the game looked pretty but omg it was EASY and then got really boring really fast...very str8 up gameplay point a to point b boss story. ughhhh so mad at my gamefly time wasted.

I tried a demo of this awhile ago. It looked like a cute game, but as you said it really dragged on. Not worth the money!

I like this review better than your one for Odin Sphere. As someone who played through the entirety of the game and gave up at the very end. (Literally at the last dungeon) I find that this review speaks the truth. It's a very average game through and through. It's a shame really because it had more potential. The battle system pretty much makes the game imo.

Japanese rpgs need more "teeth" and to add more mature content. I do understand "Teen" and "E for everyone" ratings ensure a bigger demographic but there is a guilty pleasure in games such as Fall Out 3 "because" they address more realistic issues.

Star Ocean 4 last hope seems to have a similar battle system as Sonata only the graphics are better. It is good J rpgs do not use quite as much "ATB" silliness as they used to. For awhile FF7 dictated how every game that came after it was made.

The combat system did look fun but I agree the characters seem a bit "verbose". Another small qualm I have is the "I'm going to fall over this cliff backwards!" scene. ALOT of Japanese games use it and having recently played DMC 4 Dante did the exact same thing.

I'm excited about the newest Star Ocean game but with me I'll either "love" a Japanese RPG or get bored with it after 3 hours and never pick it up again.

Guess I'm getting RE 5 to play it safe before Star ocean. Good review as always!

Good review. I'm getting the game in about 12 hours. I can handle long cut scenes probably because of MGS4...lol I'm just angry that current gen has little to no good RPG's out there. I have well over 100 games for my PS2 but only have 2 for my PS3. WTF Sony? I was starting to lose hope up until this game was released on the PS3. Yay for the new content too!!!

yeah with the graphics getting better and better, it's unfortunate that the actual content of the games seems to be getting worse in inverse proportion x.x

That may be so but this game is still fun. Viola is way too overpowered though. Im in chapter 4, save point in the pirate ship. The whole dream thing kinda ruins the game though, hope the endings are good.

The graphics look cute. But my biggest dilemma is always the storyline. RPG's lately are just not worth the time spent in them. *sigh*

action/adventure/fantasy i mean u dont really create ur own dude wich is okay but custamization in the game SUCKS! like lets say u buy an armor and u put it on but u dont actually SEE IT! all u see is ur old armor u started with!it...its annoying not to mention its turned based wich is BULLSHIT WHY WOULD U STAND THERE like a dick while u a dude attacks.. and the story is so damn linear ill give u 5 games that are TRUE rpgs=oblivion.fable and fable 2.mass effect.too human.:D

yeah I've heard they're doing that too. If they do, that game, the Final Fantasy XIII games, and the next console Kingdom Hearts game would be my reason for buying it.

unless they decide to make KH for the Wii too. =o

I tried kingdom hearts 1 but honestly it was too hokey, I couldn't get through it...I hear the second one is better but i'm working through a lot of other games first.

I only have a 360 because my friend was getting rid of his games and he gave it to me. I'm glad I got it, though it does crash now and then, like I said. I have a wii and it never crashes, but most of the games out for it are pretty boring to me (except zelda, of course)
