I just saw Horacio Franco's performance of Vivaldi's "Il Cardellino" in NYC and I must say ... the orchestra was mesmerized, the audience motionless holding its breath and then went absolutely wild - the applause just never stopped. This performance was beyond description - to say virtuouso is falling short of what this man did. And it was a sopranino recorder :-)
@Hajnalka4 I don't know, my opinion is hardly reliable under soprano size, since this is the shortest one on which I have enough room to put my fingers ;-)
This is one of the most talented musicians I have ever heard to. Those ones who dislike this, better you go and comment in Justin Bieber´s videos, cause this man has an amazing career as a musician. He just plays with styles and I love it. He transmits his energy in concerts.
Here you see and hear an interpretation of the most bad kind you can imagine: musn't it be: not the singer but the song? This is circus and even more badly done
LOVE IT!!!!! I don't care if you call it "wild", "maverick" or "rogue"... or awful crap... I am so glad seeing people finally have great fun with Baroque Music. May performers keep liberating Baroque music from tight corsets that we have put upon it. Try listening to Les Boreades de Montreal.
@recorderfan yes so terrible that perhaps he should have been taken out side, shot, and burned. The performance was a travesty that will live in infamy for all the history of man kind, LOL. some people perhaps like recorderfan needs to get his myopic head unstuck from being up his rear end.
I'm all for personality in baroque music. Indeed, the more the merrier. BUT, and this is a big BUT, it has to be done with genuine musical artistry, not just difference and weirdness for differences and weirdnesses sake.

WOW !!!!
¡¡¡¡¡Pobre Vivaldi!!!
It unfortunately comes off more untidy than wild! With the soloist and orchestra often not agreeing on tempo, it sounded more like a duel than an ensemble. I wonder if they had had much of an opportunity to rehearse together?
Also, if the 3rd octave stunt notes in the cadenza can't be played in tune, perhaps it would have been better to have crafted a different cadenza?
I love experimental music for recorder and certainly do not have anything against frullato, multiphonics, glissandi and xth upper register playing, but their ectensive use in a baroque concerto can hardly result in anything than a meretricious and cruel parody. Amazing technique, but amazing lack of tone quality as well.
@zcrzcr Yes, it is a strange combination of virtuosic technique and poor tone quality with lack of taste, beauty, grace, sensitivity, humility and style ... One should be sensitive to and led by the composer's intentions ...
Quite right ...! The orchestra were all so stunned at the cadenza that they couldn't come in for a moment! - Trisdee couldn't keep a straight face :) Somtow

artistic!
EvaBartosova 2 years ago
This is Il Gardellino -- the goldfinch, Vivaldi's flute concerto in imitation of the goldfinch's song.
To me, it seems the artist is taking the idea to an ultimate evolution by tweeting it out.
I must say it does sound like bird song (and birds sing like that -- a bit musically messy).
This performance is not 'historically informed' baroque; it is FUN.
