Before I go into my Batman comments, let me say that you guys are hularious(sp?)! Not only that, but I actually cared about what your opinions were on both the comics and TDK review. I too and a fan of the Arkham stories, and I was somewhat surprised you didn't mention Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On Serious Earth. That story shows the insanity that can consume anyone, it shows us the back story of Dr. Arkham, and...It has Joker making some suggestive comments about Batman and Robin.
I also really enjoy The Killing Joke, which shows us a more...human side? Hmm. Okay, it shows us a back story at the very least. One of my favorite comments that Joker makes is about how he can't even remember his origin, how it's sometimes this way and sometimes that way. Also I liked the metaphorical ties with the title, and how both Batman and Joker get to laugh together at the end. And I agree with it, sometimes it does only take one bad day to change us.One bad day can send us over the edge
I thought The Long Halloween was good, the style was pleasing in a macabre sense. Okay, I REALLY loved the portion with the Mad Hatter and the Scarecrow. They have a type of lunacy that works well for their partnership. I never even thought of using that Through The Looking Glass quote for them, before I read this tale. (I wish they had this duo more in Batman:The Animated Serious, it's just so fun to see them play off of each other!)Joker's antics were fun as well! Wanted more of Penguin though
Now my opinion on TDN...WOW! It was so much better than Batman Begins. I remember being nervous about how they were going to make Joker in the film, and I worried for nothing! Heath Ledger hit it out of the park. I had goosebumps when I saw that scar the first time.(Though that might be because I actually imagined how awful that must have felt, rather than him creeping me out.) I liked how they changed the look, going from the traditional chemical bath to...this!
This movie really shows how Batman is one of those comics were the characters keep on changing and evolving. I thought, in a morbid sense, that Two-Faces origin was awesome! I liked the idea that Joker was the one who set him off, almost...gave bith to him. Not only by the accident, but by making "Gotham's white Knight" into a creature like himself. Proving again that it only takes one bad day for the tables to turn....Um yeah, sorry about the rant. Going to watch more of your stuff! W00T!
i dont understand why they overdid face's "other side" in the movie. especially compared to every other character they use being, especially the joker, being incredibly real, gritty, and believable. face's face was just kind of a what the fuck moment. i mean i didnt hate it, but I dunno. i did hate that his burned suit was the same color as his skin. i dont want to say when, just in case someone who hasnt seen it yet is reading this.
the problem with nolan's batman movies in my opinion is that his batman on screen isnt mysterious or moody enough espiecially batmans scenes in the dark knight, so when he puts batman in a city thats shot in a real life city it's awkard and batman then becomes ridiculous. Also i'm not convinced of christian bale as batman, specially when he talks, just like i'm not convinced of hayden christiansen as an adult anakin skywalker. Basicily Joker makes the movie dark knight.
@ancestron May seem late for a reply, but I don't agree with this. Without doubt the best stories are 'Year: One,' 'The Dark Knight Returns,' 'The Long Halloween,' 'Killing Joke' 'Serious House on Serious Earth' - where Batman plays a major part.
just saw DK tonight. i would have to say that the character most changed durig the movie was harvey dent. by this measure he is in fact the main character. However, conflict makes the character and I think the film had at least four main players.
DK seemed like a break away from Begins, in Begins the city gave you that Gotham feel. In DK it felt just like any other city, felt real though. The Joker is amazing, plain and simple. Two face wasn't what I expected, seemed campish to me. The joker was deadly serious, then you see two face (as good as the performance was) it didn't fit the movie. But it was amazing, the first one ended off with such a cool scene though, DK kindof seems like a lead up to a second part but it was a little dry.
Thought it was amazing. I loved Iron Man, but the climax in Dark Knight just had so much going for it, it made Iron Man look like just two guys beating each other up.
In a few months time, after several rewatches, whatever, I'd like to see you guys compare Heath Ledger's Joker to the others to see if you still think he's the best. It feels that way now, but I'm wondering how well his performance will age.
I assure that it his performance will stand the test of time his suicide doesn't influence my opinion at all. Jack's was the happy go lucky clown joker but heath's was the dark, maniacal, twisted, sick, joker with even a slight tinge of dark humor. Amazing.
I'm not letting his death affect how I judge him either, I just tend to get really jazzed about things initially and have to wait until my excitement dies down until I can really examine them. I loved Heath Ledger's Joker, I'm hoping I'll say the same thing when I'm re-watching this on DVD (and same for everyone else).
I saw TDK and i thought, wow the joker was really good, i wonder how it compares to Jack's? No joke, the next day it was on TBS or something and I got to see Jack play the joker.
when i watched Batman, i saw jack nicholson playing the joker.
when i watched TDK, i saw the joker.
Theres no initial hype. theres just the fact that heath ledger is a better actor than jack nicholson. not just for the joker, but in general.
I haven't. Before TDK, the last movie I saw him in was Brokeback Mountain, and I didn't think he was that great in it. Maybe I should check out Lords of Dogtown then.
There's a fine line between imitation and flattery, and Batman and the Joker completely obliterated it in this movie. A must see! Possibly best movie of the year and in my opinion, best movie of the decade.
Christian Bale and Heath Ledger are absolutely phenomenal. Blows Ironman and any other comic book icon out of the water.
oh, and by the way, i REALLY wanted the joker to fall off the building like in the old days when he would "die" and then just pop up the next issue! oh well.
I just Dark Knight earlier today and it was amazing! I loved it so much. Heath Ledger as Joker was so excellent and I would go as far as to say that his performance was better than Jack Nicholson's. The movie lives up to all the hype go watch it now.
I saw the moie if you havent seen it go and see it seriously see it. It is a great movie the joker is very creepy Heath Ledger did the best as the joker. This movie will have its point where it seems like you know whats is going to happen the bam ur surprised it is just great dnt know how they will do better than this which scares me alittle but riddler played by david tennat just sayin would be a good start just my opinion....Ohh and pencil trick just watch for pencil trick trust me great!
Why did you guys post the movie portion of this episode twice? Why include it in this video if you were just going to post it separately? (here I was all excited that you posted two videos only to find out that one was only the second half of the first one!)
My God, if you don't get Joker as Batman's main villain, what are you doing reading Batman comics? Seriously. There has never been a better match between a hero and a villain.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty obvious where they got the idea for the Joker as Batman's enemy. It's the iconic symbol for classical theatre (tragedy/comedy masks)!
Thats why I want Talia(preferably Jennifer Connelly) in the next film. They couldve built up the dynamic in Batman Begins instead of creating Rachel Dawes.
This movie was too good! If the studio does decide to make another batman movie, I'm not going to go see it opening day. The whole movie depended on that specific Joker. This Joker is even better than Mark Hammils. Maybe if they have to make another one they can give Hamill a shot at the role.

I also loved the film and disagree that Eckhart didn't sell both "sides of the coin." He was fantastic. Tommy Lee anyone?
Everyone can top notch performances, Ledger goes without saying...oops just said it.
But clunky dialog? When was this?
