I think you (and Dawkins) are wrong about needing an explanation for an explanation. For example, if you're studying brain chemistry and you notice that a person sneezes every tie you inject them with Chemical X, then the best explanation is that Chemical X is causing the person to sneeze EVEN IF you don't have any clue as to why or how the chemical works.
Rather, "magic" is a bad explanation for a variety of other reasons: It doesn't fit with our background knowledge, it's untestable, etc.
Decha, I think you need a different word for what you call objectivism. Absolutism is about as accurate, and the word isn't taken. Not a perfect term for it, but I can't think of better.
Aught from an is is kind of like solipsism. It's technically true... but it's also something no-one except the severely mentally ill really care about. It's a bit of philosophical minutiae that simply makes the statement "There is no objective morality." Kind of like solipsism is a reminder that "No truth can be absolutely known, apart from our own minds."
Anyone who tries to make a bigger deal of either of them, is just getting mired down in philosophical quicksand.
what pokemon do is actually metamorphosis, like how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. I can only imagine that the term got mistranslated into "evolve," since the most basic definition of evolve is "change," and it just stuck for all this time.
WAFA SULTAN the Syrian born former muslim who now lives in the United States and has medical practise insists that: "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MODERATE MUSLIM". She explains that the Quran demands obedience to it's writings. These writings demand that the muslim be terroristic. She DOES admit that many muslims appear moderate especially if they live in countries where they don't have a majortiy. However a true practising muslim can never be a moderate. The Quran just doesn't allow for it..
It's pretty much the same with all religions following the Blood God of the Middle East. Thankfully, there are plenty of moderates in every one of those religions who don't practice the worst parts of their holy writings. "True" or not, they're better people than their fundamentalist and radical fellows. I certainly promote moderate theists over "true" ones.
I have no idea where you got that notion. I agree that their holy writings are nasty, but I think you're being a bit extreme with "All true Muslims have to be terrorists". This attitude only breeds more hate, when we need to be encouraging moderate Muslims.
What does the opinion of a few matter against mainstream consensus when it comes to religion? Religions are more than their scribblings. There are countless moderate Muslims who disagree with you, her, and the radicals.
@Anon11674 Again thank you for your response. I can see that you are "Dug in and wedded to your position" nothing I can say will move you. If you are at all interested watch this video: watch?v=Ib9rofXQl6w
Allthough i doubt it would convince you. At least i feel content that i made the attempt to show you what is what on this matter.
What position am I "Dug in and wedded to", other than Muslims are human beings like us?
One of those "The Muslims are taking over!" videos. If that's your sole view of Muslims, then I don't know how I can convince you that they're not some demon army bent on killing or enslaving us all. They are not mindless slaves to every detail of their holy scribbles, any more than moderate Christians, who have similar commandments.
I've lived and worked with them. They're not monsters.
@Anon11674 like I said... no amount of reason or rationality will sway you. I know this. I feel at peace at leading the horse to water even though it refuses to drink.
Umm, "you can't get an ought from an is" is normally something atheists say, in response to fundies saying "Evolution says the weak need to perish, doesn't that lead to social darwinism?", when the scientists respond: "No, evolution just describes what is, it doesn't give moral instructions."
Moderate muslims are the ones that you don't know are muslim. They don't live a very overt muslim lifestyle. It's like how not all gay guys are flaming. I've met muslims where you had no idea that they were muslim until they told you. In fact, by that definition, I've met far more moderate muslims than moderate gay people (at least the ones that I knew were gay).
IF that were only smokers' problem, nobody would give a fuck... well, except taxpayers or insurance companies, depends on county's health care system.
3:41, image from Death Bed: The Bed that Eats. Am I breaking rule number 5 by pointing this out? I remember those claims about Pokemon, they were also claimed to be satanic. I remember when the cards first came out my Dad confiscated mine because some of the pokemon were psychic, and psychic powers were of the Devil (yes my Dad is and was completely batshit fundie crazy).
@TitenSxull wow. now i had in school a friend who culd not even watch tv or read commics in her own home bechose her parents where insane fundies. only tuch with popular culture she had was tex weller comics that she read secret. good thing that in our country its iligal to home school childern.
That part of Pokemon always bugged me. It was blatantly wrong, and a lot of the damn creationists actually though it was how the real thing worked. At least I've got some cheap laughs out of it.

"The rebels were terrorists..."
I don't think so. (1)They were at war. (2)They weren't killing civilians, only enemy soldiers. (3)They weren't using fear as a tactic

Since you're not shure I'll chip in. The burker thing is not mandatory in "Islam" but it is the law in many muslem countrys.
It's part of the whole "men arn't responsible for our urges" and "You made him rape you, you filthy whore" thing.
Also, turbins. That's Siiks, not muslems.
