@mmilano626 It costs 450 million dollars to launch the space shuttle. To launch something like the Falcon 9, or the future Falcon Heavy would cost in the 40-50 million dollar area. It was a money pit, and they could have used something better and more efficient. I do agree however, that it was a great ship and has been great for US Patriotism and helped to expand the Human Species into space, and to expand the human knowledge of the universe itself.

About two years ago, I had the luck to watch Discovery take off from Cape Canaveral. It was an absolutely magical experience, and one that I will never forget. The noise is almost deafening even from ~2 miles away. You can feel the vibrations in the air going through your chest. Absolutely incredible
