He is as human as the rest of us. There is no need to put a human being on a pedestal. It is the responsibility of "the person" to reason, believe, or experience what this man, James Arthur Ray, teaches. We should all learn from our own experience. He was just sharing and gives us the chance to think and learn.
First of all he is not a GURU. It's the media and people out there who label him this way. He is a motivational speaker. Why are people making this dramatic? Geesh! Let it go already! I think he does a great job as a motivational speaker. Thats all he is to me. A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER.
Self Help Gurus: Do unto others as you would have it done unto you.
All of our problems, all of our conflicts, all of our difficulties in creating a Life on our planet of peace and joy are based in our failure to understand this simple instruction, and to follow it.
I went out with James Ray just before he became famous. I was attending his seminar. He was a humble, down to earth guy who shared with me his background & what he had gone through. I commend him for turning his life around & using the principles he was preaching. When I saw him speaking on Larry King re:The Secret, something seemed to have changed. Great advice...but seemed to be in a more egocentric frame of mind. I believe what happened to him WAS the Law of Attraction. He went off course.
This dude made a mistake. He didn't try to kill those people. These people making these comments on hear are haters against the new age teaching. It was an accident.
For people who troll the web to post contrary or intentionally divisive comments - I encourage you to save your breath. What we see in others is as true for who we are in and of ourselves. By choosing to crucify others - you express that you deserve the same.
Consider the significance of this story and let it teach you about the importance of humility. Humility was lacking for James that night. And by engaging in un-humble language you foolishly toss stones while living in a glass house.
Mr. Ray attracted this experience into his life - as did everyone else. People who are unable to see beyond the tangible or choose to live in a black and white world will be offended by such a statement. But your being offended does not make it less true.
Mr. Ray took on a role of a leader and likely attempted to walk in the shoes of a God and his lesson is as significant and as big. There is a lesson for all of us, if we choose to heed it.
When I learned of the tragedy at James' retreat center, including the accounts of the entire weekend, it seemed obvious that Mr. Ray had moved past the place of humble awareness of self into the place where the ego resides. It is a human tendency - it is the same reason why rock stars, church leaders and politicians so often engage in behaviors that oppress or demoralize others.
look at 0:52 let me tell you guys something, this guy will be bounced back, he always has positive attitude and he will, on his feet again... good luck james... keep inspiring me... again, if he's not using his "LOA", he will be charged on manslaughter!
This man is not a monster. It could have happened to anyone running an intense seminar. Some people get burned feet from doing firewalks but they don't blame the facilitator. We are all responsible for our our own lives. James must have had something going on before the seminar to attract this outcome. And he will deal with it. People point the finger, but as the saying goes; when you point the finger at someone, you have 3 pointing back at you
@bohemiana Monster? No. Deluded? Yes, and unfortunately many people share in James Ray's emotionally-appealing delusions because he is a powerful public speaker. He dresses up old axioms with flowery "spiritual" language and bits of Native American mysticism for one purpose: to make himself rich. That's the only thing that was going on before the seminar, and it had been going on since he first set foot on the public stage. The sooner we're rid of these "self-help" quacks the better.
@amazinglienow Then you better watch this on youtube "2012 The Truth You're Not Being Told Part 1 (Full 95min)" and after it- /watch?v=rGXCVBVFZ7Q and you'll understand what are the pre effects.
A knife in the right hands is an excellent cutting tool in the hands of an ego maniac it can be deadly, power can be used for good or for bad it doesn't mean we should do away with power but learn to use it responsibly - "With great power comes great responsibility"
People need to realize that gurus (religious or not) are dangerous... Their talent is their charisma .They can get some people to try almost anything.. They learn a few things about what others have spent a lifetime mastering then go out and use it on others, then try to cover their behinds with disclaimers... I cant stand them.
@redn40 Good point! Unfortunately, there are many who don't understand and never will. There's no point in trying to convince those who have zero common sense and simply looking someone to lead them. It's like the blind leading the blind.
@lumeriam Whatever.Everyone judges and he was judged by a jury panel which consists of human beings. He
will ultimately be judged by the Creator.Nothing I said was out-of-line or harsh. What I said is the truth. If you don't like it,that's your own problem.Plus, don't need your advice or insight. He's a scam artist. Not a healer.
We love to judge others, thats what we all do best. I do find wisdom in some Bible-quotes: Who is the first, to cast the first stone or remove the log from your eye before we try it by others...
Have I or you ever made a wrong judgement in our lives? I guess so. Of course he has to face his consequences just like all of us. We´re all Human beings with faults (shadows). I hope one day we´ll all see judgements for what they are, a chance to look into the mirror and wake up! - Hooponopono -
This should be a lesson to those who exploit sacred & traditional ceremonies and to those who are in need seeking help from traditional healers. No self-respecting

He was obviously on some maniacal ego trip... I mean to YELL at people to stay in the tent when they were in distress, and his disregard for the DEAD and injured.
Looks like he's guilty on 3 counts of "negligent homicide," with a potential sentence from probation to 11 years in prison.
It's the not caring about the people that really gets to me. Hope he gets 11 years with an extra 20 for being SUCH A DICK.
IANOL, but "Negligent homicide" is a class 4 felony in Arizona AND you can receive from 1.5 to 3 years for it. . I don't know if the sentencing is concurrent or consecutive, but he's looking at AT LEAST 1.5 years and could be as much as nine. I can't post links in here but you can google the terms for AZ state statues to verify.
@nljpeg wow thats crazy , the whole idea of being trapped in a tent with hot coles , i dont think he even knew what he was doin as far as the stupid mental retreat
@mizsherle Yes he is the kind of hustler that would turn something tragic into profit for himself. Did you see all those sick f's, Law of attraction die hards, who were "intending" a not guilty verdict for him? Despite all the information that was known about him? That is sick.
Too bad jury didn't get to hear about his past SL's and all the other information that was held out of this trial, including coverup of death in San Diego a month before. They would of found him guilty of Manslaughter for sure. That's why I find it funny that casual followers of this trial here the info from the media and act like it was the participants fault that 3 died and many others went to hospital. You have no idea what you speak of.
@saginPhx Completely agree. In a way he got off easy with the negligence charges instead of manslaughter. He'll still have the stigma of being a convict but he deserved to have the book thrown at him. Everyone should look up the Colleen Conaway story.
