  • Movie: Romeo and Juliet 1968 Starring: Leonard Whiting as Romeo and Olivia Hussey as Juliet Directed by: Franco Zeffirelli Original play written by: William Shakespeare Screenplay written by: Franco Brusati Song written by: Eugene Walter Original song sung by: Glen Weston Original song title: What is a youth? Music composed by: Nino Rota This version is sung by Loreena McKennit No Danny Osmond, no Nana Mouschouri (though as a Greek, I'd love it if it were her), no Celine Dion, no nothing....

  • Piękny filmik do cudownego utworu***

    Duże brava!!!! Pozdrawiam serdecznie:)

  • Can you tell me the name of singer ?

  • @killerqhk nino rota.. i believe.

  • @killerqhk

Barrat Waugh, the Maestro Nino Rota is the author.

  • @killerqhk Nino Rota is the composer of the original music, but if you want the singer of this particular version that you hear in this video it is Loreena McKennit. It is a wonderful song and she made a great version of it - much different than the original, but absolutely brilliant!

  • i watched this film in high school and i remember feeling bewitched by it. so beautiful and fragile a love yet forbidden..(sigh). i consoled myself with the thought that somehow, somewhere romeo and juliet found each other, belonged and shared their love in a short span of time, despite the odds against them.

  • best version, of Romeo and Juliet...by far...sensual, sensitive and pure.

  • @blondiern56 Agreed :)

  • I'm surprised no one made the connection between alexander rybak and Leonard Whiting before. They seem to make a better connection than zack efron.

  • who is this by?

  • @EmmaK1061 A Time For Us Donny Osmond

  • no wonder romeo and juliets' parents didn't agree to their love... they were still too young

  • I am so glad they didnt have "homies" back in the day. Probably would have worn baggy tights.

  • :(

  • sad ending

  • I swear, if Zac Efron and Jonathan Bennett had a baby (well if it was possible), then that baby would be Romeo

  • Only good thing to come out of Grade 10 English - Olivia Hussey.

  • não existe nenhum momento desse universo que seja mais sublime ou significativo do que esse momento da descoberta do amor de romeu e julieta. pode ser fantasioso, mas o amor sempre prevalece.

  • Tis not as deep as a well nor as wide as a church door, but tis enough will serve.

    Always liked that line.

  • who is the singer???

  • I love this song. this song was my highschool sweetheart and i song we feel like this. We broke up but i still remember and still love him and maybe one day there will be a time for us.

  • I just saw an incredible version of this song done by an 11 yr old girl filmed by her mother in the audience. The sound isn't great but I really thought it was beautiful

  • i love this song

  • We should all know who Nino Rota is. He wrote this. This song is so very touching, the theme to one of the most classic love stories ever told.

  • @madeleinetahliarose it's true, but it's actually the other way around ;)

  • Good movie maybe, yet the scene of Juliet's suicide really sucks (it's just toooooo fake) I remember the whole class, quiet mesmerized by the acting throughout most parts, burst out in loud laughter...

  • My best friend and I love this song so much. He and I listen to it all the time together :)

  • Romeo and Juliet, what can I say, my first love song I ever heard and fell in love with it. It's a pioneer for todays romances and music. There will always will be a time for us......we just have to wait for God to decide when and who. And if not in this life time, the next, but it will come to you, and it will be glorious, beautiful, emotional, etc... a time for us.........love, Shari and Benji.

  • @Benjilenway Make sure that it is God's will. Because through various high tech media interjections a person can be misguided and deceived lead by something familiar seen or heard and then your emotions are stirred only later are you left to suffer after you wake up to the cruel mismatch. This may be Romeo and Juliet but the reality is that more people live as in Swan Lake deceived. This probably will be censored as this technology is not addressed in the USA.

  • @Nueroactive Similar technology parallel page 28 Scientific American "Fight in White Space" by Larry Greenmeier

  • I was 16 when I first watched this film - the intoxicatingly emotive music and the angelic vision of Olivia Hussey etched a lasting memory in my mind.....

  • I got forced to watch this movie for school, at first I was like- Why the fuck are we watching this? Then strangely I started humming this song. I have to admit I actually liked it, I guessthe saying is correct you can't judge a book by its cover.

  • This is my favorite play by Shakespeare

  • i love it!!!

  • replay replay replay agan and agan

Such a beautiful song and story...

  • Yes I did my love

  • Its ironic USApure 1 month ago 24 Al did you write this for me? For Us?

  • Seven people were so mystified and hypnotized that their hands slipped... and they accidently hit the thumbs down button...

  • why doe Juliet fake her death?

