I heard this song for the first time yesterday on 104.1 KXDD, our local country station. I can honestly say I think this is one of the best mother songs I have ever heard. It describes my relationship with my mom to a t. I love it.
My mom just died after a fast, hard battle of Cancer. On june 19th. Her funeral is on Sat July 9th. I got into my car otday and heard this song for the first time. Ya, that was a breakdown point. But it will keep me going in the future. She was so young, and I can only hope she left behind half of the things this song says.

Idol is really screwing Kristy over. She is getting zero royalties from Lauren's Like My Mother Does.. they didn't even ask her if they could release this as Lauren's single! Well Kristy didn't write it, so I don't think she would have gotten royalties anyhow. It was written by Nathan Chapman, Nicole Williams, and Liz Rose. So they would probably get the royalties. With songwriters, the more recorded versions available, the more money the receive. But maybe the singer does get some kind of pay even if he or she didn't write it. I think that's how i works, but I could be wrong though

I had never hear this song until Lauren sang it on American Idol. It brought me to tears! In my opinon she won! I have three daughters of my own. It reminds me of them and my own Mother. I had to know who sang this song originally. Kristy Lee Cook should be proud. Beautiful song.

No, this isn't 'Arrangement Idol,' but Randy ALWAYS points out when a contestant sounds so close to the original artist. Why not this time? Because they were pushing for Lauren to win.

@JasonLAFan The song scotty sang is I think by Adam Stanton... go to itunes and type in I Love You This Big and then scroll down to adam stanton.... I think he wrote the song... it was not scotty.... so stop dissing Lauren for stealing a song she never stole!

i like kristy's version just as much as i like lauren's...kristy lee cook was my bet during season 7...she was the only country singer and i thought she did amazing...the fact that she wrote this song made me like her even better...she was so humble and beautiful...she also sang anyway by the way

I had never hear this song until Lauren sang it on American Idol. It brought me to tears! In my opinon she won! I have three daughters of my own. It reminds me of them and my own Mother. I had to know who sang this song originally. Kristy Lee Cook should be proud. Beautiful song.

@kaorudono25 Not true. Lauren's meant a lot because her mom meant a lot. If someone choking up during a performance isn't genuine enough for you, you obviously don't know what a great performance is. Kristy sucked every week on AI and only got voted for because she was cute. Lauren deserved to be noticed for this song and I'm glad she has the chops to sing it

Lauren Alaina is probably the most likable Idol contestant ever, but Kristy Lee sings the song more clearly and powerfully than Lauren.

very good version of the song but laurens version is better what sets it apart is the tone of her voice "its much warmer with much more character" then this version listen to both versions back to back and you'll see what i'm talking about

Lauren sounds great on her version. Kristy Lee Cook sounds great on her version. But Lauren's sounds soooooo close to Kristy's. So why didn't we hear Randy saying that? No, this isn't 'Arrangement Idol,' but Randy ALWAYS points out when a contestant sounds so close to the original artist. Why not this time? Because they were pushing for Lauren to win.

Great the vid. The only thing is, the lyrics are incorrect in the chorus. Instead of "when I feel weak and I'm pretty", it's "when I feel weak and unpretty".

Beautiful as always. Still the same as when I first heard it. Stop with the better than stuff, only teenie-weenie idiots think this way. This is Kristy's song, she wrote it. I have Kristy's 2008 album "Why Wait" with this song in it. Lauren did an amazing cover of it.
