Actually, there are 3 different weight classes that have some differences. There's the Light class with Toad, Peach, and Yoshi, All-Around with Mario and Luigi, and Heavy with Bowser, DK, and Wario.

I actually beaten all cups on 50cc and 100cc with yoshi, without using any power ups, but I recorded just to prove that I did. But I swear I'd done it without using a single powerup.
