@videosarchive hey have u g0ne mad?? fuck man if lewis and bruce lee would have fought than i m sure lewis would have fallen on ground with lee's kick every 1 knows how fast lee was...
@pornpan96 Bruce Lee taught Joe Lewis his way of Martial Arts and philosophy. Joe Lewis had great respect for Bruce Lee and used his techniques...the same goes with Chuck Norris and other martial arts greats of the era.
@videosarchive Not true. Joe already had his skills before Bruce came into the picture. They did spar together at one point. Lewis show Bruce some of his skills and Bruce return the gesture. The skills that Joe uses in the above vid or in his past fights are not JKD, or have anything to do with Bruce ALLEGED skills. Lewis would off defeated Bruce in a real fight. Even Chuck
hi, when i say this i dont me to be rude or offend at all but when i looked up joe lewis and who he fought all of his opponents seemed to b american in american competitions, but thats just on wikipedia. which may not be a reliable source, but usually is. i didnt see any japanese or eastern world oppponents. is that coz the infos not up or because he ddint fight them. is it like baseball calling it the "world" series but really its just the US series. did joe prove he was best in world????
joe lewis is a good fighter.. trained by sugar ray robinson and bruce lee himself! But I think it's not appropriate to compare him to modern day fighters because his moves are outdated already. But I am still impressed the way he fight in his matches..:D
I could only hope I'm a fraction of what he is when I hit 60 (I'm only 5 years behind lol!) He doesn't have anything to prove. He's done. He was a major player in the point tournament system who transitioned well into the full contact arena. He's a major part of US Martial Art history.
Tim and a number of you are wrapped just a little too tight. Get over yourselves. Fact is Joe was a really good fighter and nice guy, but there are many now that are just as good. His style is much like boxing with kicks. This idea that someone is almost sacred, or that no one has the right to disagree unless they've trained with him is ludicrous.
10th degree in America is about a 4th or 5th in the home country of most arts. still good, not the greatest. grow up.
im sorry guys 4 my remarks on joe lewis he is an amazing fighter i was just thinking 2 myself saying hes the greatest of all time is a big call there is a lot of unknown fighters out there who are strong as but my respected gos out 2 joe sorry 4 typing be for thinking peace out.
i had the honor of training with mr lewis at tracys in new york in 1972...... he almost knocked me out with a ridge hand...what an honor...pat seminario
Joe's the man. He's a natural fighter, and a tought bastard. (Master tough bastard, sir! heh, heh). Just watching the guy or hearing him speak for a minute is inspiring. He's one of those people who'll remain tough, strong, intelligent and determined 'till the day he drops. Long live Master Lewis.
I've trained with Joe Lewis several times. I use a more traditional style than he does because I am not a kickboxer with boxing gloves. That aside, I don't appreciate any negative comments directed at Master Lewis. He regularly gives of himself to the martial arts community. He is a jokester, and an all around nice guy. Not only that, the man is in his 60's and tough as nails. I'm telling you. He is fast and strong. He is a role model to us all. Thank you Joe Lewis for teaching us.
@njtr Humble thing to say about Joe. Even though i heard of him years ago, I never really seen his clips or being in action, like Bill Superfoot Wallace. Bill is my hero, but i look at Joe punch the bag. I bet he could drop a young person if he connected with him.
@rickames Thanks for the response. I've also had the pleasure/honor to train with Bill Wallace. He is another guy who still gives of himself, and one hell of a nice guy. In fact, Bill and Joe fought eachother in the 90's. Check it out. Its a real inspirational. They're friends. I have a VERY different style from them. I do traditional karate, for self defense ONLY, and I've used it. But I've never fought as many wars as Joe or Bill, so I listen to whatever they say. Respect. Osu.
@njtr Man i thought some jerk was about to be a smart A, because people tend to just talk trash. But thanks & it's good hearing postive comments. I talked with Bill once on the phone. His number was on the back of a magazine, first i spoke with his wife Kim. Then I took a second chance & actually spoke with him. He appeared in my dreams twice, maybe because i idolize him & wish i could kick & fight like him. I've already seen the two spar, they called it a tie. Bill has some awsome kicks. Later.
As i recall, Bruce Lee was impressed with Joe's fighting spirit and speed but thought that Mike Stone had potential to be a better all around martial artist. Too bad we don't have more footage of Mike Stone available on YouTube. Mike was not very impressed with the style of Joe or Superfoot or anyone else. He liked his own style, which involved more movement, dynamic footwork, leaping, combinations. Anyone know where some more Mike Stone footage is?
This guy was a regular tournament karate fighter and great champion there. He was then a kickboxer and a champion. He then trained with Bruce Lee who made him more devastating. Fact is, he's getting older and not as fast as he once was...like all people do. He's also exhausted in some of these clips. Fact is, he's done it and proved what he knows and does. Saying he would get raped in the ring is ridiculous.
There is no way in hell that he is the greatest karate fighter of all time there is japanies masters that would rape him in the ring i have trained in japan and hold a 3 degree black belt myself
the vast majority of japanese( note use of english spelling) karate masters are a useless shower of cunts at fighting. There are no good stand up fighters in japan except the kickboxer masato.
First Off Adam I am a 7th dan Black Belt I trained w/ Joe as well as having been his friend for many years. Even today hes faster than 90% of the fighters out there. His hand speed/power is awesome. Joe was considered the Greatest Karate Fighter of All time being refered to in the USA Style Karate Tourn of the 70 and 80s. It wasn't including old Masters like Oyama etc. Joe would be first peson to say hes not. But unless you have actually trained w/him then your words are based on nothing
And Adam if you are truly a Sandan in Karate training in Japan, u should be the last person saying the things u are. Joe is a registered 10th dan Kudan in Karate and that alone just out of pure respect for a GM, should have kept your from commenting, especially when its derrogatory. Im very surprised that a man trained to master Sandan ran would publically disrespect his teacher his rnk and his art by making such a disrespectful and unwarranted comment about a GM he has never even trained with.
No disrespect but he is no bruce lee but a legend he is
