minus.com! Free unlimited storage (up to 2gb per file). Setup to also work as file sharing, and has built-in ability to stream media files! There are also apps (win, mac, ubuntu, iOS, Android, and soon WP7)!
When it comes to general data storage. use a local HDD or a local NAS device. For the most part it will suffice storage needs at a reasonable cost. With the limits of some peoples ISP (ie: Comcast), or if up/down speed is challenging, it can become difficult to use a cloud storage for daily data access. Cloud backups on the other hand make sense as the rule of thumb is to get backups/archives offsite to protect in the event of a disaster at your location. Visit us at our main site for more info
I use Dropbox to store important documents in the cloud. It's also for documents that I want access to everywhere. I like the desktop interface and how it really blends in with your desktop file system.
I have a VPS I pay just a few dollars a month for, and use Sparkleshare and some of my own scripts to work with it (which basically works on top of git). I did use Dropbox for a long time but decided I wanted more control over where my files were being stored. So my decision was not for immediate convenience, but for a sort of fun project that eventually became practical. Some of my shared folders (on my local system) are also also synced to my website this way for quick url sharing.
So when did Chris start selling out? This video is such a blow to the community which he has built up based on loyalty and quality information. Unsubscribing... now.
U never answer the questions properly.. Half way when you say what your favorite storage is, he jumps and goes on and on about this gnomies crap... Basically he never answered the question about storage services
I use SkyDrive because I primarily use my @live.com mail account, it has office web apps, 20gb of storage and if I ever run out of space I can make a new account for free.
You mentioned that you had extra Google storage. You might be interested in checking InsyncHQ out. They're a startup which provides a desktop client that works much like Dropbox does.
I use 2 1TB external hard drives. I also use DropBox to easily share files between my computers. If I am working on a photoshop document on my iMac and wanted to work on it from my MacBook Pro, I will simply drag it into DropBox, then work on it.
Obviously everything ends back up on my external hard drives, I don't use it as a file storage, more of a transfer.
Instead of paying for an online storage service I got a Western Digital My Book Like 3TB. Its basically my own personal cloud that I have complete control over. It still needs to be backed up or mirrored to a back up drive and its not fire proof but it does what I'm looking for. I'll post a video response that gives an overview of the product for anyone who may be interested.
Dropbox for me. Its just so simple to save all my school work there. I can access from my laptop, desktop, tablet, phone, and even computers on campus. Its the first one I've tried, and I haven't found a reason to continue looking!
Backblaze for me, $50 a year for unlimited storage. I currently have 655GB stored on their servers. Customer support is top notch and recovery of data is very smooth and fast, I know as I have needed to recover many GBs of data a few times already.
I use dropbox when you sign up you get two gigs free but that's not my reason of using dropbox overall I think they have a better interface then all the rest of the storage online services
I use Skydrive because its 25GB free with good Office integration, also it syncs with my Windows Phone. I wanna see something sync with My Documents on my Windows machine without me actively uploading things.
If I would use something I think it would probably be SparkleShare or SugarSync. SparkleShare because you install it yourself on the server of you choice (if I have understood it right), and it's Open Source! SugarSync because of it's seam to have all types of clients to use, end easy to use.
I was thinking he was going to explain which service he likes most and explain the benefits and drawbacks of each service he mentioned, kind of like a guide for people trying to find the best Cloud storage service for them, but it didn't go that way. Still a decent video.
i currently use Microsoft SkyDrive, because i just like the way it works pretty much and the fact that it is 25 gb of online storage for free and also because i think it's pretty cool it can be accessed on iOS and Windows Phone through an app but for Android you have to use the browser which isn't as good AT ALL. Thats pretty much it.
i use SkyDrive because it sync's up with Microsoft OneNoe plus i can upland my most important photos. plus who will give up 25 GB of free online storage
@PrKid718 It's useful to be able to access your files safely from anywhere in the world. Of course you could set up your own server but this is very reliable.
I really don't use cloud storage that much. I only use Google Docs at the moment for just school stuff. I've used SkyDrive before but i don't like it because it takes forever to upload content and i don't like the software provided for it. My next storage will probably be DropBox.
dropbox and mozy. having a backup drive doesn't do anything if you lose the drive, its stolen, your house is robbed, catches fire, theres a natural disaster, etc.
Youtube videos would benefit incredibly for a poll/vote-like system like facebook has, it would shine for videos like this, so people could vote up the one they use, or add their new one and mark idiot things as spam to be removed.
@gmcubed But then you end up spending a lot more money. And you also have to consider the future of computers. How are we ever going to get rid of physical drives and save everything in the cloud if we have no guarantee that that your stuff is going to be safe.
I dont really use much cloud services honestly. I have iCloud, but since I'm on my Mac, and its built in now, i use it. I know there are free services, I just haven't used any yet. I want to buy a big back up drive and get my own back up, then I plan to get into cloud services.
I use Ubuntu One, iCloud and Dropbox and of the 3 Dropbox is my favourite! As it works on Windows, mac & linux - theres also apps for my Android (and I believe its available for iOS also) so it wins hands down for me!
Sugar Sync is my fix for online storage... it automatically backs up what I want it to back up... and syncs it across all my computers.
I'm a High School student and if it weren't for sugar sync I'd have to carry flash memory with me every day... Sugar Syncs my Eclipse project files aswel as metadata (and all my 'Office' documents) so going from working on my personal laptop to my competition laptop is completely seamless.
I have little use for of these free services to date as there are too many limitations, for anything I ever want to save the file size is too large, it would be okay for backing up photographs offsite. Of course I understand why there are limits on a free account, offsite storage is not likely anything I am ever going to pay for without good reason.
I use SugarSync, I love them!
