Mgs3 ending was really sad for me, they all have really touching moments, but that part where you shoot the boss was so much more, felt like I knew her myself, and it actually forces you to push the button to kill her, poor Naked Snake, I don't think Solid Snake as good as he is could do it!

Saddest for me was definately Sniper Wolf's death. I've never been so emotional over a video game. It was such an intense boss fight, you couldn't see her thanks to the camera and snowstorm, and Meryl was bleeding/almost dying from a wound. Which was intentional by Sniper Wolf, to lure Snake out in the open, so you had to watch & let Meryl suffer. And the wolves howling. I made snake take a diapam from the inventory and carefully tried to snipe her.

Then that sad cutscene happens after I "win".

Technically, the story of the games after the first Metal Gear Solid go by the ending where you save Meryl, so, in reality, she only dies if you let her, but MGS4 goes based on you saving her. By that point, you still think she's a real traitor, and while it is poignant the way Snake finally sees his mentor off, you're still pissed from the incredibly difficult boss battle, and you have no idea what's really going on.
