pleease, somebody translate this lovely interview! I love Roberto and I love her too, as they are a grand couple and I do want so much to understand what they are talking about! Thanks you If it is too much here pls, send it to me into my inbox, thanks
Latin does not come from 'old Greek' or indeed Classical Greek they are linguistic cousins being both Indo-European languages but no closer.Latin is,of course an Italic language from the Romance Group whilst Greek is in a family grouping all of its own and only descended from a common Indo-European ancestor(from which Persian and Armenian also derive.
Romanian is a full romance language and a very close Latin derivative with some slavic vocabulary.
Angela este o voce extraordinara, dar ca persoana.."ah, oh, ah , oh..".. nu imi place de ea, nu a stiut sa ramana simpla...isi merita porecla.. este foarte falsa...
Her meeting with Zeani, another Romanian diva I adore, is filled with sincere and spontaneous emotion! Wow! Now that I understand the words, I enjoy it much better!
I am so happy because I finally found the translation of this interview on Angela and Roberto's yahoo groups. So I know now what that book Marin gave her is, it's the Bible, and this sacred religious image (probably Romanian Orthodox) is really beautiful. Now I enjoy their conversation much more! Apparently, Angela believes in God, Marin mentioned her her faith in God. And Angela is really modest and nice, the press lied about her so-called 'arrogance'.
I found it on yahoo groups entitled Angela Gheorghiu. A Romanian lady was so kind to post the translation there. But I think you have to register for yahoo groups. Do a search yahoo groups Angela Gheorghiu and then register. There are in fact several groups, one of them is called alagna gheorghiu. I am not sure anymore in which of these yahoo groups it was posted, but the Google search should help you find it. :)
And, honestly, I really really admire all three: Callas, Zeani and Gheorghiu! They are all superb artists, and the two Romanian divas are Callas' worthy successors. I've read that many refer to Gheorghiu as 'the new Callas'. So it would be illogical if she would dislike Callas.
Well, I certainly don't agree with her there, although I admire Gheorghiu's art very much, and I appreciate her generosity (she adopted Alagna's daughter and her niece after her sister's death) But I also admire Callas (who, as I see, is your co-national), she is LA DIVINA.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
what does this bitch thinks? She is miss beauty-kitch in preson and overacts all the time, now saying Callas' Tosca is hysterical? Callas portrayed Tosca's nervousness.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
nonsense, she doesn't act that well, Callas was a sining actress and a wonderful musician, Angela has a overdone sense of rhythm, no way she is Callas' heir, take Dessay as one!
Could someone who is Romanian here tell me what she said about Maria Callas, I heard she mentioned Callas together with Zeani in some context. I've also heard elsewhere that Angela was not very complimentary about Callas, and it is a bit hard for me to believe, because I found in her Casta diva many similarities in phrasing to Callas. As to other roles Zeani sang too: Violetta, Tosca, I believe it was Zeani who was her direct inspiration. I know Callas and Zeani praised each other's art.
Oi! G'day from Oz! To the Romanians and foreigners have a good one and a short comment: AG may look snobby or tough beach, but that is because firstly she is really REALLY good, she is really REALLY beautifull, and she is comming from a country in wich you have to be really tough to survive; plus, in a world dominated by talentless but envious anglo saxons she had to be the way she is... The real Angela is when she is meeting Zeani, when she is humble, a bit like Julia Roberts in Notting Hill.
Nici o frustare si nici o remarca comunisya!
Gheorghiu idolizes Zeani. To surprise Gheorghiu on the 40th birthday, friends sent air fare to bring Zeani to Roma to surprise Gheorghiu. A most touching reunion of the two divas; both in tears at the meeting. An so the torch was passed from the older Romanian to the younger diva. One need not understand Romanian to feel the warmth of Zeani and the thrill for Gheoghiu at the entrance of Zeani. The two sopranos have forged an enduring bond; Zeani's generosity will not be lost on Gheorghiu! Bravi
you are looking at an interview with angela gheorghiu and you are talking about the origin of romanian language?anyway....i am looking forward in seeing angela in adjud.i have a great respect for her and i am glad that she knows that :X
I've also noticed they say 'draga' which is a Slavic word that in Croatian (my native language) means 'dear' in the feminine form. So it proves that Romanian has many Slavic features. By the way, I ADORE both Zeani and Gheorghiu! It was so moving to see their meeting! I didn't understand much, but I understood they were complimenting each other!
Yes, you are right:'draga' means 'dear' in Romanian also. We have indeed a lot of Slavic words but the words most frequently used in our speaking are of Latin origin. This is why our language is categorized as Latin.
As for the meeting between Angela and Virginia, I was touched too. Virginia is Angela's idol and she was so humble and really touched.
Romanian was strongly influenced by Slavic (due to migration/assimilation, and feudal/ecclesiastical relations), Greek ,Turkish, and Hungarian, while the other Romance languages adopted words and features of Germanic.
AndradaDaciana, Nu uita ca aceste femei sunt cintarete de opera...adica au ureche muzicala. Ar fi si culmea sa piarda accentul limbii materne. 1-2 zile petrecute printre romani si si-au recapatat accentul.
Marleneagnes Romanian is truly a latin language but it does not have slavic words there is no slavic aspects in the romanian language, it in fact has more latin words than all other latin based languages, since Romanians are direct decedents of Romans and the Roman empire.

This is not true. We have a lot of Slavic words. But the criterion based on which a language is categorized is the number of words used in the current speaking. According to this criterion, we have a Latin language, because most of the words we use most often in our current speaking are of Latin origin.
I have to confess that I do not know the origin of Latin. All I know is that many languages have their origin in the Indo-European language, but I don't know any details about the Latin language. Anyway, thank you very much for this information. I will do some research in this respect...:)
