  • silly tim burton hahahahha

  • this is still the best film version of the waynes death. the one in begins was so stupid and quick, not artfully done at all. burton got that whole tragic film noir thing without being terribly cliche like nolan.

  • Bruce Wayne is Ezio's descendant.

  • @nhim04011999 lolz

  • i thought scarecrow killed his parents cause isnt he scared if him

  • Sounds like someone laughing in the background at 1:43.

  • wait hold on i thought it was Joe Chill who killed his parents not Jack Napier

  • who sent them to kill his parents

  • in batman begins he does not point the gun at bruce..but got to say looks the same like batman begins the way they got killed

  • The scream of Bruce's mom gives me goosebumps. O___o

  • Love that guys voice.

  • I used to be a normal person just like you, but then i took a bullet to the parents

  • @epicness40 So Bruce killed his own parents. (Took a bullet to them) My friend your joke is failiure just like you are.

  • JOE CHILL is the other gangster with young Jack Napier, not Bob

  • go to this vid

    watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=pdeMD5W51s4

an then u see that joker killed batmans parents

  • 1:40 Holy shit, his natural smile looks better than Jack Nicholson's makeup. It's a perfect Joker smile! I wish they swap the actors :D But then it would be like "The Curious Case of Jack Napier". :D

  • Batman is one of the darker superheroes, but he's still good.

  • And now we have the moment batman never shuts the hell up about.

  • Joker :knock,knock

    Batman: Whos there?

    Joker: Not your parents

    Batman: D:

  • not disrespecting Nolan's Batman but this scene truly shows the darkness and sadness of what Batman was really supposed to be. killing his parents in cold blood brings more pain and turmoil in this than in Nolan's. this is my opinion

  • "I used to be a kid like you, then I took a bullet to the parents."

  • look thats bobby man lets go....lets go JACk

  • this scene is perfect for me, there is nothing that could make this scene any better, the dream like atmosphere, the creepiness of it all, Joker being the killer of Batman's parents thus truly completing the ying and yang concept with Batman and the Joker, it's all so perfect for me.

  • @woollybully100 I kind of agree man, although the film is entirely dated, and this scene comes off as ALMOST being pretentious... It's still a lot of fun, in terms of how it was executed. Reminds me of something you might see from someone who just graduated film school.

  • This scene had a serious impact on my 8 year old self, the first time seeing this movie. Such a creepy and effective style of presenting their murder...and I love Micheal Keaton's focused expression during the flashback.

  • Aww poor Bruce:(

  • Comment removed

  • Technically yes jack wasnt the joker at that point in time. But when Bruce wayne

grew up he bacame batman. Jack didnt become the joker until batman tossed him over the rail and pulled him up then let him fall into that vat up chemicals

and jack had to have surgy done to his face then at that point in time jack became

    the joker?

  • damn joker is one bad mother fucker

  • WAO... THIS SCENE REALLY FREAK ME OUT.. WHEN I WAS A KID!!! I SWEAR THAT I DID ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS HORRIBLE PART.. IN BATMAN 1989..!!

  • i think that line jack says after he shoots bruce's parents was better not said... it would kinda leave a darker field to the scene... im not saying it wasnt dark itself.. just the scene would have been better

  • The guy @ 1:16 Damn Jack, that wasn't in the script.

  • Bob Kane said that if he were to go back, he would've made Joker the killer of Bruce Wayne parents. So stop your bitching.

  • @JRock005 - [citation needed]

  • @JRock005 so does that mean that batman never found the killers

  • @JRock005 but the guy with the gun is jack napier AKA joker

  • @JRock005

But Bob Kane didn't...so he isn't...

I can see why people would bitch,I mean I did when I saw it at the cinema in 89'

  • @JRock005 Anyone have a sources for this? Please thumb's up so that more people can see this and who I am quoting, so that I might be able to read this little factoid!

  • This guy had the perfect face for the Joker, He reminds me of the Joker grafittis or cartoon pictures but without the paint. Goofy but scary fucker at the same time lol. My Opinion

  • @Dougnutjacker people like it because its a brilliant scene it shows why batman works so well because he lost his parents at a very young age and he dresses up as a bat and fights crime so no one can feel the pain and loss that he felt the moment they were murdered

  • what car drives passing by..before his parents killed

  • they said the year is 1963.. but the scene lookd like in 1964 or 1969

  • I always cried when his parents died when I watching this movie as a kid. I was afraid the same thing would happen to my parents.

