  • After the accident, he said "little crash"... My father knew him. :)

  • so he dies 5 years later racing - perhaps this is god saying look for another career in the future .

  • that could be me...79 accidents on 2,3 million km and nothing happend to me!

  • he did it 4 tha lulz

  • Wow, lucky that time. . .Crashes like that back in those days usually meant serious injury or worse.

  • Sadly he died a few years later from another crash

  • IM sure he got out so fast because he knew the risk of the car exploding from leaking fuel onto a hot engine or exhaust.

  • hïhi_pásst_híër_ñët_rèín_âbå_ích_biñ_só_èïñsám_wìll_jêmánd_mìt_mìä_schrëîbêñ

  • Unbelieveable. How fast he get out of his car after that crash.. Amazing!

  • when he hit the wall my blood just froze...but when i saw him running out of there i just started laughing :D joy/amusement...just liek he would grab a new car and say "zomg somebody giev me a new ride ffs i just totaled the first one and i wanna win this" :D

  • @ vikingar1988 hasch du gekifft :D der is der flugplatz!

  • poor mandred he died 5 years later

  • This is the Jump Hill "Quiddelbacher Höhe" After this came the Flugplatz

  • Nordsleife? You mean Nordschleife.

  • @1D0N Tool? Sorry I mean small petty minded spelling pedant. I'd love to spell check everything you ever wrote on the Internet, but sadly I don't give enough of a fuck.

  • THATS NOT A F2 IS A PLANE

  • According to the legend, his first words to the crowd after he got out, were:Did you Photografed?

  • good old flugplatz

  • Just after the accident, Manfred was angry. Later he began to realize what really happened and that he was very lucky to survive that crash.... .

  • That used up about 8 of his 9 lives.

  • Did he run to get a new car? ;)

  • @TheNovum lol =)

  • nbelievable

  • I remember this crash, but I was a child so I always thought it was a F1 crash with ATS team. Great Manfred rip

  • God DAMN! How can he not even be dizzy after that? Incredible!

  • wow, awful crash, now i know why that corner is really called Flugplatz (which is German for "airfield")

    RIP

  • Rest in peace Manfred, great driver.

  • esse cara com certeza não era daqui

  • It's the NORDSCHLEIFE and NOT NORDSLEIFE

  • A brave guy - so tragic to die at Mosport in a sports car five years later

  • I don't know what or who to thank....Still alive, hard to believe but he made it :)

  • I have that on tape on Havoc 12, was never quite sure if it was f1 or f300, now i can see it was neither lol

  • HVAC videos, I remember those!

i was a kid and used to always rent them at my local video store! good times.

  • SIMPLEMENTE INCREIBLE !!

  • ive never seen any footage of his fatal crash at mosport park, surely there would have been cameras on track.

  • to gdgdgfdggfdfg - HI! time ago while

surfing through YT I could watch a footage about a 956 Porsche going off track (suspension failure apparently).

It was for sure Winkelhock or possibly Stommelen's fatal crash.

Alas I have never been able to get it again on YT: if by chance you'll find it out

I'd feel thankful if you'll let me know. Thx.

  • Stommelen died when the rear wing of his Porsche 935 broke and his car slammed into a concrete barrier at Riverside, so that must have been Winkelhock's accident.

  • @Vallecrash - thx.for infos.

Incredibly Stoomelen had already suffered a nearly fatal accident in F1 at Montjuich circuit just because loosing his rear wing or backflap.

  • Lucky here - not so lucky at Mosport unfortunately.

  • And he just walks away :O

  • THAT WAS A VERY HORRIBLE CRASH !!!

  • SURVIVOR!!!

  • i think that is his F1 Arrows, not an F2.....

  • its F2

  • ese no es el papá del de europa 2007

  • salió caminando como si no le hubiese pasado nada :O

  • a prodigy that he survived this crash with this old cars

  • He died in another accdident in a sportscar race at Mosport, RIP.

  • Pai do Mito.

  • Grande Manfred!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im guessing this was caused by ground effects and sliding skirts glad they banned those

  • RIP

  • if iam correct didnt they run a s curve in front of that now or flatten it out??

  • not really as you could see at the Jumping Aston Martin at the 24 hour race.

  • they definatly flattened the bump, im not sure about an s bend that does seem to ring a bell though

  • Yes it is. Niki Lauda had his bad crash on this track. I am from Germany but i never went there. Hope to do so soon ^^

  • i know iam not spelling this right..floop flats

  • lol, that's cute. It's actually Flugplatz which means airport.

  • Thanks for teh correct way to say it..ya i know :) I mangle english as well

  • I hope he has put his steering wheel back or he will be fined. LOL

  • That's the fastest I've ever seen someone get out of a car. Wow,

  • oh yes... it´s awesome, becouse of this horrible crash!

