This video is my favorite of yours by far! Really getting out into deep waters! makes me miss the midwest (I'm from Wisconsin and live in Colorado). I've just started my build tonight. I am starting with a small schooner (USS Revenge) as a learning experience building from scratch. Your videos have convinced me that 1/24th is the way to go! If this build goes well, get ready for a monster 1/24th USS Constitution.
@16FEET We are loading BP with a small piece of magicians flash paper and to fire the guns we have a short piece of Nichrome wire that is heated with an electrical charge through a rotary switch and a servo to operate it. You can only load and fire single shots with this method and we go back to shore to reload. We never fire projectiles for obvious safety reasons. All this is documented in a thread but I cannot attach the address here, you have to send me a personal e-mail for that info.
Tropdars--it was a kit from SC&H in Palo Alto CA. I have a friend who has a kit for sale if you are interested. They run about $4,500 for a frigate and somewhat less for a Brig.
Check out SC&H and there are several threads in RC Groups under Scale Sailing boats. Have a squiggy at that thread and you will find a bunch of information about building them. I wish YouTube would allow a thread address but they don't, you will have to find it or PM me and I will put you on to a bunch of them.
@tropdars They are single shot guns and we have to go back to the shore to reload. They are complicated enough without trying to come up with an auto feed on them, but they are fun never the less.
@aVenezuelanGuy The guns operations are more complicated to write about here. If you can send me an e-mail address I will send you some links that explain the guns and their operations.
Here is the thing: I'm getting in i all this rc naval combat and i recently got a wooden model of a XVIII century frigate. it sails really well but i dont know how to do to sail and shoot at same time as in your video =S. excuse me for such a silly question but you know when you'r a begginner everything looks really difficult =/
@aVenezuelanGuy I use a gimbals (Pan and Tilt) mechanism from Servo City with a second radio. The camera is attached to the top of the gimbals and I turn it on then begin to sail. When I am doing the video taping from the boat or shore I set the ship on a course and shoot some video then go back and concentrate on the ship. Sometimes my wife does the video work if I am working on a complicated manuver. I hope this helps.
Love the videos!! Are the flashpowder carronades something that came with a kit or home made? Having recently moved to Portsmouth, VA I have gotten the opportunity to see some historical schooners and a brig docked for events here. I never knew there was a subculture of RC sailing ships with such detail and working models. I am impressed.
Thank you sir. The carronades are built by various modelers, they do not come with the kits. If you are interested in building one of these visit the SC&H Ltd site for the ship kits and link to the thread to get a feel of what the modelers are doing.
Come on with the sound editing. At 1:50 the music enters the second slower movement, but then the video shows the cannons starting their battery firing! Perhapse something with a kettle drum instead of french horns for that would be something to consider. The alkward zooming and panning is not what I have come to expect from this filmmaker now, although I suspect that adjustments for distance and weather had a lot to do with the camera work. Pretty cool overall.

@Strelnikov10 PM me and I will put you on to a thread of someone building a similar model in 1:36 scale of the USS Constellation.

Fantastic. I would like to know how your firing system is setup. I currently run a 1/144 Bismarck for RC combat.

Are the cannons only good for one broadside or do they have some reloading mechanism?

@formerparatrooper Does a boat like that come in a kit or do you have to build it from scratch?

The master and commander of the brig Syren built his carronades. I plan to mount working carronades on Surprise late this winter.
