  • Initially, Undercliffe was a debtor's prison. That is what it was originally built for. I knew a teacher in Meriden who got sent there with his mother.

  • i also reember we was out front playing we saw a BIG wisp nest and i thow my sake board at it and the staff made me go get it and when i did man the wisp was pissed and attacted me i grad the board and ran right up the stairs and in the door while the staff and other kids watched i wasnt there very long thought i got moved to diffent placce till i turned 18 so tell me anyone here or worked there or any kids on here who gone there too do u remember we moved from russlle hall in cvh

  • wow i just found out it it was Henry D. • My sister worked there when she was a teen during the height of it's occupation..she had had TB and recovered so it was not a threat to her..I always used to close my eyes when we drove by there, it scared me

  • My mom worked here as a secretary in the 60s and 70s. We would visit as children. Nothing scary except someone in the hall talking to the wall. :-)

  • me and my buds used to go up there all the time as kids and play around never seen anything out of the ordinary tho we didn't even know what it was at the time

  • Undercilff was originally a tuberculosis sanitarium in the 1930's and 40's. When TB became treatable it was turned into a mental health facility

  • @austincossette1 Not really, gotta find a broken window or climb a bit to hop in. It's so sketch inside, don't go inside.

  • been in there several times. It was sort of an insane assylum way back when. They put retarded kids, and adults also people with tb etc. So most went crazy after they had been there. Some where nuts before though. We camped out in the building overnight on several occassions.

  • I had a friend that lived near this place back in 1988. His uncle worked in this facility back in the late 80s early 90s. I have heard that it was an insane asylum back in the way day but from the late 80s-early 90s was a detention center for troubled children, recovering drug addicts. I stopped by there recently with a few guys and out of nowhere 2 cop cars (one state one meriden) sped up to us. Gave us a lecture and told us to leave. I had my Canon HF200 rollin and was hoping to go inside.

  • @thrasher123 Way back in the 30's and 40's i have read it was also for children who were sick with illnesses and a lot of those children died there.

  • @hydes2010 I came for a visit and stopped by this place again in Jan2011 and this time some guy in a Dodge Charger followed me. Little did I know it was a state trooper!!! hahahaha. once again told to keep out but the cop was cool. said its because people have gotten hurt and the insurance carrier is getting claims, etc... very interesting though, I'm a sucker to all things abandoned. The mystery and history just gets me.