  • Comment removed

  • for some reason batman's parents must always die in the 1930s

  • I dont care any more for dramatic effect in my personal batman story joker did it. better then just saying some random person shot the bats parent lol who was his dad john lenon without that piece alot of what makes Mr j up as a villian just is not there he needs that kill 2 truly be batmans arch nemesis instead of just a clown so let it be known that i still think this is not the only mention of this story line but that goes 4 all forms of media not just movies.

  • that line about dancing with the devil orginates from an old aborginal or bush people sayng its about facing your deepest fears.I got upset when i was in another blog spot and this guy said this movie is the only reffrence of joker killing bruce waynes parents but that cant be true because even as a kid before i watched the movie i knew joker killed his parents?

  • @102611ful Joker didn't kill his parents in any other version of the story. It was always just some random mugger that was scared and desperately needed money.

  • hey kid you ever dance with the devil by the pale moon light - damn thats some deep shit

  • he had the more crazy look, but jack had it down pack with the jokes.. that joker had.. leger didnt have to many jokes.. but he was good too.. but jack had the more lines that was funny..

  • Killing them in cold blood is much better than being just a thief..and remember this is a flashback so its mostly Bruce's perspective.

  • Jesus, Jack is the Joker. Ok. His little buddy died I think. So The Joker got married before all of that stuff, and he got nervous when they had a child. So his wife told him he should smile more. Then the wife got cut on her face, then The Joker cut his face, but the wife divorced him and he became the Joker. So Jack is the Joker, only THIS is before any of the real terrorism struck. The Dark Knight explains some of this. K, cya around. -:)

  • can someone please explain this whole connection between the three guys, like who is jack napier and joe chill? and what ever happened to them? thanks apreciate it

  • It's possible the other guy was Joe Chill. Since, like in the original comics, he tried to steal Martha Wayne's pearls.

  • jack is better then leger joker.. dark knight was cool but the 1989 joker was way better..

  • @kingmartino83 Dude I loved the 89 movie as well I remember seeing it as a 9 year old and it being my favorite movie at the time, but you can't tell me that Jack was a better Joker than Heath. As good as Jack was he was still pretty much Jack with clown makeup. Heath's Joker was the Joker he didn't even seem like Heath Ledger at all in that movie. Heath really became the Joker. You just have a case of nostalgia.

  • I want to see that guy in full joker makeup... damn thats a creepy smile.

  • ah didnt know the other guy was bob

  • so wait, was that Joker that killed his parents? because that's the same line he used in the old 80's movie.

  • Heath Ledger did a great Joker. Jack Nicholson did so likewise. But I can't help but feel this is the Joker at his psychopathic best.

  • nothing can beat 89'batman...it has got that perfect noir atmosphere!!!

  • @salman4614 And Batman killing more people than Joker.

  • Liked how you kept Michael's expression at the end there. Very moving.

  • @holywoodj completely...michael keaton was the perfect batman, because he portrayed batman's complexity so well

  • Without any exposition, this scene communicates Bruce's psychology in adopting an ominous alter ego like Batman. The way it's shot at a low angle from Bruce's perspective, you get a sense of how small and afraid he felt at that moment. Notice he's also exposed in the light, at the mercy of these guys towering over him in the shadows. Throughout the film, we see the reverse: Batman in the shadows, shot at a low angle from the criminal's perspective.

  • @Secundas the first camera angle shown on screen, is of the family. This shot is looking up at the family. This has two meanings. As they are a rich family, it can show class, structure, with the rich and powerful at the top and the poor down low. this reinforces the theory of Structuralism. It can also mean someone is watching them, and whoever is watching them doesn’t want to be seen, yet

  • Wait a minute... is that gunman hugo weaving? O_o

  • I think it stands out that the joker killed his.. parents and ultimately made him into what he is..fuck samm hamm..his name is about as stupid as your fucking comment you fucking cockrag..if i could change the script of your life I'd let your dad fuck you in the ass alot more then he already did..asshole.

  • i liked the music and the foggyness but there was no characterization of bruces parents at all.....in batman begins they expressed ther personalities more

  • @johnwall2wizards true but this is a flashback sequence to the traumatic event that led Bruce to be the Bat.

