This song was written & originally recorded by Australia's Johnny O'Keefe. Jerry Lee Lewis & Buddy Holly became good friends of Johnny's when they toured Australia in 1958. Johnny O'Keefe died after a heart attack, aged 42 in 1978, he is and will always be Australia's King Of Rock And Roll.
I miss the "alt. version" of this that used to be on youtube. One of my very first yt favorites. Thanks for posting this one.....I may feature it on my page for Detroit's "Woodward Dream Cruise" this weekend, instead of the Beach Boys song I planned to use!
@willieraye Yes, you are right. But as like this song that much it's a bit fun to e´ven heraing it a bit off. But the 'better' one is...well, sounds better, more complete. Sure!
@DannySladeCroman Aye. That one i knew, read the sleeve notes on one the Buddy Holly albums, this track was on. It's not something you'd expect though to hear Buddy doing backing vocals....sounds as though he had just as much fun doing that as Jerry Alison did with the main vocals. Great song
@snshoopoo Thats there record starting. All records make the 'poping and crackping' sound at the beginning.

Jerry Allison would even agree that Iggy Pop's version is best.

@eckyspondoolie
No way,the Iggy version is total crap!!This is much wilder as it sounds like a kid & not an old aged Junky!!
HepCatmobile 11 months ago
@eckyspondoolie I DON'T THINK SO !!! IGGY IS LIKE 20 YEARS LATER !!! AND HAD MORE "TECH" YES.
BUT THE BEST...IS JERRY LEE LEWIS !!!!

You may be close my friend. Allison said "I was trying to sound like James Cagney `you dirty rat`
but it came out kinda funny sounding" \Ref. Golden age of American R&R vol.6

@RockaBillyBor The thang is that the voice gonna sound like this. That's the point. Kind of lazy... ;O)

@RockaBillyBor
The voice is meant to be a kid singing.Hence the funny voice which to me sounds WILD!!!

Fantastic information .. nice to see other people with knowledge of this period. Great track tune getting more rare on the coral as well.

Pretty neat. I noticed, though, that no one seems to have put up the one with Bddy on vocal and guitar, yet. Thanks 4 posting.
