hehe i've wet forged at times i should not have and scared visitors to the bathroom. He was doing it to be a joker as all trademen are. But putting a film of water on your anvil and dipping your hammer face in water and forging like that is called wet forging. Something that the japanese swordsmiths have been doing for centuries, not only to i forge most of my blades that way also alot of artsy work as well, it leaves a kinda shing and a very scale free surface.
i just spilled water on the top, there is no negative hollow, that anvil face is perfectly flat, one little bead of water does the trick. the iron has to be a bright yellow almost white.
I think one of those Chinese guys put a firecracker on top of that anvil. They steal our technology and secrets, and then they build crapy products and off load them to the U.S. where we are too stupid to realize that we are giving away our economy just to pay cheap prices for cheap crap...that's what I think happened here.
no, there was a bit of a negative on the anvil face that was filled with water, piece was heated to almost burning and then placed just above the water and struck with a strong blow........BOOOOOM! scared the shit out of the entire factory in Beijing that was filled with 400 chinamen
I used to do that right before I folded my Damascus.
It blows any scale or crap right off the steel, and it is loud.