  • The director and crew did a great job capturing the scene of parents POV view, emotion between parents and batman as a boy. The videography is awesome as well as the sounds. Npt thrilled about the killing of his parents but everything else. Awesome ....!!!

  • The guy playing the young Nicholson is Hugo Blick; he's now a successful TV producer in the UK

  • Tell me kid. You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?

  • @SuperJJDuB YOU IDIOT! YOU MADE ME! You dropped me into that vat of chemicals.

  • Despite every official source, I still steadfast refuse to believe that the Joker was the murderer of Bruce's parents in the film.

  • @mmmmmmmmmm9999

technically he wasn't the "joker" yet so in a way it still can be said that a random criminal killed his parents.

  • Yo kid, i heard u like batman so i killed yo parents!

  • the actor who plays a young Jack Napier, I wonder if he could have been a better Joker than Jack Nicholson

  • @nobodysperfect06 I'd like to see him do it now. He was great.

  • @nobodysperfect06 His voice was too deep so he wouldn't sound very clownish.

  • This scene isn't realistic the way it's written and directed here. One guy just pulls her necklace off randomly, and Bruce's parents are both shot for no reason, then Jack goes into this weird speech and lets Bruce go?

I have to admit, even Arkham Asylum did a much better job of this scene, and that version was dialogue-only.

  • @raddaluigi

They acknowledged in the film that Napier was psychologically disturbed since his youth, which is well shown here as he doesn't even give Thomas a warning to stop and just shoots the Waynes out of cold blood. And also in the way he smiles. In this version he was insane from the start, but just needed an extra push to fully become the Joker.

  • @raddaluigi Or maybe you just don't get it, kid. It's kind of like what Alfred said in The Dark Knight..... some people just want to watch the world burn. Why wouldn't a murderer want the honor of killing the most important man, Thomas Wayne, in his city? After all, the killer IS the Joker so what's the need for logic behind murdering them? Realism has nothing to do with it. Like I said, you just don't get it son. :)

  • @raddaluigi

how the hell is that unrealistic? They steal her necklace, shoot them both, then taunt the kid about it and bounce. I am pretty sure that can happen in real life....

  • @raddaluigi Well that sorta of the reason why the mugger killed them. for no reason except for his sick amusement.

  • I personally find this scene more chilling than its BATMAN BEGINS counterpart. Joe Chill clearly did the murder out of fear and panic, while hear Jack Napier doesn't even threaten them to stop resisting first, he just shoots them down in cold blood. An action of true evil. I liked how this Joker really was depraved from the start, but just needed a little push to fully become the Joker.

And I'm not trying to knock the BEGINS scene, it to was very well done. This one just sticks more.

  • scary looking dude.. could have been jack Nicholsons son with the way he looks

  • this scene is disturbing, unlike the one in batman begins didn't gave me the creeps.

  • Jack Napier's voice voice when he's at this age is kind of creepy.

  • an for 1989 this was vilent

  • The guy who plays young jack napier looks evil :)

  • @Khorney

You are right! He looks very very sinister!

  • i saw in a comic book that bruce waynes father was the batman at one time bruce rips his own suit and decides to wear his fathers suit and when he faced the batguy the badguy thinks bruce waynes dad id back from the dead for revenge. by the way did anyone see the episode of batman brave and the bold where bruce wayne dies?

  • This guy who plays jack napier should have been casted as the joker.. Look how sinister he looks .. and that smile looks like the joker smile.

  • @MeddleOnline Couldn't agree more. He should've been the Joker. He looks the image of the Joker in cartoon form.

  • Pause at 1:41 and tell me that isn't badass.

  • after the guy killed batman parents he OWNED the killer

  • this was more accurate to the comic but i like the Batman Begins one

  • 1:16 Damn Jack, I thought this was going to just be a simple robbery, not a murder!!!

  • Guys, any argument about the best batman is crazy. George Clooney is CLEARLY the best.

  • I love this line just crazy best movie ever!!

  • when he says see you around kid man that is just stunning it gives the audience chills plus with nicolson he does have to prove he's a psych you can see it in his smile man he's the best the younger jack would made a good joker too

  • I think this is great it explains why batman has such a grudge against the joker and why he is his arch nemises because he caused him to become what he is. Also that you ever dance with the devil by the pale moon light is way better than why so serious. Ray liotta would have been good at the joker too.

