  • This has always been one of my favorites. Back in 74 I used to go to sleep with this playing on my stereo. Jimi is truly missed. No one can touch him.

  • The music is all engulfing. You feel it and the mind drifts into pleasurable thoughts... Nice!!! :-D

  • I wish I could just drift thru sound or were ever he headed to

  • pure genius

  • I have always loved this one, it's much better than "Angel"...

  • I don't think there was any keyboard on Drifting. A vibraphone was added posthumously. Even though I like the sound of the vibraphone, I bet, if he had lived, Jimi would finally have decided to use his guitar to simulate the vibraphone sounds - imho.

  • @shinyraygun

The Cry of Love album was posthumus mixed by Eddy Kramer and Mitch Mitchell and released in 1971.

Steven Still piano playing was added, like Buzzy Linhart who did the vibrafone, and other performed backing vocals

  • @TheDutchMill I knew Stills stomped his feet in "If 6 was 9".and played piano in "My Friend" (a fun song to play on acoustic guitar!). I really appreciate learning new details about Jimi's music. Where did you get this info about Stills on Drifting? Long live Jimi in our hearts and ears!

  • I love this song jimi hendrix really out did himself on this one ...jus listen to that guitar and keyboard track it was blend in together at the same time thru the same amp thats how it was récorded.......?

  • Achingly beautiful and sad.

  • I never understand why some people make these apples and oranges comparisons...its a BIG world and trying to compare Mozart with Duke Ellington or Hendrix with Lady Gaga is just a silly exercise...and no ..I am NOT putting her in the class with the other three..what I'm saying is that there is plenty of room for all.....I LOVE Jimi....I also love Karen Carpenter...call me crazy.

  • The Master!

  • If there ever was a song to make you cry, This it May you rest in peace . JIMI YOUR THE BEST Be free. R.L.H. ROBERT LEE

  • If there was ever a song to make cry, this is it JIMI may we meet in the version of live butterflys and zebras with moonbeams JIMI LIVES ON IN MY HEART . Robert Lee H

  • Some very nice footage you put together, thanks!

  • Great shots of Jimi, thanks!

  • Can someone tell me from what live, or festival was minutes 1:16 and 1:17, where Hendrix is with his Flying V?

  • @Aritus it's a footage taken in ''rudolph valentino'' mansion in Los Angeles on August 16, 1967....there's is no audio existing but he played foxy lady..

search on google ''the jimi hendrix experience 1967 DVD'' it's a great mix of rare footage and the one in valentino's mansion is included!!

  • @ggreg93 Thank you for the info; Rich information you supplied! Thanks once again.

I will look into this right now; and that shows that one just cannot lose interest in Hendrix stuff!

  • @Aritus :)...watch here there's is the entire footage you were looking for

    watch?v=1P1NkCWT0RY&list=PLA9C83C0D9DF5A440&context=C327e90eADOEgsToPDskL18SIOyvzvrRtK4QXwmKJ2

  • @ggreg93 ... Hey man.... Thanks! You really made my morning! I thank you very much for this and your follow up! I watched and this is what I was looking for. Hendrix never ceases to impress doesn't he?

  • @Aritus yes, he does! I'm happy that you like that, it's always a pleasure to help for Hendrix stuff...

  • This is my all time favorite song.I cry every time I hear it1

  • Could you imagine living in this world without hearing this song? I couldn't. Thank you Jimi. I am blown away by that incredible note that starts at 2:49. I always assumed it was Jimi's voice, but maybe its his guitar that is actually singing with the passion and frailty of a trembling human voice crying out for love on a sea of forgotten tear drops. If it is his guitar, it is possibly the most mysterious single note ever played on a guitar. What do you think?

  • @shinyraygun it's just amp feedback probably from the neck pickup..but beautifully mixed by Eddie Kramer into the mix. the guitar was a toy in his hands basically - although honed by many years of groundwork, people forget he came up the hard way. the real hard way.

  • Beautiful!

  • 3 person likes katty perry

  • Someone can get the song "in front the storm" ?

  • jimi hendrix siempre estara en nuestros corazones y aunque pasen los tiempos el nunca desaparecera ): i miss you jimi

  • That delta blues blues guitar in the background along side one in reverse. Who woulda thunk

  • When I used to get high on pot and listen to this song, the guitar playing at the very end had me picturing Jimi emerging from beneath something.... like the sea or something.... VERY DEEP!!

  • me too together with stomu yamastha

  • Mellow, heartfelt, soulful, healing...

Thanks for the sublime memories, tygbro, may the Blessings be...

