  • Yeah Iarfhlaith is the cousin, some man for the sessions!

  • Nice.

  • Iarla Ó Lionaird is just incredible.

  • Cara sounds so like Kate Bush here!

  • iontach deas ar fad..do-chreidte.maith thú cara! dún geimhin abú!

  • P.S - Sharon Ní Bheoláin, táim i ngrá leat!

  • Love this song but cant help hear that wretched modernised Celtic Woman miming version when I hear it. Gura míle Celtic Woman you witches!

  • Why are you honouring a coward & drunkard that was all that Charles Stewart ever was?

This opportunist put the final death nail in all that the "Highlander" represented, and did so for his own ends, then to quote MacNeil:

"he ran like a rabbit doon the Glen, leaving better men than him to be butchered!"

He does not deserve this accolade! He was a disaster to the Highland Gael, & cost them everything for nothing!

I really hope Hell has a special place for his like!

  • Iarla O'Lionaird superb as usual,Cara Dillon can't sing.

  • @snoopy12464 - Ach what would ye know?! She's got a beautiful clear soprano voice - and just perfect for that track. I'm sure Iarla O Lionard wouldn't have graced the stage if he didn't think her up to the mark!

  • she looks pretty pregnant

  • His voice is perfection. She's not too shabby, either :)

  • @mothglitter He's fantastic, but then he's probably been singing that since he was knee high to a grasshopper! He's from Cúil Aodha, and anyone from there singing this would send shivers down your spine.

  • brilliant!!!

  • Cá bhfuil ár nGiolla anois?

  • @spraoi111 Who's the Giolla? Giolla is Irish for 'servant'!

  • @Sportymike Thats my point where is he....:) or she

  • @spraoi111

Tá an focal seo "guile". Is focal sean é, agus cialaíonn sé "darling" i mBéarla, nó rud cosúil leis sin.

  • @spraoi111 its clearlt ghille mear in the song! where'd you get giolla from thats a servant! the song is about charles who was the irish peoples gille mear! i.e lively lad

  • hi folks!! can any1 tell me where this fest is & what its called please??

  • @scotchmist1968 This was the Ryder Cup golf match in Ireland in 2006

  • wow shes so beautiful such a wonderfull singer

  • the video quality wasnt very good

  • fantastic.........

  • that is fantastic..........

  • Je ne comprends pas les paroles mais avec j'aime la mélodie.

    J'adore cette chanteuse...

  • Oh she's pregnant. I couldn't figure out why her coat looked so weird for the longest time.

  • Not as good as the Highland Sessions, but much better than the cartoon version done by Celtic Woman; thanks primarily to inclusion of O'Lionaird.

  • I love this song, though it is a different version than the one I'm used to, but it's still a good one.

  • that globe in the background was robbed by ucd students during rag week...ha ha

  • God I love Cara Dillon.

  • best version ever

  • Seal da rabhas im mhaighdean shéimh S anois im bhaintreach chaite thréith Mo chéile ag treabhadh na dtonn go tréan De bharr na gcnoc is imigéin Curfa Sé mo laoch mo Ghile Mear Sé mo Chaesar, Ghile Mear Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo Ghile Mear Bímse buan ar buairt gach ló Ag caoi go cruaidh s ag tuar na ndeór Mar scaoileadh uaim an buachaill beó S ná ríomhtar tuairisc uaidh, mo bhrón Curfa
  • I like to call her the "Irish Sissel" :) This is wonderful, so one thing should be clear: once the Olympic Games will be held in Ireland or Northern Ireland, she should get the job of singing a tune.

  • she should get the job of singin all the tunes. shes a classy girl

  • Nice voices !! Phalaïna

  • ta an amhran go halaiin agus ta na hamhrani go deas . is aoibhainn lionm Cara agus Larla

  • Tá sé sin go deas ach is trua nach bhfuil an leagan a rinne Peadar O'Riada agus Cór Chúil Aodha ag an Oíche Thraidisiúnta in ómás do Sheáin Uí Riada i 1987 le fáil ar YouTube. Se sin an leagan is fearr dár liomsa.

  • hiontach

  • nach bhfuil an amhran sin go halainn ??

  • Tá sé :D

  • bhí sé go hiontach deas

  • Seo leagan ghalánta den t-amhrán álainn seo!! Maith sibh Cara agus Iarla.

  • An Rinn in Co.Waterford, is a community totally devoted to speaking Irish, and the place and people are beautiful all around.

