I have their greatest hits cd in my car, and today after my boyfriend kissed me our first kiss before I left school, I played this song on the way home. (:
Wonderful!!!! These guys were surely the epitome of great rock and roll! These days Don takes great liberties with the original melodies (and who can blame him?) but here it's still quite new and they're still promoting the record! I saw this exact band on their UK tour (1960?) and I floated home as if on air.... I hadn't seen anything so good since the Lonnie Donegan shows I'd seen a year or two earlier.
I love all the Everly's songs ... but this is my favorite. They had such great "sing along" songs. Fifty years later, I still try to sing with Phil and find myself slipping into Don's part. LOL
These guys are so great, they alomost don't even need the band behind them (although I think they add) . but........... the two of them, just with their acoustic guitars and their "killer" harmony cover most of the show. That, to me, is how good these guys are. Marc Trainor.
The Beatles were probably far greater fans of the Everly Brothers than you'll ever be, and they are the biggest band of all time for a good reason. If you wonder what all the hype over the Beatles is about, watch their film A Hard Day's Night, listen to all their songs, and read a good biography. The Everly Brothers weren't as good as the Beatles, they didn't ever write songs, They had great vocals and harmonies, so did the Beatles, who were better at that too. I hope I have helped!
@RogerBarrettLives I have to correct you here. The Everlys DID write a lot of their own songs, including some of their biggest hits. A lot of the early Beatles recordings weren't written by themselves, either. The Beatles could harmonize, but they certainly didn't have the great natural vocal blend and counterpoint that the Everlys or the Beach Boys had. And the Everly's best songs are every bit as good as anything the Beatles ever did. But overall, the Beatles were probably the best group ever.
Good catch, I hadn't realized that. This is one of my favorite songs by them, or anybody for that matter. A classic tune... I was not attempting to diminish the greatness of The Everly Brothers in anyway, but the greatness of The Beatles also speaks for itself.
@RogerBarrettLives Of course I understand. And I like the Beatles, too! But one idea I had when I signed up for youtube was to play "Music I don't hear on my radio" - And that certainly can't be said about the Beatles, at least not in our area. But the Everlys - that's a different story, unfortunately. I love the Everlys' music, and I wish our stations would play them more.
I believe that is the Crickets+1 behind them.

Buddy Holly's drummer and bass player (Jerry Allison, Joe B. Mauldin) are backing them. The Everly's and Buddy were best friends. So cool to watch.