  • i almost cried

  • No way

  • Forever in our hearts,we will never forget you/

  • IMO This is why Hendrix tops page as a guitarist, such a beautiful piece of music that has so much inocence in it. I love how other people can realate to songs like this that jimi wrote in the way i do. Rock on jim.....Rock on.

  • Why is this not one of his most popular songs?

  • @GregasBoss22 It is, we're keeping it quiet because 'they' don't deserve to hear it. We'll just let them go on thinking that Jimi Hendrix = Foxey Lady, Purple Haze and The Wind Cries Mary. Nothing against wind.

  • @GregasBoss22 People who don't have much intelligence don't have the capacity to comprehend such intricate music, there are plenty of other songs out there by jimi that are AMAZING. Perfect in my opinion, its hard to try to come up with what jimi did.

  • Such a beautiful and haunting song. Only wish there were more serene and quiet shots of him playing. The bombastic and wild scenes are not what the song is about. Still a great vid though. Thanks for posting.

  • @djrtc1 I agree

  • The pic of him with his mom got me choked up for some reason

  • Hendrix a real dichotomy! He can throw you out into the far reaches of space with soaring apocalyptic shrills of a million atomic bombs and in an instant draw you right back in into a state of grace by coaxing hypnotic floating notes of crimson passion on sea of forgotten teardrops and leave you.....drifting! ...Gota stop smokin this stuff!

  • @2patero Yes, dude, he played exactly how he felt, & felt exactly how he played... one moment: "Manic Depression Must Be a MESS!!" (Manic Depression) & the next "we'll hold hands and watch the Sun rise from the bottom of the Sea" (Are You Experienced?) ... from "Evil Man makes me kill you, Evil Man makes you kill me, even though we're one under the Soul" (Machine Gun), to "Golden was the colour of the Dream I had not too long ago" (One Rainy Wish)... a mass of delicious contradictions, was Jimi.

  • Thanks for sharing mate

  • Hendrix was a musical genius. period.

  • Jimi makes it sound so easy and effortless when he sings "Drifting"!

    Exceptional guitar player,song writer..

  • The only thing bad about this song is that it is not long enough.

Tha note at the end is beautiful.

  • Hi! what's the live at 2min03 please? when he s on the floor.

  • @tecktock L'Olympia France I believe

  • His music is completely from another world. A sense of "what's after" even before we die.

  • @kokybhakta

    you got it !

  • WOW !!!

What a perfect combination of Jimis music, with a blend of of His Magical performances on stage...

    Very well done...

    Thanks

  • Just think of what Jimi could have done, if 'they' left him alone.

  • arguing who is better is like arguing blue is better than orange.what cant be argued is jimi was an exceptional guitar player, song writer.one of the great musicians of our time...........................

  • @rambriggs

beyond exceptional, beyond words; always love him

  • zijn allermooiste echt wel

  • how can anybody not like this man,all i can say is they got very simple minds,.

  • Thanx to all who had anything to do with bringing this to you tube. I've spent many hours listening to this and other works by Jimi. 'If we don't see u no more in this world ... we'll meet u on the next one ... and don't be late !!! '

  • Absolute genius! Mozart et al would have loved this and covered it. Hendrix forever!

  • @wildblueangel76 >Jimi Hendrix is my favourite electric guitarist but really you must know very little of Mozart's music to bring his name up here. Such an absurd comparison.

  • @lewars1912

I am not making a comparison between them. Hendrix was a musician, Mozart was a musician and good music is good music no matter what instrument and era it was played in. Thanks for the feedback.

  • @Lizzie666666 > Where on earth did you pop up from? I was commenting on a comment made by wildblueangel76. People trying to justify how great they think a pop musician is will in the same breath sometimes bring up names like Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, etc, usually in my experience without having any real knowledge of their works, and yes, this IS a deliberate comparison and quite a ludicrous one. Pt. 1

  • @Lizzie666666 > In addition to Jimi Hendrix I also love the music of Bob Dylan, but wouldn't dream of comparing him to Shakespeare, however some people will also insist on doing this, lol, and are quite happy to do so without, I suspect, having even read one of his plays. Pt. 2

  • Film-making Supreme...a dreamscape....facts say he died at 27...this man was never 27; he was born a thousand year old man-woman, and never died...watching these motion pictures to this soundtrack is like drowning in honey and vanilla...breathing freely under water...being born again...a masterwork of sound and image~E

  • One of YouTube's VERY BEST and Most Beautiful films!!!!!!!! BRAVO!!!!!!!

  • cumpleanios feliz Jimi.

You are my friend since 1961.Muchos saludes-Conny

  • Feliz cumpleaños Hendrix, eres grande entre los grandes!!!

