seems that with a 150lb+ person falling on you/towards you, you would just fall too, though its nice to believe you can catch or direct someones weight when theyre falling from a height, id like to see this before I believe it works :)
It's what you're supposed to do as a spotter in bouldering. The spotter isn't there to catch you, they're there to guide your head on the way down so you don't crack it off something. There's a crash mat on the ground below camera level that protects from the fall, but when you're more than a few meters off the ground, you don't want to come down head first, or bounce your head off the ground if you're off center of the mat.

you're not meant to catch them or direct their weight. you're supposed to help them fall correctly.
