At last, someone who does it the same way as I do. I was getting worried. First shown how to splice by an old Portsmouth dockyard rigger. "Always start with the middle stand, nipper" lol
Very good demo. I eye splced two 3/4" lines for a chicago style mooring harness a couple of years ago and need to replace. This method was much easier. Made an almost perfect splice the first time and only took a few minutes.
I really like this method of splicing because it creates a much more uniform result, and I Definitely prefer it over the way you explained first which seems to be how the majority of people demonstrate it. Simple video but a great explanation. Many thanks for sharing :-)
Big thanks for posting this video, I just hit my climbing rope with a chainsaw, so had to cut off the damaged bit and put in a new eye, I really liked this method, a very neat and tidy way of splicing a eye, ive done six tucks as its a climbing rope.
thank you sooooo much for posting this!!! you saved my life! I have to teach a cadet class on Eye Splice and I had no idea how to do it!! thanks for helping me!!!
ok...its been a while i guess, can u make or point out vids that show in good detail an end splice, and how to splice 2 ropes(like rope in vid) together plz and ty
Many thanks!Your instructions are uncomplicated and clear. Are you able to give instructions for a right angle splice? From a book / manual perspective, this seems like something better left for a You-Tube presentation like this one.
Bought myself a piece of rope a couple of weeks ago and on the box there was a shabby description on how to make an eye splice. This video really cleared things up. "Over and under", my new mantra when eye splicing...
Thanks a lot. I was always having trouble getting the third strand through in the correct spot and this method helped me out. I see that you have also color coded your strands, which you don't mention but also helps.
Not really but the procedure is the same. Usually this is done by just weaving the strands inline. This is a bit different and, I think, a bit smoother.

Love this video. All the other videos I've seen are confusing and leave out small bits of information that make it very difficult to learn.

not bad but he twisted the working end before starting so the lay of the eye has a kink in it.

Try the following book if you have access to it, since this is my source of information;
Title: Pocket Guide To Knots & Splices
Author: Des Pawson
PRC Pub. Ltd. 2001 (reprinted 2003)
ISBN 1 85648 604 4, pp.218 - 219
I have seen other books mention the 'right - angle splice' , but as you have pointed out, the titles / names vary.
Again, thanks for the download and I hope the abovementioned information helps.

Have you any reference materials on the splice you mean? There are so many splices and at least twice as many names.
