We are using a naturally hydraulic lime plaster for all three coats. The first two coats have a larger grained sand and the final finish coat uses a much finer graded sand.
This is also Montpelier in Virginia (USA). It was the home of James Madison (4th president of US and architect of the US constitution) and is open to the public for tours.
Virginia Lime Works, and Price Masonry Contractors, sure know their mud. Hey, I like the mortar wagon.
