You would benefit from making the antenna resonant without the ATU. All it does it make the transmitter see 50ohms, so if the antenna isn't resonant it will be very inefficient and cause interference to others. Always work on the aerial and you will really boost your range. The ATU doesn't tune the antenna, it just matches impedances. Get a decent antenna analyser to set everything up and put the ATU to one side as you will not need it and ALL your power will be transmitted.
Yes, it's illegal..And yes, if i get caught i got a fine. About 20 years ago there was also a change you had go to prison too. Not anymore now, the fine is around 500-1000 euro.
It depends if you had coursed interference.
But if you are active on FM the fine can be much higher: up to € 50.000!!
That's when you get caught many times in a row.
Some NL pirates on FM are using transmitters up to 20 KW!. With antenna masts high as 100 meters...
@mustardsucks In the UK (England&Wales)you are prosecuted and the fine is up to £5000,not including costs that can be applied for by OFCOM and/or up to 6months in prison. It's possible that could be a suspended sentence, so if you are caught again or commit any other criminal offences the sentence is activated and can run alongside each other or one after the other. Legal stations put pressure on OFCOM to prosecute pirates as they somehow think we don't have a choice of who we want to listen to!
sounds good but in next video show how the transmitter is made and put up and how its linked to the arieal back at the studio and all other stuff we dont see on how they realy get a pirate station going would be good as most people would like to see how its all setup and how it works
Hi, I made this video's with a rather simple photocamera with video function. Planning to made a new clip with a 'professional' camera and replace the old clips for this new one including all TX and antenna's.
Yes, you are right about this ATU. But i only use this to get the antenna resonant on several freq. without need to adjust, or use another antenna.
The antenna is resonant at 6250 khz, but with the ATU, i can switch to 49 m band without problems for the tx. Because he thinks to 'see' 50 ohms...
I know this is not the best solution, only the easy way!

i want to make an analog tv station when the US goes digital how do i start?
dasgemuse 3 years ago
Low power Analog tv is still be aloud as long as u have ir Ham licenses
Kcy101 3 years ago
Superb, when do you have it tuned in? I wouldnt mind rxin too it. One for the book eh! Homebrew TX i guess? What type of antenna is it running thru?
cutterschoicenotmine 4 years ago
Thanks for the nice comment!
It's a homebrewed TX indeed.
Most pirates are on air during weekends.
Antenna for SW: ¼ wave dipole. For MW: longwire, 42 long, and 31 meters high.

good stuff, will tune in, you run a clean setup there, nice ham house ;-) i take it ur using ex military, is that the modulator or amplifier?
cutterschoicenotmine 4 years ago
The piece of equipment with the VU meter is the modulator.
I have another video on you tube with a Rohde & Schwartz transmitter, this is a old German army transmitter. ( build 50's - 60's)
Also in use a General Electric TX, ex US army. (build in 1943!)

yes mate, that is so cool that you are still here doing what you do.big respect to you and excellent music too.

hey , can i make a broadcast transmitter from a cb radio ?
reckonman 4 years ago
No..that's not a good idea.
Better look for some old army or marine stuff.
Like they sell at a store as 'ELEKTRODUMP'in NL
(google for the internet adres)
ap9417 4 years ago
out of curiosity, why wont a cb radio work? specially the old types that use crystals?
xUltraVioletDreamx 3 years ago
There are no pirate music stations at the 11M. band.
Perhaps it's possible to rebuild a cb radio for use in the 48M. (by using a converter)
Better use a old 'Sommerkamp' tranciever, or a old marine TX..
ap9417 3 years ago
you are the coolest. i want to make one of these.
how strong of a signal does it put out? how far do you think it'd broadcast within the realm of consumer grade shortwaves?
ryanstively 4 years ago
Well, it's only amateur radio, so it has not the high power as the professional broadcasters.
But using 500 watts like i do, it's possible receiving this signal troughout whole Europe.
And if you use a good communation receceiver with a good antenna, reception is possible worlwide!
ap9417 4 years ago
Nice, I assume you're AM ??
mower10 4 years ago
Yep, it's AM. On mediumwave 1400-1660 khz.
On Shortwave 76M, (3900-3950 Khz) 48M, (6200-6400 Khz)
and 19M (15.070 Khz.)