  • happy birthday today would be your 60th, jimi forever rock on!

  • Happy Birthday one more time Hendrix, its been quite a while since you passed, but I love ya brother.

I actually celebrated today like it was a holiday, because it truly is in my eyes, and should be for all electric musicians.

  • Beautiful music indeed... Music today is so far removed compared to this... bring on 2012.

  • @valehatar stop talking about this shit in this video.....

  • Y aun su musica sigue adelantada a esta epoca

  • Man I used to play this over and over when I first heard it . This is why I loved his artistry. Good video too.

  • man it is so hard to stop oneself from crying....

these images and the melody of this song, man.............

    jimi forever!

  • Awesome video, congrats ^^

  • Great!

    IMPRESSIVE

Jimi, one of the greatest guitarists had a lasting influence on the development of rock music.

At the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, Hendrix and his band, which has greatly increased his popularity.

JIMI burned at the end after the ninth song "Wild Thing" his guitar.

He himself, said: "The time I burned my guitar it was like a sacrifice. You sacrifice the things you love. I love my guitar"

THANKS FOR SHARING. HAVE A HAPPY TIME!

  • Jimi's mother was a beautiful, and sad lady. He always loved his mother and understood her sickness, even though she abandoned him, he always was sympathetic toward her, and never seemed to hold it against her. He looks just like her.

  • My Eternal God!!!!A Big,an Enormous,a Huge and a Very Loud THANKS to the Author of this Video!!!!!

  • 40 years later...we're still listening to you.

  • love this

  • this video makes me really sad... we miss you jimi!!!

  • such coloure and beauty

  • I think that this Piece Of Art shows exactly what has made Jimi (actually has forced him to become) one of the greatest (if not the greatest) guitar players and performers of all time-it was his inability to express all those emotions literally/verbally.

This is why I feel just like drifting when I hear this one.

    Simply stunning..

  • @1zulin , hey!...i assume you wanted to say ABILITY instead of "IN-ability"...!correct me if I am wrong, dearest

  • Great tune, great voice.

  • Clean Guitar Jamming should be for ever and ever.

Jimi Hendrix showed us what real music is.

    R.I.P. Jimi Hendrix

  • Jimi was and still is by far the greatest person who has ever walked on Earth.

All of his songs are so unique and different.

Jimi accomplished in a few years that no one could accomplish in their whole life...

World would be a better place if he would still be alive but lets be honest, he was too good to be on this planet for long.

Now he's in Heaven, jamming with Mitch, Noel, Billy, Buddy and everyone else.

We'll never forget you Jimi, you will always be in our souls and hearts.

  • 1 dislike?

Someone give me this mofos address haha

  • i am looking at my hendrix poster, i have had since about 14 am 45 now. still diggin jimi. this tune sounds so killer thru the jbl s and altec power amps.

  • @stratocaster1greg me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • This song is sad why did he hav to die so young?

  • this human is one of the greatest of all amongst humanity, i love this feeling when listening to his brain and heart through a guitar.

  • @Rmndnvrr

I absolutely agree. Thats the wonder of music and Hendrix expessed it beautifully.

  • this song makes me want to cry

  • This song gives me chils... and all we'll have is just the good memories, jimi will always be my hero!

  • This song is for Cassie! ~love Te' Ra1320 Cyberpunk ExTROdinAire : 07/04/10

  • Regardin my song "Driftin". I used 2 watch sailboats drifting by The Puget Sound". Don't be sad. This song is also inspirational. After I wrote this, I woke up in the mornin at 6 am, I thought of my precious mom & said to myself, I'm tired of waking up at 2 pm everyday for the last 3 days--I gotta use those old heartbreaks to some advantage & 2 fuel me to improve my life & those of others. I remember Bruce telling me 2 turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones.

  • This song is out there! I'll never become an astronaut, but this song has me floating in space. Thanks for posting, and thanx Jimi.

  • Outstanding job with the video, 6 Stars!

  • That's a great descrpition of the genius of this man.

  • This song just lifts my spirits to another existence. Its like his guitar is communicating with his soul and the entire universe when he plays

  • yo man you dont know how much this song means to me. i smoke up and close my eyes and i feel like im flyin like having an OBE than seeing jimi and just pure happyness, sometimes i tear up of joy. but man this song THANK YOU JIMI

  • thanks man

  • Even 40 yrs after his death----Jimi`s still KICKIN`ASS AND TAKING NAMES-just like when he was alive (some things never change) yeah the music nowadays really sucks!! I miss Jimi more and more as time goes on!