  • @BurrsTheClown

    Gilles Villeneuve was faster XDD

  • @GetawayMTA remove your unuseful comment

  • @BurrsTheClown That's probably because there's no more car to get out from ;-)))

  • @BurrsTheClown

There was nearly nothing to get out of :)

  • logn is this Nordschleife!!!

    @ the Flugplatz

  • oh my god! very hard :O *****

  • Manfred Winkelhock without final s

  • That old Nordschleife was dangerous... :(

Incredible to see him survive this. Unluckily he was killed later anyway... =/

  • I'm from germany and i can guarranty that this is the nordschleife it was closed for f1 but not for f2

  • Correct, if I'm right F2 races were held until 1983 where the last 1000km race was held at the Nordschleife as well with Bellof's fantastic 6:11.13 qualifying lap.

From 1984 on they raced on the new GP circuit.

This crash happenend in 1980, caused by a little touch after the start in the first corner (the old 270° righthander). Manfred damaged his front wing there

  • non mais franchement tu te dis trop que le mec il est mort!!! mais pas sonné...

  • he died?

  • he died driving a porsche

  • He was so fucking lucky:S

  • He kelled in another crash in 1985...

  • The Winkelhock Family had Lot of Things Happen at the Nurburgring like his son Markus who lead in his Debut.

  • yea but he blew the engine it was because of Spyker couldnt handle so much pressure

  • thats why the nur is dangerous....

  • big crash lucky to escape

i think though in a few years time he is not so lucky and he dies in a wsc event maybe in 1985

  • that was "stefan bellof"...

    not winkelhock

  • ....who dies in 1985

  • both bellof and winkelhock and i was talking about winkelhock i'm not sure when he dies but bellof dies at spa at eau roge 85 is it

  • right here we go

Bellof died at Eau Rouge in 1985 in a customer porsche 956 and collided with factory rothmans porsche driver ickx

manfred winkelhock died at the Budweiser 1000 km World Sportscar Championship event in canada driving a customer Porsche 956.

  • Manfred Winkelhock died driving a Porsche 962 not a 956.

Front right tire explode and he hit the concrete wall at around 250km/h.

  • F2 car? I've never heard of that! Someone explain?

  • surely you could look it up on google or wikipedia?

  • Surely that's a great idea. Just after I asked the question, I remembered there's no excuse for ignorance now that there's wiki. Sorry for my stupid quetion. hAHA!

  • The fact that cars had a habit of frying you in-situ in the 70's and 80's meant if you were conscious and could still move, you got out.... and quick! It focuses the mind.

  • i guess he caught some air then? 2 things that were freaky. 1 is as you say how did he climb out but i suppose back in 1980 race car construction was still adequate (obviously) for this crash. look at it. It may look horrific enough to cause death but the front

  • wing touched and absorbed so much of the crash, because it made the car go to the ground mega quick. It was cartwheeling and rolling. If it didn't roll it could have been a gilles villenueve. and then when it rolls on the ground it didn't impact the fence bank

  • until it slowed right down and even then the wheels rode the bank. A very good outcome and lucky escape. 2 even if it is f2 how could it flip with a rear and front wing. Yes it may have been on the brow of the hill which obviously enough but gilles villenueve and patrese and more recent only flipped when they made contact.

  • wtf...he climbs out of the car

  • Thanks, I've been looking for this since 2003 :)

  • Well, a few years later he died as well

  • holy. shitting. christ.

  • Bloody hell.

  • Really unusual that a driver just jumps out of the car after a crash like THAT! As if he just bumped into a straw bale with a soapbox car.

  • 5 years later he died... =(

  • Wtf ?! How he can survive the crash like that !?

  • He was lucky that the car didn't hit the wall too hard. The energy was killed by the "soft" rolls. The car rolled along the wall instead of smashing into it. I'm sure it was still pretty hard though.

  • lol....flugplatz.....nomen est omen

  • Wow! He jump out the car before it even stop rolling good! Amazing that he wasn't killed! I guess that's one reason why formula cars don't race on the mountain course anymore.

  • nowadays they have downforce

  • I guess the wings on the car have escaped your attention? In fact it looks like one of the front wings is damaged, but either way, cresting a rise like that is still risky. Back from the good old, bad old days of catch fencing!

  • Yeah,if a front wing is damaged,it loses downforce and there you go

  • yes, and if you remove the rear wing too in a modern F1 car, you'd insert 3rd gear already stuck in the stands :P

  • WOW he got out of that car unharmed!

  • He survived! Unbeliveble

  • he just walk away! a crash like that and in that years? i thougt he would be dead after that crash

  • The old 1980 F2 cars shouldn't have allowed him to get out unhurt...christ!

  • amazing how fast he could get out of the car after a crash like that!

  • Yeah, he walked away, but died in a sports car crash at mosport in 1985 anyways.

  • HE WALKED AWAY FROM THAT!!!!!.... HOLY SHIT! and during those years crashes like that would result in a fatality or a near fatal, career ending crash. really amazing!

  • Unterluft.
