I see this in a different light. As far as marketing goes, this is genius. Two months ago, nobody heard of the Box Masters. Had Bill Bob done a normal run of the mill interview, this band will still be un heard of but yet he made a scene and lo and behold nearly 2 million views on the Q tv video alone and that translates into big bucks over time.

This was intended to be his way of making the d.j. look like a dick, but it backfired. Most evidently. Actually, he asserted in a few other interviews after this interview, when asked, stated that he meant to say exactly what he said, so apprently he is not sorry. Most importantly he was totally out of it, and appaeared to forget where he was in the first few moments of the interview. A combination of drugs, dementia, false pride, and arrogance...a recipe for disaster!

BBT took offence from the start because the interviewer made reference to him being an actor... thats not a question, so the original agreement not to question him about his movie career still held.
BBT ruined the interview, caused harm to the tour due to the back lash, but he is OK because he's got another career. I feel bad for the rest of the band. They, at least, tried to go on with the interview.

right, and who knows if that was miscommunication or not. but it's a subject of curiousity for all the fans and listeners of the radio station, and that's who this interview is for. not BB. when you play music it's also not about YOU its about the fans. so you play your hit song 1 at every show because the fans are your paycheck. besides, he could have just said in the beginning that he didn't appreciate the focus on his career, rather than employ the similar tactics of a 4th grader.
it's also of importance because otherwise his band wouldn't be famous and he wouldn't have 5 albums and be touring with willie nelson. an average band takes a good 10 years to break. he gets a foot in the door because of his acting so it gets brought up. an A & R rep wouldn't have ever given the box masters a chance. pulling of 3 studio albums in a year is good, but not that hard with a limitless budget, and half covers. his name is giving this band their 15 minutes of fame, so it's relevant

If Billy Bob wanted to focus on the band and their music then Jian Ghomeshi could have shown respect for that. Instead Jian continued to hammer the subject. Then again, Billy could have cut the recording and dealt with it off camera then finished the interview.

In theory I get what your trying to say. But in reality he isn't selling cd's as a result, and the tour was cancelled as a result of his poor judgment in not controlling his temper, and in being high during the interview. His true colors wer eshowing in high resolution.

I see this in a different light. As far as marketing goes, this is genius. Two months ago, nobody heard of the Box Masters. Had Bill Bob done a normal run of the mill interview, this band will still be un heard of but yet he made a scene and lo and behold nearly 2 million views on the Q tv video alone and that translates into big bucks over time.

This was intended to be his way of making the d.j. look like a dick, but it backfired. Most evidently. Actually, he asserted in a few other interviews after this interview, when asked, stated that he meant to say exactly what he said, so apprently he is not sorry. Most importantly he was totally out of it, and appaeared to forget where he was in the first few moments of the interview. A combination of drugs, dementia, false pride, and arrogance...a recipe for disaster!

BBT took offence from the start because the interviewer made reference to him being an actor... thats not a question, so the original agreement not to question him about his movie career still held.
BBT ruined the interview, caused harm to the tour due to the back lash, but he is OK because he's got another career. I feel bad for the rest of the band. They, at least, tried to go on with the interview.

right, and who knows if that was miscommunication or not. but it's a subject of curiousity for all the fans and listeners of the radio station, and that's who this interview is for. not BB. when you play music it's also not about YOU its about the fans. so you play your hit song 1 at every show because the fans are your paycheck. besides, he could have just said in the beginning that he didn't appreciate the focus on his career, rather than employ the similar tactics of a 4th grader.

it's also of importance because otherwise his band wouldn't be famous and he wouldn't have 5 albums and be touring with willie nelson. an average band takes a good 10 years to break. he gets a foot in the door because of his acting so it gets brought up. an A & R rep wouldn't have ever given the box masters a chance. pulling of 3 studio albums in a year is good, but not that hard with a limitless budget, and half covers. his name is giving this band their 15 minutes of fame, so it's relevant

If Billy Bob wanted to focus on the band and their music then Jian Ghomeshi could have shown respect for that. Instead Jian continued to hammer the subject. Then again, Billy could have cut the recording and dealt with it off camera then finished the interview.

Yeah. But if you watch the interview, Billy Bob "didn't understand" simple questions like: "When did you band form? What kind of music did you listen to as a kid?" And was quite out of it form the get-go.
Billy coming back latter saying that Jian was asking questions he wasn't supposed to is just a cover and a distractor from his bad behaviour.

While i've heard a lot of people talking about how the producer never actually agreed to refrain from talking about the subject of his acting, he still should have respected the fact that Billy didnt want to talk about it and left it alone.
