Now you know why a lot of veterans hold WWII reenacting (and other times periods) in derision. Although these WWII reenactors felt this was "fun", it cheapens the sacrifice made by the men whose uniforms we were. From 350lb "paratroopers" to "family members" coming out as Fallschirmjagers, farbism has infected most of the 20th century reenactment community.
@rememberthesacrifice with all due respect, this was after-hours at the event. This type of display would never be seen by the eyes of the public. We honor and respect the men who served and are serving, we wouldn't have the freedom to be in this hobby if it weren't for them. However, "all work and no play make Pvt. Johnny a dull reenactor." It is neccessary for us to have fun, it builds camaraderie amongst reenactors and "raises moral," if you will. Reenacting must be fun as well as honoring.
@rememberthesacrifice Even back then when all our vets were fighting, do you really think they were fighting 24/7? I don't know how it was back then, but I know today, the people who are currently fighting, fighting is only half (if even) of the things they do. I know people that when they are not on the job, they're goofing off back at their camp. This just goes to show that even though war is a huge relevant issue, you have to have fun while doing it.
Wow I've done WWII re-enacting for four years now and haven't seen anything that funny yet! lol. That would be perfect to have a German bolt out screaming from the American camp having the MP's chasing him down lol!
I'm pretty sure that guy will eventually be a rocket-wielding character in a free-to-play video game which I shall not name. Look, he even has the hat to match!
You can shoot blanks all day long and chat up good looking women and laugh at the farbs but its the randomn shit like this that makes reenacting worthwhile. At the end of the day just like it was for the real soldiers it all boiled down to freindship and having a laugh whenever possible.
I loled very hard. An ammi friend of mine likes to run through the camps at ohh...10 at night when everyones drunk singing Katyusha at the top of his lungs....funny stuff...
We have a kid in our 82nd Airborne unit who always does stuff like this. Its so funny, but they dont usually wait for the spectators to leave so they are like WTF? Usually its sumthing like a hand to hand combat fight will break out in the middle of a food line at the pie cart or sumthing like that, complete with screaming and knives and some vague reference to ' u stole the last mince and cheese u bastard.' Most people laugh or just act shocked, but its always funny.
Ya see this is why I love reenacting other than just to reenact ! Every itme you go out to one of these some one does something so off the wall it's talked about for years to come . I'm sending this to all my 9th SS and 18th Volks friends !
idk why but that is the funniest shit iv seen in ww2 reenacting. when i am on my break from reenacting i need to try somthing like that. lol cheers and good show. lols
