  • I will love these classic Bread songs every day of my life!! BobbyK

  • JUST MADE IT... In 1970 "It Don't Matter To Me" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 11 weeks in the Top 100...

This song was originally recorded in 1969 for the album titled "Bread"; it was re-recorded a year later and this is the version that charted...

  • Makeout song for 7th grade parties...Fall, 1971...good times

  • This song gives me chills

  • There is a great artist out there recording, much of his creations is like this.. google john batdorf he's got several cd's out and has playd w/ , for .. and created for some of the best groups in music.. as well s having done music /singing for touched by an angel, and promise land.. tv shows.

  • Always liked this song. I remember it from high school. There is a song from a few years ago that is so similar, that it has to have been influenced by this. It's called "Fake Plastic Trees" by Radiohead.

Great song. Thanks for posting it.

  • I played this record a million times when my girl and I broke up in the 70's

  • @matt51402 Yes i did too...makes you get over it and think!

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written..

  • Time is still on my side -- even though I really miss the time of great music like this.

  • And a song where he says "It Don't Matter To Me" when you know it really does. He's just trying to convince himself throughout the song that it doesn't matter that she doesn't feel the same way. That's why he keeps repeating the line "It Don't Matter To Me"...but he still wants her to find personal happiness at the same time even if it's not with him. But he will always leave an empty room and an open heart in case she ever decides to return and if her searching brings her back together with him

  • @phillcro71 YES (crying)

  • ADORO ESSA MÚSICA, E ELES TB!

  • I'm love drnk:)

  • I've always liked the tune on this one-- : ) I like to harmonize with it--and the message is clear-

    : )

  • CROCE AND BREAD WERE ON SAME LEVEL.....TOP

  • I love this music! I listened to it every night for years and still when I hear it I love it. I can travel my past with the music on this site. No thee isn't music like his anymore. Music nowdays doesn't have anything to do with love and it doesn't make beautiful pictures while you listen.

  • They do not make music like this anymore !

  • AWESOME YES THEY WERE...........

  • there is also some you left out like jim croce ,,, harry chappin ,,, bob segar ,,,,, dave clark 5 ,,,,,,gerry rafferty ...... queen are some others one i like as well as ones you listed : )

  • i call this music, the days of wine & roses., .:P

  • perfectly said,124slowhand ,we need to go back in time,to truly love again

  • @288pops Lets make a time machine...lol

  • real music......that means something !

  • soulful artist

  • wow just listening to this song is making me cry

  • You'll never hear great music like this being made today...

  • snow patrol are kinda cool musicians like these guys ( all about the music ) but bread wins outright , love it

  • If enough young people grow up listening to music like this (like I did) there will be musicians (like me) that have this same sort of style and soul to make love to the music I create. Give me a year and Ill have published music out

  • young people dont know about real music? Yeah im 21 and you just named my playlist 124slowhand

  • I agree with Slowhand - They don't do music like they used to. It better reflected the lives we were living, with hopes and dreams for the future. The future looked so bright, and the possibilities were endless. These bands and Their music genuinely reflected our feelings, and our love...GREAT TIMES, but GONE FOREVER!

  • something very special about those musicians...that time...

  • use to listen to this way back when, parents going thru a divorce

    somehow got this far.

  • Memphis, Tn.band get it right !

  • And yet it does matter to me.

  • How many times have you listened to this kind of music and it takes you back instantly to a better time and place. What happened ??????????????

  • .. Time to go out searching for yourself! Thank You So Much :(((((( I LOVE U SO MUCH ~ ALL OF U. REALLY.

  • Love this song. And I want music to be like this again too! (Reminds me of college.)

    Mg

  • Oh my! this sure takes me back to the 70's - - Iforgot how much I love Bread!

  • I was asked by a friend to be nice to this girl who had long dark hair and beautiful emerald green eyes. I danced with her at a party while a Bread album was playing. It was Jan. 1975. That moment in time will stay with me for the rest of my life.

  • @cannine57 I know your memory,..just a different girl..a different song..a different place!

    Ahh!

  • @124slowhand good comment, but you forgot Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, Niel Young, Pearl Jam!

  • Comment removed

  • GTFO =) WTFU...that's all I'm saying.....e

  • Great guitar work from 1:40 to 2:15. The buildup is exquisite.

  • @shadowheart52 They are very underrated for their musicianship. They would have been given more respect if they'd have destroyed their instruments on stage or trashed a few hotel rooms.

  • @abergethirty Tough to destroy instruments when the songs sound this good. When you are playing crap all of the time, you have to revolt once in a while and destroy something.

  • @shadowheart52 YES !

  • I agree with your comment. I love a lot of the music today, however those entertainers you named were so awesome.

  • I want music to be like this again!! Come back real musicians!! Record companies suck!! Young people dont know about real music!! Bread, Beatles, Stones, 5th Dimension, Cat Stevens, Derek, Jimi, James T, Carole King, Aretha, America, Alan Parsons, Chicago, Stylistics, Sly, Bad Company, ZZ, Rod Stewart,

  • @124slowhand good point! ;)

  • @124slowhand i know of all those you just named :D but that's cause my mom and dad raised me on the great music!