  • That famous line to me sounds a lot better than "Why so serious?"

  • @Theshark15z It is probley but Heath Leger is probley the best Joker

  • love Chris Nolan's perception of Batman, but I must say Burton's depiction of this moment is far more haunting and memorable.

  • To the moron with the gun:

Dear Moron.............DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU JUST CREATED HERE?????????????

  • I wonder why Burton choose to ignore the original story and make Joker the Killer of Batman's Parents? Pretty tragic and life changing either way. I actually thought the Guy who shot Bruce's parent would look great in the Joker makeup , back in the day.

  • @jayce79 i think your thinking of spider-man.

  • @jayce79 he would f yah. another person who woulda made a fucken wicked joker back in the day woulda been ray liotta, he definitly woulda been able to make a good joker laugh. and maybe the professor from back to the future?

  • @jayce79 *he would fuck yeah.

  • I kind of get the contreversey over this, but I'll be honest. For years I actually thought that Joker was the killer of Bruce's parents in the comics, because I never heard the name Joe Chill until years later. Mind you I first watched this when I was really young and didn't get into the comics yet and only watched the movies and shows at that point.

But even after learning the truth I love that they added this twist into it. It just adds an extra layer of depth to their relationship.

  • @SLPIFan Very true. In some way or another he always screws with Batman. In the comics he does a lot by killing Jason Todd, crippling Barbara Gordon, and murdering Commissioner Gordon's wife. In The Dark Knight he twisted and corrupted Harvey Dent, Batman's ally. And it's all just so epic.

  • is that the joker who shot bruce's parents?

  • @wogylife yup (in the movie at least). that's the Joker as a young man. ie. as a young Jack Napier.

  • Best Batman movie ever!

  • o:47 the father deserves to die for stealing the poor little kid's popcorn

  • Bob Kane actually said that if he were to restart the Batman comics he WOULD HAVE had the Joker be the killer of Batman's parents.

  • bruce should have tried to track down the guy who killed his parents and rip him apart

  • even before the joker fell in chemicals he was a messed up son of a b**ch

  • young Bruce Wayne is walking out of a movie with his mom and dad, when they are cornered and robbed at gunpoint by Jack Napier "The Joker" and Joe Chill.

  • this is why the joker is a bad mofo

  • Brilliant!! Great job,awesome quality!!!;D~Lady T;D

  • Only cheap pearl necklaces snap like that.

Also the Joker was never the Waynes' killer. BOOSH.

  • I remember they did one in batman forever. It was two face who killed them. I think that scene happened in a cemetery or an alley not sure.

  • And thus Batman was born

  • This is classic!

  • joker had always been the one that killed bruce's parents

  • I love that blonde, he was a swedish model :D

  • @harliette really? whats his name?

  • @QuetzalDeLaCielo you could find him in google shruggs

  • In the canon of the comics this happened at 10:47 PM. At 10:47 PM one day in my life my mother told me my father had decided to divorce her. 10:47 PM is a very unlucky time.

  • I think all the batman movies are great.people say the dark knight sucks but u and both know that's bull.they have $millions of reasons why it didn't suck. People favor the classic because well it's ...classic. Christian bale is better (in my opinion).he fits

The rich guy look and is just a plain badass.

  • my only problem is that there is supose 2 b only 1 person robbin his parents an it deff wuznt the joker

  • my most favourite scene out of all the batman films! burton captured his parents death dark and grim how it should be! a million times more depressing than nolans depiction.

  • Now I am not a hater. I love both movies, both directors, and both Jokers. I just like the death scene a little more but still I like them both.

  • if this was real this will be really sad

  • Comment removed

  • "Have you ever danced with the devil in the moonlight?" Thats what the joker asked batman.

  • just enjoy wat if batman's parents were never killed?

  • is this also the same scean they showed in Batman Forever??? i know Foreverer's one was shorter but was it this but cut a little?

  • This is the better death scene of Bruce's parents. Although it may not be as realistic it has a much more haunting feel. It also adds more emotion to the story because his dual with the Joker is personal.

  • @madmethod21 I agree. Also, what is "realistic"? We have to suspend our belief that a man in a cowl is jumping on rooftops at night anyway. I think we can handle a little decor for the scene. I'm just don't find the new "realistic" movies interesting. unless they mean "bland".