  • gotta love jimi

  • amazing video...i bought my first hendrix cd in 1995 last LP was voodoo soup which had this song in it. even if human go so far as to travel in space ships i bet there will be hendrix playin in many space ships....hendrix is forever

  • Thanks for the vid but what happened to the vocals? Karyokized?

  • My preferite song of Jimi !

  • love the video

  • Too good for words. I remember buying the vinyl when it was first released. A great set of songs.

  • Fantastic montage, tygbro, best little Hendrix film, ever. Song choice is rad, too.

  • or out of style-its timeless-music that truely stands the test of time

  • Oh, jimi you 're always the one in my heart. This song is so "magnifique", like a dream. I love U

  • love love love loe love love

  • Some people only know hendrix through the classics purple haze,Voodoo child and watchtower etc.Theres so much more to uncover, like this little underated gem. What a great video!!!

  • PERFECTION

  • @valehathar I wouldn't even define what Lady Gaga does as music; she's nothing but a clothing designer who occasionally makes noise in the studio. The thing about Hendrix is; he'll always be remembered as a highly innovative and influential blues/rock guitar player, whereas Lady Gaga will be remembered for some freaky dress she wore and not her music.

  • I want this song played at my funeral.

  • me too ken.

  • @KenSebring Me too :)

  • this is probably the most beautiful music he ever wrote (along with The Wind Cries Mary) and if only all the rock and roll bullshit and dope and everything else didn't kill him we can see what we, and he, missed

  • I'd actually use a wish (if I had three) To keep jimi alive immortally. So he could keep teaching humanity the harmony of earth and space. Although he is kept alive immortally. (His music)

  • jimi music is immortal-never to be forgotten

  • great song with great pics, i love dropping in and watching this every so often!

  • Such a beautiful song.God, I miss Jimi sometimes.

  • Love, what does it mean? 56 & never loved a woman, not really been in love, was married & cared for my wife. But I LOVE Hendrix. Why the hell did he have to die so young, his last night with a screwed up young woman? His Dad was a total jerk, wish someone had taken care of him.

  • He took care of him self..

with the amount of wisdom and spiritual power he had death meant nothing to him.

  • I think the sound track is out of phase because the vocal is gone and only reverb remains.

  • my fav jimi track, followed by Villanova junction, may this be love and Machine gun...and so many more...

the mark of a true genius, a virtuoso...

    RIP Jimi........

  • @nemrodchile Frustrating mess is more like it.

  • Happy Birthday Jimi ! Today would have been the 67th birthday of the greatest ever !

I hope you're in Heaven with a Foxy Lady by your side, while you watch the sun rise from the bottom of the sea, and you're kissing the sky !

  • @86lenny His murder was never investigated properly. He can not 'rest in peace'. There has been no 'justice'.

  • This song gives me goosebumps, love it!

  • thank you, tygbro...beautifully crafted video.

drifting was such a loving tribute to curits mayfield..jimi's affecting eloquence has always deeply resonanted

  • My favourite post-death song

  • cute

    hendrix

  • HELP ME Guys. PLEASE! I don't remember the name of that guitarist - singer who sang in the memorial of Jimi Hendrix. He obviously sang Drifting and i'm almost sure that there was Steve Vai playing too (and doing solo). Thank to everyone that will help me.

  • Well i know Chris Whitley did a version of Drifting, not sure tif thats the version you mean...

  • Thank you, but that's not the answer. I can't remember the name!!! :( And i've seen a concert too. ahah

  • the singer was corey glover from living colour and yes the guitarist was steve vai, saludos from argentina.

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss!!! That was the right answer. But the musician i was talking about was not Corey Glover!! Shit!! :D There was another guitarist-singer in that song, but hey, i smoked too much joint maybe.... I don't fuck remember the name of that musician and i've seen him in concert. I can't believe it.

  • Google was my friend... YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!! The name was.... trrrrrrrrrrr.... HIRAM BULLOCK :D

  • Come back to us Jimi...

  • Love when Jimi did songs like this, "May this be Love", "One Rainy Wish", "1983, a Merman I should Turn to Be", "Burning of the Midnight Lamp", ect.

Just a fantastic song from an underrated Hendrix album in my opinion.

  • goes down like jelly beans

  • This song goes down as smoothe as a Friendly's Chocalate Fribble...

  • I absolutely love the fact that Hendrix's music, his guitar virtuosity, the poetry in his songs, along with a lot of music from the 60s and 70s is just so timeless. Hendrix, the Beatles, Cream, all those great bands defined classic rock...truly inspirational. RIP Jimi Hendrix and the Experience.

  • Drifting on a sea of forgot ~ten tear drops