  • so they speak Irish in Waterford? good. i'll make sure to stop by. i plan on visiting next year. let my little girl see the land of her ancestors. i'm learning to speak Gaeilge right now; by the time she's born i hope to be fluent. i've noticed that Irish is a lot like

Spanish in that accent makes a really big difference. i don't know how this is spelled. so i'll spell it phonetically: "un diggun tu Gayling?" (

  • spelt an dtuigeann tú gaeilge :)

  • Your best bet is to go to Connamara in Galway were all the gaeltachts are .. its fantastic Gaeilge all around and they love to teach anyone our native language

  • wat about gaoth dabhair no rinn na feirse agus na gaeltachtaí eile i gContae Dhún na nGall

  • Two of the finest singers alive today. What a wonderful job they've done on this song.

    -jcr

  • Sharon Ni Bheolain!!!!!!!

  • Tá sé deas feiceáilt go bhfuil daoine ag ceol an t-amhrán seo i nGaeilge. In áit a bheith cuir focail Béarla fríd. Is é seo an leagan is deise atá ar YouTube.

  • Aontaím leat. Da chloisfá leagán Celtic Woman - tá sé scánalach! Seo an leagán is fearr beo dar chuala mé 'riamh roimhe. Tá leagán galánta as Gaidhlig na hAlbain taiféadta ag Cliar fosta agus 'An Ríogain Uasail' (den údar & fonn céanna) ag Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh agus Julie Fowlis ar 'Dual' =)

  • More people in NI speak Irish than teletubby... sorry, Ulster Scots haha. Try not to be sectarian for once - people like you cause trouble both online and off.

  • actually not. I'm a student studying one of the of the allied health professions. Never been in a riot against the PSNIRA and strongly condemn sectarian violence on all sides. However the IRA have provided me, as well as many other innocent families with plenty of reasons to be deeply bitter...now ssh

  • And the people of both Ireland and Britain have many reasons to be bitter towards the RUC / PSNI / IRAs / UUP / DUP / SDLP / UUP / Sinn Féin etc. etc. This is music and a celebration, not somewhere for you to vent your unprecedented views on the Irish language and culture. Therefore, start a blog on blogger or post such comments on relevant videos.

  • i was replying to a comment, or indeed part of a comment. i dont see any reason to be bitter towards the the dup or sdlp really? but agreed there is a place for it which is not here

  • And more people in the Republic of Ireland speak Polish and Latin than they do Gaelic -- and that is the case no matter how huffed people get when these facts are raised. Xenophobia about a dead language doesn't help anyone; but it might help if people asked how it got that way...

  • where did you get those statistics from? A load of bollocks. Tá neart Gaeilge taobh seo tíre.

  • hehe neat

does anyone here like 2pac? N6

  • where would you get this song off Cara Dillon please let me no i have looking for it for ages?:(

  • cara

  • Ironic, isn't it, that you chose to write this in "the filth that is the english language"?

I am aware there is a deeper meaning to ANY song when sung in it's native language. That's part of the problem translators run into, there's often no "exact" translation for a term, so they try their best. please don't swear on here, as some children DO use the internet to try expanding their minds. And by the by, one "Archangel" to another: Bí ' do thost, buinneachán.

Go mbeire an diabhal leis thú.

  • Aontáim leat ach,mar is eol duit, tá a lan daoine in hÉireann gan Gaeilge.

  • Ummm, sorry, what was that? I haven't used Gaelige for years, and my little outburst against OutlawedArchangel used all that I was able to dredge for, which is a pity, as I believe it's arguably one of the most beautiful languages I've ever heard. I intend to begin studying again shortly.

    Dia Dhúit,Rosser.

  • sorry but i wasn't talkin to you...

  • Okay, just wasn't sure. Like I said, been years...

  • 's shame that I can't find a properly recorded version of this anywhere. What a pity, it's so beautiful!

  • I think this song is recorded on Chieftain's The Long Black Veil by Sting

  • Sting recorded a beautiful version with the Chieftains, but is not the same song. Only the chorus is sung in Irish and although the song follows the same sentiment as the original Irish (unlike the Celtic Woman's), it is not a translation. Mary Black, Fionnuala Gill and Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin all have beautiful recordings of this song. Mary Black's is my personal favorite and can be found on itunes, as can Fionnuala Gill's.

  • Just beautiful. Their voices go together so well.

  • ha ha its funny i came across this nw when i was tinkin bout all dis kinda stuff coza the leaving results being out on wednesday. i studied the poem version "bimse buan ag buairt gach ló" for higher level irish for the leaving and altho i new it was a song i had neva heard it.

  • Hi all if you like my video too please have a look at my blog "the in between places of ireland"

    Is mise le meas

    Edward

  • Thanks for posting this. Gorgeous performance by all...too bad about the video/audio glitches. Will hope that someone out there has access to a better-quality clip and will post it. The performers deserve it. In the meantime, I am very appreciative of this one!