  • @124slowhand dont worry mate im 16 and love this music

  • @124slowhand Are you aware that 1/2, if not more, of the musicians you named are still making music today?!

  • @124slowhand Amen.

  • i like song is beatiful

  • @javirockmotion I was around 14 years old a neighbor boy handed me this and other 45's told me to listen to the words ing the songs. He said that the words convey his feelings for me. We went steady for years - he was my best friend.

  • great great great song!

  • Just one dislike? It dont matter to me...

  • brings back so many memories

  • He was also the voice of "the Goodbye Girl" a film with Richard Dreyfus and Marsha Mason. Great film and Fabulous closing song.

  • I have always loved Bread and the truth in their songs. They were written to speak to the heart and always did. I remember dancing to many of them at high school dances (slow dancing). That was many years ago, but I loved it.

  • @anubethc45 i have this same version.. the album's name is Anthology of Bread

  • MEIN GOT..!!

  • "Time is on my side." Wonderful. Thank you David Gates and Bread.

  • the voice....sublime.

  • Unselfish lyrics.

  • @anubethc45 The album cover i saw was "Bread". Hope this helps.

  • This is another great tune from Bread. I can remember in the 70's playing this over and over. In fact, The Best of Bread had many great tunes on the LP. Thanks for posting!!!!!

  • best love song ever..

  • There's so much love in these tunes....

  • Love this one so much,,always loved their songs~

  • this is the era when the music meant something, we could sing and dance to it, unlike the crap of today.....

  • there is no-one better than you...

  • Ahhh, 70s AM radio. Big airplane wuinged lapels and bell bottoms,

  • this was when living was ez.man i miss those days sooooo much!

  • Jeff...............

  • I was 10 when this band came on the scene! I've loved them throughout my lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the upload!!!

  • lol...A friend of mine recognized David on a flight from London...he said he was so excited he could hardly stand it. He ran off the plane to get ahead and then waited...he said when David walked past he jumped out 'like a bitch' and said "OMG do you realize you're David Gates". Pure hilarity! He said 'I never felt so much like a little girl in my life. Whats funny is this guy is all man and built like a super hero! lol

    David is the BOMB!

  • @daToinado That's so great!

  • was lucky enuff to catch them live once... superb music experience that was.

  • Another song heard on the Virginia radio station! It struck me just what a great playlist the station has to have included this great but overlooked Bread gem! Great upload!

  • Saying what you really feel is what it is really about !!! Understanding what you feel is another thing !!!

  • great tune, great group! never heard another like this.

  • Bread will always be one of my favorite bands ever! Rest in peace, James, Mike and Larry! There will never be a band like and as great as you guys were at making music like this! Love, BobbyK

  • It's about time youtube let someone upload this incredible song. I bought this 45 the year it hit with babysitting money. It's meant so many different things in my life over the years. I was 11 or 12 when it hit. I am 52 now. Thank you.

  • This is such a nice song! Very easy on the ears, love that about it:)

  • to David from Diane

  • For those these days who complain about Justin Bieber, Be advised, every generation has an act in the music industry who some people think was sappy. I'm pretty sure that in 1970, people back then didn't like BREAD. Just something to think about.

  • @kja427 Hi,that,s ok but than we had more taste i think, the sixties and seventies has more quality,or not?

but everyone have his taste, but you cannot say,the music now is better!

    LOL

  • Yes Bread what a great group, I grew up loving them and still do :)

  • Leaving the door open indefinitely for this woman. Poor guy, no self respect.

  • @nk4k En contraire, the lyrics if you look at them properly show that what he is saying to her is in the greatest sense of self respect when it comes to relating to another human being...

what he's really saying is that he'll always be there for her, whether it be as a lover or simply a friend. Any healthy person would do the same. This is the best kind of love: Unselfish love :o)

  • @Ignauhak Exactly right! Exactly what makes this song so special and meaningful to me!

  • @jonesds11

I graciously thank & appreciate your concurrence :o)

  • @Ignauhak very well said. it was true 40 years ago and will be true 400 years from now. it just might take some a lifetime to learn

  • @mountainlion1960

Thank you very kindly as well :o)

  • @nk4k This is what is called unconditional love.

  • I grew up listening to their music. It is timeless and so smooth.

  • What a long strange trip it has been 29 today anfeel 45

  • Does anyone know if Bread did their own string arrangements too? It is so beautiful when the violins come in.

  • When this song first came out, I couldn't stand it. But then I listened to the words and fell in love with it. Bread rocks! softly.

