Regarding obesity I've read two articles in "New Scientist". The first, a study of rats. Two groups. One infected with a virus that made them obese, checked for antibodies in the blood of obese people and found them. Have not read anything more about these findings.

Did you know Chlorine is poisonous? But when bonded with sodium it's perfectly safe. It's called NaCl, or table salt. The methanol you talk about in aspartame is not harmful, it's actually "methyl-ester" and not poisonous like methanol alone.