  • love this song!

  • Absolutely brilliant !!

Where was this event ?? C'on Derry !!!

  • This is a better version of the song to listen to when you want to calm down. Celtic Woman's is a song you want to listen to when you want to get pumped up.

  • Celtic Woman' is kind of fun - sort of like the Supremes of Irish music, but their version of Mo Gile Mear has NOTHING to do with the song's meaning at all. And although I don't object to the choreography, they really messed this one up.

Mo Gile Mear was addressed, oddly enough, to Bonnie Prince Charlie. The woman (Ireland) is hoping that her bright lively one, her dashing darling, will not forget her. They were hoping for a victory.........

  • the celtic woman english version may sound beta to u but it has no meanin and shud not bear the title mo ghille mear as if it has netin to do with this tradition irish song. the only part of their song that has the same meanin as this version is the chorus and guess y dat is...... coz its not bin "translated"

  • their version of the song IS NOT a translation. it is nothing but a joke. it has nothing to do with the real meanin. there are proper translations out there. but the celtic woman 1 has nothing to do with the song that was written over 3 hundred years ago. search mo ghille mear english translation. go into the video uploaded by catholicwarrior. the song is in irish but the words are translated into english and theres the background to the song in the info box

  • if you dont understand the song learn fuckin language ye thick

  • I do agree that Celtic Woman does too much with the showing off (I HATE the choregraphy) but I do like the fact that their voices (girls and choir)evenly blend and I like David Downes arrangement (mouth music and extra lyrics) but I do wish they'd sang it all in Irish... sounds so much better than in English. =)

  • These are old irish songs, that would have been sung around a fire or something, not belted out. I think it's a great rendition

  • your crazy , she is smokin. id hit it

  • that mc, she looked like an elf from lotr

  • was this event recorded professionally? is there a copy available for sale? this arrangement is wonderful.

  • Lovely!

  • Then again...how can we really tell who sings it better with this crappy reception!!???

  • As much as I like this.... I think Celtic Woman sings it better!

  • Personally i think my dog sings it better, no offense to your celtic woman...jk lol...Nice song

  • i h8 to say this but Celtic Woman r starting to get old to me. I like Cara Dillon cuz she is more newer and i luv when soloist sing. But hey duet rn't bad either. This is a beautiful rendition by Cara.

  • i think Celtic Woman hasnt really the soul within...they perform it simply, there's too much performance. Furthermore they have the wrong lyrics, and the song sounds better when not too many people at once sing the main part...

  • You can't be serious about that. Of all the preformances of this wonderful song on YouTube the Celtic Women effort would not be my top 10.

Celtic Women seem mostly about themselves -- their music is pleasant enough to hear I guess but just dreadful to watch - too much showboating, too much pomp, performers too full of themselves and the effort seems lacking in SOUL.

Celtic Women have over stayed their welcome on the traditional music stage in my view. They were intersting for a while.

  • befor now, ive never herd of either Cara Dillian or Ialra O' Lioniard, but i have to say i am IMPRESSED, this is a beautiful verson of Mo Ghile Mear, beautiful...

  • even the german guy, with the cap at 3.01 singing gealic ?

wonderfull song. cara dillon is just awsome.

  • this sounds great

  • fyi...it's 'iarla' not Larla!

and yes, it's "all in irish" (sometimes called gaelic).

    thanks for posting

  • This is one of the better renditions out there, nicely done.

  • is this all in gaelic?

  • In Irish

  • Irish gaelic - or simply, Irish. There are several gaelic languages still managing to stay alive on the planet. :)

I love the Highland Sessions rendition, but this is a great rendition as well. Beautifully suited for the venue and with a magnificent choral accompaniment!

Anyone just getting to know Iarla, perhaps you are familiar with AfroCelt, Iarla's other musical world.

  • conas ata tu? do you speak any gailge?

  • No, unfortunately. I only have the opportunity to listen to the music in that language and study beginner's language tapes to try to understand at least something. So many wonderful languages in the world, eh?!

  • ta dirgon, ach nil mooron agam. i'm SURE the spelling is terrible. i'm learning from an audio c.d. i'm trying to say that i speak a little, but i don't understand much. if you want to speak Gaelic to me, by all means, do so. i need to interact with fellow Irish-speakers.

  • i think she has the most beauitful voice

  • I like this version the best and Sting/Chieftains version 2nd best. Good post, BigOirishLass

  • Great upload!!!

Any chance of you having more of the music that was played that day?

  • Larla and Cara were brilliant at singing it. Thanks for posting it.

  • That's so beautiful. Cara is an angel. I'm sure of it!!!!
