Movie: Romeo and Juliet 1968 Starring: Leonard Whiting as Romeo and Olivia Hussey as Juliet Directed by: Franco Zeffirelli Original play written by: William Shakespeare Screenplay written by: Franco Brusati Song written by: Eugene Walter Original song sung by: Glen Weston Original song title: What is a youth? Music composed by: Nino Rota This version is sung by Loreena McKennit No Danny Osmond, no Nana Mouschouri (though as a Greek, I'd love it if it were her), no Celine Dion, no nothing....
@killerqhk Nino Rota is the composer of the original music, but if you want the singer of this particular version that you hear in this video it is Loreena McKennit. It is a wonderful song and she made a great version of it - much different than the original, but absolutely brilliant!
i watched this film in high school and i remember feeling bewitched by it. so beautiful and fragile a love yet forbidden..(sigh). i consoled myself with the thought that somehow, somewhere romeo and juliet found each other, belonged and shared their love in a short span of time, despite the odds against them.
@quynhnguyenlovemiley this is no twilight. this is one of the most amazing movies ever. and then you come with the most stupid & ridiculous movie ever. why do you come here if you talk about that stupid movie?
@netherlandgirll you think you don't stupid when you talk bout this! huh? please, when you hate or don't like something, just don't read it! why you read my comment and rep it!? lol i just want to say a beautiful love! why you hate love so much? you come here to watch the best movie or come here to read my comment!:-"
@quynhnguyenlovemiley How can I decide whether it's stupid or not? Yes, to read it :) So don't talk bullshit. This is a beautiful song & a beautiful movie. But everytime I'm listening to a song on youtube, I read the reactions. But I can ask you the same question: Do you come here to post a stupid offtopic reaction or to watch the best movie ever? (:
@netherlandgirll i come here to watch the best movie! :-" and i post my comment about love and beautiful novel! can you do that? grow you guy! thinking before saying someone stupid and you don't! lol
@quynhnguyenlovemiley Love? Beautiful novel? I THINK I HAVE TO CRY. Twilight is the most stupid movie ever. How dare you compare that with this. Ugh. Shame on you.
I came to tell my Beloved my heart has worshipped thee and worshipped nothing else...Through the lanes of my eyes this handsome man from the Land of Pharaoh slipped into my heart. Those bonds and those affections, those promises of everlasting love I'm taking with me...I'll make of your ring a keepsake and decorate my finger with it forever.
I have waited 35 years for me my true love ... still I hold on, forsaking any chance for happiness, knowing that perhaps it may never come to pass and must remain denied ... all because of foolish timidity in youth. One moment in time reversed is all it would take ...
Kako predivna pisma i film.Tako lipi glas put topline i njeznosti je ritko za cut i tako napravjen film more samo Zaffirelli.Ne mogu je pristat cut i film gledat.Ovo je neponovjivo.Fala za postavjanje.
We only met after we grew up, wouldn't have worked sooner. Sometimes your life makes you who you were meant to be.... I love you Mark. Always have. Been searching for you this whole time...
não existe nenhum momento desse universo que seja mais sublime ou significativo do que esse momento da descoberta do amor de romeu e julieta. pode ser fantasioso, mas o amor sempre prevalece.
I love this song. this song was my highschool sweetheart and i song we feel like this. We broke up but i still remember and still love him and maybe one day there will be a time for us.
I just saw an incredible version of this song done by an 11 yr old girl filmed by her mother in the audience. The sound isn't great but I really thought it was beautiful
Good movie maybe, yet the scene of Juliet's suicide really sucks (it's just toooooo fake) I remember the whole class, quiet mesmerized by the acting throughout most parts, burst out in loud laughter...
Romeo and Juliet, what can I say, my first love song I ever heard and fell in love with it. It's a pioneer for todays romances and music. There will always will be a time for us......we just have to wait for God to decide when and who. And if not in this life time, the next, but it will come to you, and it will be glorious, beautiful, emotional, etc... a time for us.........love, Shari and Benji.
@Benjilenway Make sure that it is God's will. Because through various high tech media interjections a person can be misguided and deceived lead by something familiar seen or heard and then your emotions are stirred only later are you left to suffer after you wake up to the cruel mismatch. This may be Romeo and Juliet but the reality is that more people live as in Swan Lake deceived. This probably will be censored as this technology is not addressed in the USA.
I was 16 when I first watched this film - the intoxicatingly emotive music and the angelic vision of Olivia Hussey etched a lasting memory in my mind.....
I got forced to watch this movie for school, at first I was like- Why the fuck are we watching this? Then strangely I started humming this song. I have to admit I actually liked it, I guessthe saying is correct you can't judge a book by its cover.
Romeo is banished, and Juliet's parents tell her that she is to marry Paris the next day. Juliet unhappily goes to Friar Lawrence's place. She tells the Friar that she would rather kill herself than marry Paris, so the Friar has to come up with something quick.
He finds a sleeping potion, where she would wake up in two days. The Friar plans on sending a message to Romeo so he would find her in the tomb, but Romeo reaches the "dead" Juliet before the message gets to him.
This is all around one of the best movies I have ever seen. It had good actors, it was based off an ageless story which is obviously good, and the effects are good even for these days, 43 years later. Even though the way the did soundtracks back than was far different, it was still good here.
And now, as a guy, I must say the highlight of this entire film of course is Juliet. She is, in all honesty, one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. And she is played by a great actress.
@Sakurearine Hi, the Artist Is Barrett Waugh. I couldnt believe the artist is actually a man. I confirmed it on Amazon MP3 and listened to the sample.
Its ironic because my one and only true love had to move away . Over the years we would find each and talk but never in person. I was her true love as well. Our love never died. As time went on our lives had to move on. Very recently we reconnected and our love for each other remains as strong as ever but it has to remain denied. How long has this story been going on....We saw Romeo and Juliet together as teenage lovers when it was released in 1968. We both lost the love of our lives
@USApure A damn pity brother. Its been a long time, 1968, Wow. You should feel proud though that you can recognize your true love, that will live in eternity.
I remember seeing this '68 version in High School and even the jocks were crying (though they tried to pretend they weren't)... I prefer Johnny Mathis singing "A Time for us"
Best song and best Romeo and Juliet movie when we were in highschool my best friend spent weeks trying to hunt down this VHS for my birthday and i still have it to this day. Ill have to move on to looking for the DVD soon though.
I first saw this movie in grade 10 and would love to see it again. I will be happy till that time just playing your video till such times. I thank you for your good taste and willingness to share your findings. Good luck and best of times.
It's been a long time since anyone's composed an indisputably great song like this. Is it because modern composers won't, or because they can't? I'm sure if they would, they could. There were quite a number of great songs composed in the '60s and '70s. Very few in the '80s (if any), and pretty much none for the past 20 years. Why is that?
i like the music. Film adaptation was a fail

By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.
