I love most of the medieval era music, but this is the only song I hate. This music is really annoying when you lose a battle with 97% winning odds. Especially the part starting from 6:30. And I do lose such battles when this music is playing.
In case anybody is interested: this is the Gloria of Brumel's "Missa Et Ecce Terrae Motus" (a.k.a. the earthquake mass, since it featured 12 voice-parts at a time when 4 was the norm). The recording is probably the Tallis Scholars'.
It was overall a very poorly made game. They didn't keep it to how Civilization should be either, but I'm thinking it's perhaps they thought console-players wouldn't enjoy this type of game. Typically they don't, either.
@Grahckheuhl ahh i see console players dont like these kind of games(bad made) exept almost the whole call of duty comunity since that bullshit keeps the same never any inprovements and yet its "the best shooter series of all time"
i'd have to agree, console games bought thier consoles for fasted paced, accessible games, even halo wars, an rts made for the console, influnced by console games, and still didn't do so well, but im a console player who will forever love CIV :D
I don't understand why some individuals patronize people like me who find out about this awesome music from video games. Whether you heard it from some classical school you went to or Civ 4, it's still awesome and deserves to be recognized as such. It's like people who say you're not a real fan if you find out about a band from a movie.
@Grahckheuhl Agreed. I'm not much of a gamer at all, but even I can admit they are an art form and should be given more credit.
(Plus I'm convinced part of the reason video games are bashed so hard in the media is because television is scared of no longer being the main youth entertainment system like it was throughout the 50s - 80s. But it's pretty much obsolete).
@fizzypopism it's very silly and also sweepingly judgemental. I like a lot of Renaissance choral music but never heard this particular gloria before playing Civ 4. No one can know everything!

Heard this for the first time when Civ IV first came out and have been trying to find it since then. What an amazingly gorgeous piece of music.

@fizzypopism
Or people just think you as being strange for liking it in a video game, but not having listened to it from a radio.
I don't understand the difference either, so long as the piece is being appreciated in the way it was intended to.