  • This is one of the prettiest songs ever written in modern music! It is such a shame that many of the young kids today don't know about these musical masterpieces of yesteryear! The voice of a David Gates or James Griffin is a rare thing, indeed! Love, BobbyK

  • Burned the 45 up completely, back in the day... Brent

  • God I wish my husband could say those words to me... But since I know he can't, I'll be sure to keep Bread's music nearby when I leave.

  • I had no problem, back in the day, listening to some Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd or The Who and then putting some Bread on the turntable.Good music is good music.

  • The 60s and 70s spawned fantastic singer songwriters, so many in fact that you would find it difficult to list them all, ..... these days you would just find it difficult to compile a list.

    Loes

  • Ja .... we zijn allemaal gewoon mensen. Moeilijk te geloven dat het soms wel

  • Anyway, I hope some of the classic and oldie stations promote this wonderful music, and show the world what great music once was! May the good Lord bless you all! Peace and Love to all! BobbyK

  • Or maybe the world has just gone crazy and is depraved! I mean Bread sang beautiful masterpieces about Love, relationships, etc, and they don't get the accolades of greatness they deserved! Listen to Enimen's filthy, "Not Afraid, with F..k in every other verse, or Pink's F....in Beautiful, and you just shake your head, and think most of the world is headed to hell! God please bring back music like Bread! At least, I can listen to Christian music like Third Day that still makes great music ! ..

  • What a sham, that one of the most beautiful songs ever written, has only 30,000+ views, when Enimen,Justin bieber, Rebecca Black, have half a billion, and a little less for the two others, and even Avril Lavinge have so many hits! Bread wrote their songs, sang their songs with two great vocalists, and played their great songs with their phenomenal playing skills! Maybe, it's all the media exposure, you-tube, and computers-cont'd

  • @bobby7771117 hI,THAT,S BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY CHILDREN ON YOU TUBE ,THIS IS FOR YOU AND ME A,N OTHER TASTE,WE LOVE GOOD MUSIC FOR THE YOUNGER BIEBER,ECT. FANS IT IS BECAUSE THE NOISE OF THE MODERN F*CK SHIT!BUT I AM TO OLD FOR THAT CRAB!!

    LOL

  • @bobby7771117 you cannot compare none of these singers mentioned with Bread

  • @55102 first of all it's compare any, not compare none. There are many great artists from the era. Bread happens to be one of those great Bands. I love them but also love America, Elton, etc... I found her diary

    underneath a tree....

  • Gates actually had a hit record he wrote when really very young called Popcicles Icecicles, recorded by the Murmaids, there only hit, this would have been about 1965 I think, Cheers!

  • @gmkell59 you are correct.

  • @boswell69 Oh I remember that song. Good one, that's so neat you knew that!

  • @gmkell59 it was more like 1960 gates made records since 1959 same thing with joe south

  • Im gonna go smoke a joint now cuz It dont matter to me.

  • Can't believe that it's taken me nearly three and a half decades to hear Bread songs other than 'Everything I Own'... thanks to my wife for buying a Best of Bread LP for £3 from a charity shop and letting me play it everyday since!

  • It was a much prosperous time in North America. The era had Vietnam, oil embargos , unpopular presidents & the cold war but not the chasm of today. People did more with less and seemed much happier.

  • @dpristupa Poignant comment.

  • @dpristupa I agree, despite all the crappy events, we all dream of returning to the sensibility of that time. It certainly wasn't innocent , but it sure was simplier and happier. Most people today are over-bloated, over-pampered, unappreciative, ingratious and ungracious. They couldn't survive, let alone be happy, doing more with less. Emotionally or physically.

  • Just tasteful, poignant and beautiful. Need I say more???

  • On my list of Top 100 records of the 1970's.

  • @shyman99 Not bad, it is in my alltime Top 10, They were also very good LIVE!

  • To Cary Armknecht

  • Finally someone's posted the David Gates version again, thanks boswell69!

  • Just so beautiful.

  • I can run for days with this song on my IPOD.Coz it dont matter to me.

  • So sad to know that cancer took so many...and heart attack.

  • Is there an alternate mix of this song?Think i heard it on the radio the other day

  • instead of bread it should have been butter

  • Just sweet, so very sweet. David Gates' voice and the song. Love it!

  • essa música é demais...percebe-se bem os acordes feitos na Telecaster...

    lokoo!!!

  • I heard this song on the radio today for the first time. This is dope.

  • All of my first recordings of Bread were on 8-Track in high school. Boy do i feel old. LOL

  • Comment removed

  • My favorite Bread tune, for sure!! It is the bands best tune, as far as I am concerned!

  • @dkatz1964 I completely agree with you.

  • you know back in the 70s this was one of my fav bands and this was the some I left home and a love at the end of Viet nam lots of there stuff was great! I've got an auditon coming up at Harrah's Tahoe and I'm looking for a good solo guitar "bread" tune to play at there talent show, Guitar man likely, any suggestions?

  • Classic beautiful songs........8th grade.............making out with your boyfriend!!! The radio!!!

  • reminds me of making out at 7th grade parties w/ the lights out...lol...good times.
