This song is, I believe, one of the greatest songs ever composed. It is beautiful and the photography and divine landscape, makes this a creation of pure genius.
Each time I feel weakness and I don't know where to find myself in perfect communion with our Lord, I just listen to this marvelous music, I give my whole attention to the lyrics and I find myself walking by the roads of God. Thanks for posting It. Our Brother Francisco is a magnificent example of spirituality and fraternal love.
Il film è così bello ... io amo San Francesco molto. Sono stato ad Assisi nel 2003 e hanno guardato al suo posto di lavoro. Mi piace e lo ammiro molto. Era una persona meravigliosa ...
I've always liked Donovan, loved this song, yet never seen the film.
However, I have just found out (thankyou BBC Radio 3,) that the tune is one of te themes Raph Vaughn-Williams used in his lovely pastoral work from 1925, "Flos Campi."
Well, yes, the music is correctly credited to RIZ ORTOLANI, not as well known as his cinema-composing compatriots Nino Rota and Ennio Amadeus Morricone {as I call Him}
The Vaughan Williams piece 'Flos Campi' is on YouTUBE in 2 parts. I found it around 5:20 on Part 2. It's nearly identical, but I actually think Riz has IMPROVED it, so that it sounds more medieval. Remember of course there's a whole film score, of which that piece is a part
Esta película cambió mi vida es tan bella, San Francisco era un hippie de su tiempo, le decían "cesta rota", antes de su conversión, también tenía algo de Sufi
Zeffirelli's idea to have Donovan help score this inspiring and lovely film was brilliant. The film has as much to do with the best of the 60's youth culture as it does about St. Francis of Assisi. In fact, they both have much in common.
"Zeffirelli's idea" was originally to have this very underrated and much neglected film scored by The Beatles! ~ although I suspect Sir George Martin would have been doing a lot of the work.
At 1:36 where Francesco comes across the dilapidated little church building, that keeps "The Faithful" from understanding what the Divine Commission really was!
If you look deeply at this scene, at these images of the Umbrian landscape and the way it is all filmed, you are touched by pure genius. Great artistry!
it's a bit corny... vv'

Do you think John Lennon's Imagine would fit Brother Sun, Sister Moon??? :)
"Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
no need for greed or hunger -
a brotherhood of men!
Imagine all the people
sharing all the world...
I think Saint Francis of Assisi could have sung this as well! :)
Great movie and great clip, by the way! :)
