all those whistles going sounds like Ths Scala cinema in October 1990 when Donnie visited the U.K. I remember that day well and the dinner at Cheung's chinese restaurant the night before...Donnie was a cool guy...and The Scala was THE place for REAL fans of H.K cinema
Yeah i agree and im a big fan of jet as well. Donnie is more well rounded, he looks good in a number of martial arts styles. I think Donnie would of been a better fit for Fist of Legend as well.
they both have their own style. Donnie is more of an evolutionary fighter and adapts to new martial arts like MMA and stuff while Jet Li has more of a traditional martial taste. Jackie, Jet, and Donnie are awesome
he doesnt train much *sarcasm* lol incredible! strong great and beautifull with his martial arts, he is a great fighter and my fave martial artist! GO DONNIE!
To be a main character needs somethings good not just strong at one thing. First of all, you need to know how to act the character who you supose to be. Most of people over do or not reach what they should be. Sorry about Doonie! I enjoy every moives under his directe. (And forgive my English, please!)
i definitely agree with you theres a reason why Michelle Yeoh said the same exact statement of being the quickest martial artist she ever seen and shes worked with Jet Li, Sammo Hung, and Jackie Chan so i doubt she would be lying
but i respect all martial artists that stay true to themselves and the art
@foonyewkid from what i know, he chose to not stay in hollywood due to their working methods, hence he's relatively "unknown" amongst western people. however, donnie's name is right up there amongst jackie chan and jet li when it comes to popularity in asia.
"DY's signature kicks came from his study of Tae-kwon-do."
it came mainly from wushu as that style requires stretching legs to perform gracefully and difficult kicking. tae kwon do made his kicking look quite different in execution, that's just that. he also went on to study other styles that required different kicking techniques.
Lots of misinformation here: DY was born in Guangdong and raised in Boston and then moved to Beijing (age 14). He studied w/ Jet Li's sifu (not shaolin masters) although the two (JL and DY) were not classmates because Jet is older. DY's signature kicks came from his study of Tae-kwon-do. Yuen Wo Ping spotted DY when he was 19 and doing stunt work for movies in Hong Kong. Made him a star and the rest is history.
JL is not older than DY, they were both born in 1963. Also Yuen Woo Ping was told about DY by Yuen's sister who studied Tai Chi with Bow Sim Mark who is DY's mother. Then he started doing stuntwork for Yuen on Miracle Fighters(1982), then got his first lead role in Drunken Tai Chi(1984).
"you just cant compare his achievements with Jet Lee that already at age of 9 was a Boy wonder And studied with real shaolin masters and won a few World Kung fu championships"
That's the sport thing you're talking about. Donnie coverted into almost every style so that makes him obviously much superior. very few (except Bruce Lee) has had the training and knowledge in MA like Donnie so you actually can compare this to Jet's achievements, and that's nothing huge like Donnie's.
"The thing is he just Wanted to look Better instead of going all out like Jet lee did And so he gained Mass and lost speed compared to him."
lost speed? ever seen vids outside the movies or even bts footage of his latest movies? he's deadly fast and sharp with movements and attacks. Jet however has lost some steps in comparison while Donnie is still as fast and fit as ever.
Donnie is Great Both as an Martial artist and as athlete
The thing is he just Wanted to look Better instead of going all out like Jet lee did And so he gained Mass and lost speed compared to him.
His legs are really great though and dont get me wrong But you just cant compare his achievements with Jet Lee that already at age of 9 was a Boy wonder And studied with real shaolin masters and won a few World Kung fu championships (Exhibition of styles/weapons).
Jet Li did NOT study at Shaolin or with real Shaolin masters. It was destroyed by the Red Guard during the Cultural Revolution. The last monks were arrested and imprisoned for life. So unless Jet has a time machine I don't see how it is possible. Also he was 11 when he won his first medal, and all his medals were in National and Chinese championships for Wushu, not World Kung Fu championships.
Donnie was indeed great in wushu but the problem was that he was/is a mixed stylist and therefore wasn't as edgy as Jet Li in wushu. But I think it was good that he converted into a more contemporary style anyways, no one can move or attack the way like Donnie.
Donnie Yen was raised exclusively wushu. His mother is Bow Sim Mark. She is a living legend of Chinese martial arts, especially combined tai chi. He may have picked up a thing or two here and there as far as other styles, but he is a kung fu master all the way. People think that Chinese martial arts doesn't have trapping, ground fighting, etc. Not true at all. The best MMA fighter in the world today wouldn't have stood a chance against the Iron Butterfly
Jet was and is far better at wushu, but Donnie is a superior athlete. Watch Shaolin Temple if you want to see Jet. He moved with twice the speed, and was more flexible. Donnie is a bit stronger, and he looks as if he would be a better fighter.
They were not with the same school. Donnie studied for a very, very short time with Jets teacher, but Donnie's teacher was his mother, where Jet Li's teacher was Wu Bin, the top wushu coach in the world for many years in Beijing. Donnie lived in Boston most his life. Watch Jet when he was 25. He was just as impressive. Not the strength, but twice the speed
Ahhhhh!!!! THat is SO COOL!! Thanks for sharing!

Donnie yen is great. he kicks is extremely fast, very much teakwon-do like. but he is more accomplished as he also studied wushu.
a best mix of traditional and modern street
fighting sytle.
Honestly, havent seen anybody who is so nimble
and fast (at least on screen)
true martial artist albeit average actor.
best martial art skill but not as lucky as
jet li and jacky chan. (on screen at least)
foonyewkid 4 years ago 7
"not as lucky" is by his own choice. Donny chose to do more work behind the camera.

Who told you these things ?
You mean there were no Shaolin monks around After the temple burned down ?
Are there no monks there these days ?
I think someone misinformed you cause there still are And as a matter of fact my friend's teachers go there almost every year and meet with them.
Yes it was at 11 he won his medals but was exceptional at age of 9 or even younger.
And if Best Kung fu championships were not in China (at least back then) i don't know maybe they were on a different planet..