  • Muggers wearing suits? You wouldn't see that shit nowadays.

  • @TheWorstWarlock actually, I do, all the time.

  • is this saying that the joker killed his parents not joe chill, im confused, still good scene.

  • the other mugger is Joe Chill, I don't think that he is Bob the goon.

  • @Mangler312 i also heard (and later read) that Bob Kane HIMSELF said that if he ever rewrote Batman's origin story (and/or had the chance to rewrite it, and/or could ever [get the chance to] rewrite it), he'd have THE JOKER (aka. Jack Napier) be the murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents and not Joe Chill! O_O

  • @Mangler312 shame that the scene in batman returns where he just sits there in his dark friggin ballroom waiting till the batsign comes on cost him his job.. they found mike keaton too depressing so they discontinued his friggin contract and gave it to fuckin george clooney or first to that other nobody

  • @Mangler312 "The idea of him bein the one who capped Bruce's parents was sick" More like retarded. This wasnt in the script Sam Hamm wrote.

  • Nah. It was sick....

  • @Mangler312

i like both versions of all the characters! but the fight scenes are way cooler in The dark knight!!!

  • @Mangler312 This was a great movie, but overall I just don't think it's aged well. Nowadays people recognize Batman in a realistic setting. Tim Burton's Batman is too much like a comic book for me to watch it now. And I really didn't like the idea of Joker being the one who killed Bruce's parents, it's too convenient and cliche.

  • @CCrockyourass I disagree. You'd be surprised at how high the demand is for a comic accurate Batman film. Outside of Hollywood you have the DC animated films as well as the best seller, Arkham Asylum video game, really making people realize how much more fascinating the Batman Universe truly is. Many of us are waiting for an actual film where the characters, story and events aren't as heavily modified as they are in every Batman film that was ever made.

  • @MisterMeddle A film audience is vastly different from a comic audience. That's why the DCAU and Arkham Asylum are comic accurate and the films aren't. And how are you disagreeing with me? All I said was I don't think Burton's movie has aged well and you basically said you don't like the movies.

  • @CCrockyourass Where did I state that I don't like the films? That is why you shouldn't assume or over analyze somebody's choice of words. If it weren't for the comic fans there would be no Batman films or Batman in general. Who were all of these people that were overly hyped about Batman Begins' film release before the film was released to attract new casual fans? You don't need to read a comic to know how much more fascinating the Batman Universe truly is. Did u ever watch Spider-man 2?

  • @MisterMeddle You blatantly said "Many of us want an actual film where shit isn't heavily modified like EVERY BATMAN FILM EVER MADE." I think it's pretty clear, to ANYBODY reading that, to think you don't like the movies.

  • @CCrockyourass Based on how angry you sound and due to your responses, I'm getting the impression you don't talk to many people. Of course. That's why you never heard of appreciating and enjoying something while giving fair criticism. Only a dumbass would think otherwise. Congratulations, kid.

  • @CCrockyourass While I respect your opinion, I believe it's completely wrong. Nolan was the one who set the realistic tone for his films only, not the Batman Universe as a whole. Fantasy films and films with exaggerated events are pretty common in Hollywood and super hero films, yes even the ones that receives high praise and high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. A comic accurate Batman film would not be out of the ordinary for movie fans.

  • @MisterMeddle Not that it would be out of the ordinary. But a movie audience would identify more with a realistic setting. That's why Nolan's films have such. Batman has ALWAYS had a realistic tone. Otherwise Batman would have actual superpowers. Everything in the Batman universe is plausible. Besides, it's not like the Nolanverse doesn't have its exaggerated stuff and fantasies.

  • @CCrockyourass CockInMyAss's second comment.... did you just get into Batman? Most of the fans are older. They're well aware of what Batman is outside of the universe. As for the younger fans, hmmm yup too bad the kids never watched the cartoons or play the video games. Regardless of Batman's dark tone in the 89 and Returns film as well as the cartoon series, people still paid top dollar to see Batman Forever which had a different approach. No matter what Batman is marketable in film.

  • @MisterMeddle Learn what to say instead of posting, deleting, and posting again. Get it right the first time. You're flooding my inbox with responses.

And quit with the "I respect your opinion" bullshit. This isn't an intelligent political debate club. We're talking about a fucking comic book character here. You're making yourself sound pretentious.
