  • AMFA was the best union and made the AMT's heart's beat with joy and pride because they moved us away from the low-life baggagge handlers who were not worthy of being in the same union as us. We have educations and stuff but NWA got rid of us beccause they refused to pay us what we were worth and the IAM and pilots did not support our strike 'cause they are all scabs and now it is hard to find a job that pays as much as we were getting but we no what we are worthand and pride and stuff.

  • I fucking love the dc-10. The only major reason airliners retired it, is damn economics. A Trijet is not economic compared to the Twinjets that Crapbus manufactures, and soon even the Queen of the Skies might even succumb to Economics due to its 4 engines. However, dont let this bullshit bring you down. The dc-10 will always be around to hunt for its favourite prey, Airbus. And Northwest, Ilove it so.

  • Great pictures! The DC10 was always my favorite to fly. I noticed in one of the posts that said below they are not retiring them just changing them over to Delta. I have a friend that works for NWA/Delta, they started retiring the DC10's several years back. They sold off about 10 to ATA now gone but went to Global Airlines (ATA parent company ??) Odd choice of music for such an american iconic airline/airliner. Doesn't do it justice. Sorry just my thoughts. No DC10's went to Delta

  • I love the MD-11. To bad Boeing screwed it over. The MD-11 will always be my #1 with the DC-10 At #2.

  • I'm not saying the DC-10 didn't have flaws, but a lot of its disasters were caused by human error in the maintenance department. MD-11 and the DC-10 will always be my favorites.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I spent a whole segment of my life frequently shuttling back and forth between the US and Europe and 9 times out of 10 it was on a NWA DC-10. I had my favorite seat and it eventually came to feel like my favorite old car. I like the new A300's but I REALLY miss the DC-10s.

  • I was lucky to fly twice on aDC-10-30 in 1987 &1992 but because these beautiful aircraft no longer are in use, I refuse to put up with BS at airports just to fly on foreign garbage like Airbuses.

  • The -30 was a much, much better airplane than the -40. The main difference was the GE engines, which were more powerful than the Pratt JT-9's. Those old -40 couldn't even make London/Detroit---the -30's did it with ease. And why did NWA want the -40's? They were obsessed with engine commonality with the 747.  Bad move---sometimes commonality is not the end-all in this business.

  • Beuatiful, my favorite airplane of all time is the L1049 Super Constellation, my second is the DC10, and third the Convair 990A Coronado !!!!

  • I work for a charter airline and we have several former NWA DC-10-30 planes..

    They may be a bit old but I really like the birds..I love to see them esp since they're ALMOST obsolete..lol..that engine is one of a kind..I can tell a DC-10 with my eyes closed..so distinct..

  • thats the biggest plane I ever flew on in my life, we went from San Fransisco to Honolulu, in Jan of 1999 on the DC10 10 operated by Sky Service U.S.A, on our way home, we struck a bird in number 2 rudder engine, so we turned around and laned back in Hawaii for a night, I'm glad we didn't loose anything elts or we would all be Swimming, it was our wild flight experience.

  • back when it was first launched in the early 70s, it did have an unknown design flaw, something having to do with the exits and cargo doors. 2 brand new DC-10s (operated by American Airlines and Turkish Airlines) each had doors explode off the plane during flight, the American plane landed safely, but the Turkish plane crashed and 330 were killed. McDonnell Douglas found the problem and fixed it, but it still had many incidents afterward, such as the disaster onboard United Airlines flight 232.

  • This is not true. The DC-10 is still used by many charter companies and by several airlines overseas. They have had several problems, most with poor design on hydraulic system. These have been resolved, most recent crashes have been caused by high wind shear such as the FedEx crash, not many aircraft like getting slammed like that.

  • My dad flew for Northwest for 30 + years... I remember when he was flying these.. I loved the DC-10 it was my favorite plane to be in... He retired as a 747-400 captain r.i.p. dad.. this video made me think of you~ WE MISS YOU~ Denny O'Connell Love, your son

  • they had been in service for over 30 years, and NWA (Now the new Delta) needed something new and fast like the A330

  • but what will replace the NWA fleet? Delta is going to continue an all Boeing fleet, and the majority of NWA's jets are built by Airbus.

  • While Delta will continue to buy only Boeing aircraft, the Airbus aircraft in the NWA fleet will be integrated and utilized in the Delta fleet until they are either retired or replaced.

  • wow, financially, that doesn't make sense at all. it will cost Delta millions more now having to pay for servicing from Boeing and Airbus. it would have been like trying to merge Continental with Air Canada.

  • Actually, there are very few airlines that do not operate a mixed air fleet (Southwest only utilizes Boeing 737s and I am sure there are a few more airlines). As far as maintenance and upkeep, those are done in-house by the airlines themselves. While Delta only has an all-Boeing fleet and maintenance facilities, NWA has facilities to handle both. Therefore, with the merger, it won't cost the merged Delta any more or less to maintain their aircraft.

  • @TWA021 Yes, thats true but you would be surprised just how efficient the DC-10'S and some other DC models are.. thats why many airlines still use them like KLM

  • Yea so did I Because American United Pushed the dc-10 hard because American and united were fighting over the Best Timeage to get to places so they flew the dc-10 and most of Americans and uniteds dc-10s had over 50,000 Flying hours on them Since Northwest herd about the crashes they didnt push the limits of the Dc-10
