Hi Koren, I just wanted to let you know that you can get Cyclomethicone (this is the silicone which will dry up) at coastalscents. I bought a bottle of it and shared it with my makeup-crazy friends, because a little lasts a loooong way. You'd maybe want to get this, because this way you will only get a solvent which will dry out completely later, so the consistency and the ingredients of the gel eyeliner won't be altered at all. I use it on everything waterproof that has dried out.
This is fantastic. I tried with with my elf cream liner that dried up and it worked really well. Now to see how long it lasts before I have to do it again.
thank you so much! Being a make-up artist myself, I am sensitive about the chemical elements and need too answer these questions for clients myself. You seem lovely! Many Blessings!
Thanks for the extremely useful information. I don't have access to glycerin & I am wondering if I can use the MAC FACE & BODY MIXING MEDIUM?
I bought this after watching your tutorial on pressing eyeshadows/pigments (it worked really well too) and the ingredients are not listed on the bottle of the Mixing Medium.
Could I use the MAC Face & Body Mixing Medium as a substitute for your glycerin liquid & mix to equal quantities with a clear face primer?
Why are you adding more silicones into the liner? I suppose that the silicones which the liner already contains, won't evaporate anywhere, even though the moisture does. Most gel liners also do not contain glycerine, so is it surely fine to add it in the product? Some people may like the new consistency, which this tip creates, but it can also affect in the product'ts water resistancy and other qualities
I tried this method and it really worked...and the texture is even better than b4...the staying power and anti-smudging ability is just like before and i'm pretty sure this method is better than adding eyedrops to it or putting it into warm water..just be mindful of the products you put into the eyeliner because they may irritate your waterline
All this explanation make more sense to me than just adding water, firstly because water is not even in the ingredient list of any gel liner. What if I use a silicone pressing medium? I have Avon Magix Face perfector primer, but it's not exactly clear, it's powdery. But I realized my pressing medium's main ingredients are cyclomethicone and dymethicone... Do you think this would work better than my avon primer?
i have two questions, would i be able to do this to revive urban decay primer potion i depotted bc now its all dry and hard to spread. and can i use this method to turn cream foundation to liquid?
no, because the air will actually dry it out more... You need to put in a liquid (not water) to add moisture back in it. any face mist or primer would do.
Koren, will the mixing medium and silicone from the primer irritate your eyes? Because I don't think those two products are meant for use on the sensitive skin around the eyes. I just wanted to be sure before I did this to my Bobbi Brown. Please let me know! xox
if I have a Silicone based Mixing Medium for Airbrush makeup, can I use it as a replacement for the Mixing Medium you used here and the silicone Primer?
@EnKoreMakeup would this also work for my studio finish concealer? does it affect the staying power? and is fix+ ok to use or should i use a glycerin gel medium?
this MIGHT be a stupid question (actually it may just be) but...by doing this process would it make the eyeliner easier to crease and smudge around our eyelid and stuff?
Koran, your vids are so helpful to so many ppl. Why on earth would anyone spend so much $ on a new gel liner when all they have to do is revive it?! Laziness, I suppose. Thank you so much. xxoo
I mixed my dried liner with Giovanni's Straight Fast! (a hair product that has mostly, if not all, natural ingredients; I use it in my hair instead of other silicone hair styling products.) I mixed a glob of liner with a dot of Straight Fast! on the back of my hand. It didn't seem to compromise the staying power of the liner at all. Also, what do you think of mixing the dried liner with a waterproof makeup remover (Lumene; Essence of Beauty, etc.)? Would love your professional opinion! Thanks!
Hey Koren! I seriously love ya. You are such a great guy. Anyway, just wanted to point out something. You know by heating plastics it transfers BPA etc. then putting it on our lids makes it worse because of absorption. So my thoughts are before heating buy the little glass containers and do it in there where we are sure there will be no BPA transfer. Just a serious thought.
@lexxipaul That's a great thought. I did think about that when I was considering what to do since my eyeliner came in a plastic jar. Since it was only in the microwave for 20 seconds though, I decided that I would chance it.

KOREN!! its not working for me!! i mixed 1 part glycerin mixture (1 part glycerol, 3 part purified water), then 1 part smash box face primer. the primer and gycerine solution isnt mixing together :(, i tried heating it up a little that didnt work either. am i doing something wrong? can somebody help me?
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! i recently bought Coastal Scents gel liner.... ugh the 1st set were dry so i complained and they sent me another pair and they were still dry :( I will definately try this. thank you soooo much!!!
Kore, you can also melt it in a bain-marie: you' ll hold it over boiled water. You' ll move it on water like a boat, with the bottom of the jar being sunk.
koren, you need to lay your hands on inglot's duraline. it comes in a small bottle with a dropper. EXCELLENT is the word. you don't need to go through any of this trouble to bring your gel liners back to life!
Isn't it quite unhygienic to use a hairdryer though? Because bacteria and germs might be blown into the pot, and since it's an eyeliner, it's not exactly the best thing to have something that might be potentially contaminated on the eye =/ but again, very good video tutorial but my only concern with it is that people should only use the microwave method and NOT with a hair dryer - no matter how much easily accessible it is. Just my two pence.
Can you please do a video on how to make your own gel liner? I've been searching for a specific color gel liner but can't find it and i don't really want to order online so i ws wondering if you knew how to custom make your own.
@octoberL0VE That's a great idea! Making your own gel liner is something I never thought about! Hope he answers you and makes a video if he knows a method! Thanks
thank u so much for this tutorial...i wish i would have seen this though before i threw my gel liners away. i dont wear make up everyday usually about once or twice a week and when it dries up i throw it away...
Thank you so much for the information. I have thrown a few good black gel liners. Good thing I didn't throw out my sapphire color gel liner. It's one of my favorites. Now I know how to revive it.
@yilnia u cant when its dry or clumpy that means its time to replace it after 3 months or so mascars starts to harbors bacteria and i dont think u want that near your eyes
QUESTION:
Why is the face primer necessary for this?
Thank you.

Using a hair dryer seems counter-productive? Microwave it in my opinion. Two completely different methods of energy transfer.

Thank you so much for the information. I have thrown a few good black gel liners. Good thing I didn't throw out my sapphire color gel liner. It's one of my favorites. Now I know how to revive it.

How can I fix my mascara when it start to dry out
yilnia 1 year ago 53
@yilnia don't use it. it means it is getting too old.
hannahbeeandme 1 year ago
@yilnia you can't revive it because it is water-based.
TheEmilyNielsen 1 year ago
@yilnia you should really throw it away and get a new one if it's dried imo
Japsummer 1 year ago
@Japsummer I think that the point is, that if it is in ones best interest they can rehydrate it.
sinaloren22 1 year ago
@yilnia put it in hot water, then let it cool... it works really good with my mascara!