  • @KingdomHeartsX64

Romeo is banished, and Juliet's parents tell her that she is to marry Paris the next day. Juliet unhappily goes to Friar Lawrence's place. She tells the Friar that she would rather kill herself than marry Paris, so the Friar has to come up with something quick.

He finds a sleeping potion, where she would wake up in two days. The Friar plans on sending a message to Romeo so he would find her in the tomb, but Romeo reaches the "dead" Juliet before the message gets to him.

  • @KingdomHeartsX64 ...to avoid marrying paris

  • such powerful music! I cant believe this is in Phantom Regiment's show this year!

  • This is all around one of the best movies I have ever seen. It had good actors, it was based off an ageless story which is obviously good, and the effects are good even for these days, 43 years later. Even though the way the did soundtracks back than was far different, it was still good here.

And now, as a guy, I must say the highlight of this entire film of course is Juliet. She is, in all honesty, one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. And she is played by a great actress.

  • 1:38 the guy is so cuuteee `:) Love this movie sincerely.... powerful, and at the same time very sad.. :/

  • sooo emotional.... <3 and Juliet is beautiful:)

  • Will always be the most tragic love story there will ever be.

    This play DEFINES romantic tragedy.

  • who's the one that sings it?

  • @Sakurearine Hi, the Artist Is Barrett Waugh. I couldnt believe the artist is actually a man. I confirmed it on Amazon MP3 and listened to the sample.

  • @USApure Thank you..! I can't believe it too... he's incredible, I always thought was a woman singing!

  • "What light in yonder window breaks? It is the east and Juliet is the sun!"

  • I'm playing this melody for my orchestra final on the violin and watching this makes me really want to see the movie again. I love Shakespeare :D

  • you know it's good if it makes you cry :) this is good

  • Its ironic because my one and only true love had to move away . Over the years we would find each and talk but never in person. I was her true love as well. Our love never died. As time went on our lives had to move on. Very recently we reconnected and our love for each other remains as strong as ever but it has to remain denied. How long has this story been going on....We saw Romeo and Juliet together as teenage lovers when it was released in 1968. We both lost the love of our lives

  • @USApure oh, it is sooo sad!

  • @klari42 Thank you, your very kind.

  • @USApure touching story...

  • @SirDead77 Thank you for your comment. We are in contact but it is difficult for the both of us.

  • @USApure I HAVE GOOSEBUMPS.

  • @USApure sorry for loss but be thankful you were among the lucky ones that found their soulmate ,I too found mine but cannot be with them yet!

  • @Scottishwench Thank you for your kind words. I truly hope you will be with your love very soon. 'm afraid I will never be able to be with mine.

  • Your true story is so sad.....

  • @75Chopin Thank you for your words.

  • @USApure A damn pity brother. Its been a long time, 1968, Wow. You should feel proud though that you can recognize your true love, that will live in eternity.

  • I like this song!

  • Hello; Bonjour: Hola; Aloha; Caio! OF COURSE '68 was better then '96!!!!!!

  • I agree: 1968 is better than 1996..!

  • @Sakurearine There's no comparison!

  • I remember seeing this '68 version in High School and even the jocks were crying (though they tried to pretend they weren't)... I prefer Johnny Mathis singing "A Time for us"

  • beau.....!really have 2 realise wat the person wants,2 be able 2 live life 2 the fullest.

  • the lyrics to this song can bring me to tears!! So beautiful!!

  • @19Paramount19 oh the 1996 is no comparison to this 1996 classic...Olivia Hussey is a much better actress than Claire Danes

  • I watched the movie twice & I sobbed both times.

But this just made me straight up emotional.

    The story is so beautiful.<3

  • I'm already getting emotional from this trailer. [:

  • my teacher won't let us watch this because there is one nude scene! are you KIDDING ME?!?!??! this looks soooo much better than the '96 version...

  • Best song and best Romeo and Juliet movie when we were in highschool my best friend spent weeks trying to hunt down this VHS for my birthday and i still have it to this day. Ill have to move on to looking for the DVD soon though.

  • I first saw this movie in grade 10 and would love to see it again. I will be happy till that time just playing your video till such times. I thank you for your good taste and willingness to share your findings. Good luck and best of times.

  • They are both so pretty!! Make me cry!

  • What's in a name? that which we call a rose

    By any other name would smell as sweet;

So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,

Retain that dear perfection which he owes

Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,

And for that name which is no part of thee

    Take all myself.

  • Great !!! Thank you.

  • exactly great one! deeply felt.. congratz...

  • Still one of the all time classic movies. I just love this one.

  • It's been a long time since anyone's composed an indisputably great song like this. Is it because modern composers won't, or because they can't? I'm sure if they would, they could. There were quite a number of great songs composed in the '60s and '70s. Very few in the '80s (if any), and pretty much none for the past 20 years. Why is that?
