on fifa he would have 100 finishing and 100 positioning. He was just so great at getting goals so long as he hand scholes, giggs and beckham delivering
"Game after game, goal after record breaking goal for Ruud van Nistelrooy."
So true. Unreal striker. 150 goals in 5 seasons. That's average 30 per season for fuck sake. Having him or Henry in your team back in those days was like cheating. He did win throphies with United, but he deserved much more. Such a shame he missed the golden era. After he left, United won... well, pretty much everything. There were better strikers than him in the past, but he surely is my favourite.
@oldtraffordnike Ironic how most United players leave for Real and Arsenal ones pack their bags for Barcelona. I am wondering when the reverse situation is going to happen...
All players have a amazing time at man united, then when they go to RMA they get sold to a german/french team 3 years later due to injury or loss of form
@Raketoken you see fergie had to do it with becks and ruud because they were getting down to their latter stages of career, big loss of form. i just remember right before van nistelrooy left he went 10 games without scoring a game and lost his place to a young fierce striker who is Wayne Rooney. for beckham he had to go, as hard as it is for me to say it, he had to and as much as i love him fergie made the right choice by selling him and bringing in a fellow named cristiano ronaldo.
@Raketoken we haven't been the luckiest in the injury department and players like Veron, Forlan, didn't exactly make it in United. but I get your point, surprising how many times we've actually sold our key players, I mean if United was a small club I'd get it, but it's one of the biggest clubs in the world, the best are pretty much these: United, Real, Barcelona, Liverpool, Milan, Bayern, and I guess Ajax as well.
He and Inzaghi should have in FIFA for the inside scoring ability like 199. They're not lucky, because you get lucky once, twice and not more usually. These players smelt blood everytime the ball was inside the area.
Always loved watching him, a great fox in the box. 150 goals in 5 seasons, that's an average of 30 a year. Went to Real Madrid and instantly destroyed Barcelona's dominance, Legend. From an Arsenal Fan
I would have to disagree with you there. We had an aging club and lost due to their egos people like Stam, Beckham, Yorke, Cole and players got old like Irwin and Keano. Then we didn't have a consistent goalie and went through Van de Grouh, Barthiez, Carroll, Howard. The list went on and on top of that we had young talent like Rooney and Ronaldo that wouldn't be great for another 3 years. It wasn't until the 2006-2007 season everything feel into place. We had Evra,Vidic, and Van Der Sar.
@redmustang03 in 99 man u won the champions league by 2000 they were the champions and you right, but come on dude manchester united in early 2000s was good solkjaer the norweyian was awesome too, and scholes still had some gas in his tank.
@elcesar999, yeah they were good but after Schmeichel our goalies were crap especially Barthiez doing his stupid stunts that backfired. Yes we did well in 99,00,02 but that was because Arsenal just blew it and United didn't choke in the league. Other than 2001 SF in the Champions League we didn't get past QF until 2006-2007 season. Solkjaer was good and then he got hurt for 2 1/2 years. Ruud was basically it for United. Honestly looking back he was just a stop gap for Rooney and Ronaldo.
@Tommeeexo, those two weren't great until I say the 2006-2007 when Ruud left. By that time United had the defenders in Vidic and Evra. They still are very good defenders. Then Ruud got hurt and got hurt even more the last 5 years. Now United has the new generation of players that are going to put Carrick, Fletcher, Park, Valencia on the bench.
@J040PL7 He had to go to make room for Rooney and Ronaldo, he started to decline as a player and it was the right desicion to offload him to Real Madrid for the price they were willing to play for an ageing striker.
He still will always be a Man United legend though.
@TaffTalk Thats garbage. As much as I love SAF he made an error in judement to let him go. Neither Rooney or Ronaldo played the same role as Ruud. Those 3 co existed fine. SAF just gave up on him because he was injured and, SAF was drinking the kool-aid of saha. They had a falling out and as per usual SAF then offloaded him. He was not declining yet. He went to Real and continued his goal scoring brilliance for them for 2-3 yrs there as well.
@Vanisdagreatest You can't just keep hold of an ageing squad and then wonder why your youngsters are not developing properly. Ruud's role was fulfilled and we now had to look to grow Ronaldo and Rooney. Plus, Fergie has made it abundantly clear that no player is bigger than Man United, and when he started to act up and demean Sir Alex, he was half way out of the door. SAF doesn't tolerate egos (same case with Stam). Plus he wanted to go, and the £12Mil was a nice offer for 30 year old striker.
@TaffTalk, Rooney got lucky because he would been out of the door too last year. I think with Rooney it was more frustration with the scandal, the poor World Cup performance, the ankle injuries, etc. After talking with SAF and got everything cleared away then Rooney stepped up his game. I mean Chicharito was put in there to give Berbatov and Rooney a scare into their jobs and it worked.
@Vanisdagreatest, then he got hurt again. Just look at the the 5 years he was there (2001-2006) he basically was the offense. Only 1 FA Cup, 1 League Cup (didn't play), and 1 Premier League title. Now look after he left and go with (2006-2001), 4 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League title, 2 League Cups. By that point we had a goalie, had defenders, and had Rooney and Ronaldo stepped up.
@redmustang03 You just said it for me. He WAS the attack. Ronaldo wasnt the best player in the world yet and rooney was still a youngins and has only come on the past 2 yrs anyway. The teams that followed RVN had the best player in the world a far superior defense and keeper. There is just no denying what this man could do on the pitch in terms of scoring simply none. Just wasnt young enough to get in with ronaldo and that defense.
@fikri901107 Because he became a self-obsessed prick, saying Rooney and Ronaldo werent good enough, and then got pissed off at being benched.. So actually, well done Fergy! The question is, why did he WANT to leave? It sucks, because he was one of the best....!
