. Trust me, I'm American and I've travelled on all of those countries' trains. Europe will always kick our asses.
RIP E-60, although I would like to see a GG-1 (with or without PCB transformers) take on those silly AEM-7 "toaster" engines. At least the GG-1 had the motor power to even rip up the trackage if the brakes were left on.
Unfortunately, just about everybody that counts has faster trains than America. :-( Most of Europe (especially France's TGV and Germany's ICE), Taiwan's HSR, Korea's KTX, and China's CRH and MagLev, are all faster than Acela. In Japan, in fact, not only are the awesome Shinkansen trains faster, but many regular express trains can trounce the Acela.
Actually, faster is better for intercity rail infrastructure. There are arguments for slow, scenic trips on vacations and such, but to compete with airlines, trains need to be fast, comfortable and cheap.
Safer? Japan's shinkansen, the fastest large scale intercity transportation network on the planet, has operated for 40 years and carried 6 billion passengers without killing any of them. How, exactly, do you beat that for safety?
Japanese train on rails have a record of 452KM/h, japanese prototype(magnetic one) have a record of 581KM/h but not in comemrcial use.
French train who is used everydays have a record of 574.8KM/h and use rails. A train is on rails and the french one is still the fastest in the world.
the Clocker is the oldest Amtrak line. First train Amtrak ever ran with one of them there steam locomotives :3

they're about the same size and weight actually.

@cornrowcity it used to be diessel but they converted that locamotive into electric by taking out the engine and made them electrified

If you like those places more, then please move there. Its thinking like that is the reason why America or American railroads wont advance.

great piece of film, you get a real sence of power and speed. BUT the new frenchy TGV is even quicker?!!
mikemasey 4 years ago
Even the old TGV (1960's design) was faster (319mph to the Acela's estimated top speed of 220mph)

The fastest is the velaro in spain, and in 2009 it will be the AGV in France with 360KM/h and in the next years 400KM/h
houlala16 3 years ago
HAHAHAAH. Think about the Japanese train that is THE fastest in the word going 500 something kmph.

Ahhhhh but you did not say in commercial use. you said GENERALLY said the fastest. Next time, say "commercial use".

Yeah but in France, Germany, UK, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Taiwan, Korea and Japan it is.
